DESCRIPTION

Most often known simply as a "Dzara Gauntlet" to those who have survived encounters with it, the Penitence is a large, full-arm gauntlet and pauldron, most often wielded in pairs by the Dzara's larger, stronger soldiers. Each is bulky, unwieldy, and non-user-friendly, but nonetheless adored by close-quarter fighters.

This is due in large part to the Penitence's multipurpose nature. While an armored metal glove can deliver a bone-cracking punch all on its own, the Penitence instead packs a variety of weapons into a relatively-compact space.

The first (and most commonly used) is a retractable, Keystone-enhanced blade nearly half a meter in length. When swung by the considerable strength needed to wield the Penitence to begin with, these can inflict significant bodily harm, and are also excellent for removing doors, barricades, or other obstructions.

The gauntlet's second feature is a sizzling electro-field, causing visible static discharges to dance up and down the user's forearms and between their fingertips. This adds an additional energy-based threat to the user's blows, and opens up a non-lethal stunning option: the user need only touch their foe to deliver a potentially-incapacitating shock. Likewise, this option can be used to overload electronic systems, sabotage doors or other access control consoles, or otherwise distort the functions of nearby machinery in clever hands.

Thirdly, and perhaps most unusually, the Penitence can extrude a metal shield from the back of the user's forearm, consisting of numerous folding metal strands that overlap to form a formidable bulwark. This barricade is usually made of molecule-bonded Helsteel, providing excellent protection from small arms, lightsabers, and moderate heavy weapons fire.

Of course, all of these systems render the Penitence exceptionally weighty, and as such, it is usually only seen used by particularly strong (or bloodthirsty) soldiers.
