Timeline: Prior to the events of The First Stand...
The nights had been long.
Abel was a man who kept his word. He had learned to value such during those harsh days on Nar Shaddaa. When a man had nothing, the only thing of true value was his word. Or, at the very least, that is how the saying went. And when Abel had nothing, he had made that into something by staying true to his promises. In the present day, that manifested itself as a number of responsbilities - all of whom competed against one another on the daily. Yet, no matter how daunting the plate, the Knight did his damndest to attend to it all.
For months now, he had been juggling the demands of lordship and of being an Obsidian Knight. With a fresh monarch being crowned on Naboo, House Denko demanded that their liege be present as often as possible. There were so many galas and other social soirees that needed his attention. Why? Because attendance meant proximity. And proximity meant getting in the good graces of the monarch. Abel had no desire to "kiss ass" his way into being a household name. He would much rather the merit of his family's product - wine - speak for itself. Yet, he had vowed to listen to their advice. He was a man of his word.
Conversely, the concerns of the nation were monumental. As an Obsidian Knight, Abel had to travel all over the Southern Systems, attending to threats great and small. At times, that meant aiding in the containment of an artifact run amuck. At others, it was as simple as enforcing local law. His duties as a Knight demanded that he was anywhere but Naboo. And his duties as Lord meant that he needed to stay his ass home. Despite this, he managed by keeping a dizzying schedule. All of this to stay true to his word.
But, most recently, he had placed one vow a little higher than others. That of mentor and guide. Abel was fortunate enough to find two souls who were willing to accept his tutelage. Two souls who were as different as fire and ice. Yet, they were similar in that Abel would take a blaster bolt for either. The first was
Fauvel Astier
- a Starweird of noble origins. The second was
Luna Evanstance
- an urchin of the streets just like he. Though vastly different, he had vowed to them both to nurture their skills and to protect them. Because of this, Abel had tarried home at Skywind Estate. The latter of his charges, Luna, would tarry there with him on a more consistent basis. Fauvel, conversely, would stay for brief spans at a time.
He had vowed that they could count on him. And he fully intended on keeping his word.
At the present day, Abel awoke feeling as unrested as usual. His hours of rest were few and far between - due to burning the midnight oil to ensure his duties were attended to. Nonetheless, when he descended to the kitchens, he would find that he was not the first to awaken. He was greeted by the smell of breakfast - but it wasn't the hands of attendants or droids that were responsible. With eyebrows raised, Abel turned the corner, only to find the pair giggling whilst flipping pancakes. "Okay, clearly, I'm hallucinating." he joked, before being enthusiastically told to sit down at the table. With hands raised in defeat, the Knight slumped into his seat.
Sometimes, keeping one's word resulted in the best blessings.
