SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Speeder-Grade Repulsorlift Conversion: The original low-altitude repulsorlift hardware has been replaced with compact components adapted from conventional speeder technology, allowing the JR Custom to operate far above the normal flight ceiling of a standard skimboard.
  • Racing Repulsor Coils: Additional repulsor coils reinforce the primary lift system, supporting sustained steep and vertical climbs.
  • Integrated Turbothrusters: Compact turbothrusters are recessed into the rear of the board, providing substantially greater acceleration without sacrificing its narrow profile.
  • Rear-Foot Controls: Following the control arrangement of a conventional skimboard, propulsion and lift are controlled through the rider's rear foot. The JR Custom replaces the original controls with pressure-sensitive sections built flush into the riding surface.
  • Stick-Strips: Two reinforced adhesive strips secure the rider's footwear during aggressive manoeuvres while retaining the traditional skimboard method of attachment.
  • Kinetic Recovery Assembly: A modified kinetic capacitor recovers part of the momentum involved in aggressive manoeuvres, particularly high-speed dives followed by sudden deceleration or redirection.
  • Boost Capacitor: Recovered energy is conditioned through a power converter and temporarily stored within a capacitor. Power couplings can then route the stored charge into the lift or propulsion systems for a short boost.
  • High-Output Power System: Uprated power cells, converters and couplings distribute power between the board's lift, propulsion and recovery systems.
  • Heat Management: Compact heat sinks manage the increased thermal output produced by the modified systems.
  • Recessed Cargo Compartments: Several small storage spaces are built flush into the body of the board. These are intended for compact parcels, tools, personal equipment and other small loads without interfering with the riding surface.
  • Anti-Collision Delete: The original skimboard's automatic collision-avoidance system has been deliberately removed after repeatedly interfering with close racing lines, deliberate dives toward structures and other late-input manoeuvres.
  • Custom Finish: Both JR Customs retain a silver metallic body broken by angular yellow-gold markings matching Jace's usual visual styling.

STRENGTHS
  • Extreme Speed: Extremely low mass, uprated propulsion and aggressive power delivery give the JR Custom exceptional acceleration and top-end performance for a vehicle of its size.
  • Extreme Maneuverability: Its size, weight and direct control arrangement allow a skilled rider to perform abrupt turns, rolls, dives and altitude changes that would be impractical for larger repulsorcraft.
  • Vertical Mobility: Upgraded repulsorlifts and racing coils allow the JR Custom to climb well beyond the normal operating height of a skimboard, including sustained movement up building faces and through vertical urban spaces.
  • Dive to Boost: A rider can deliberately trade altitude for speed, enter a hard dive and recover part of the resulting momentum during the pull-out. The stored charge can then be immediately used for a boosted climb or burst of acceleration.
  • Small Profile: The JR Custom can exploit alleys, maintenance gaps, traffic lanes and other routes unavailable to conventional speeders.
  • Courier Utility: Its recessed compartments provide useful storage for compact deliveries and equipment without compromising its riding surface or external profile.

WEAKNESSES
  • No Anti-Collision System: The JR Custom will not automatically avoid obstacles, cut thrust or correct a dangerous approach. Buildings, vehicles, terrain and other hazards must be avoided entirely through rider input.
  • Exposed Rider: The board itself possesses limited protection around its internal systems, but provides no cockpit, armour enclosure or meaningful shielding to the rider.
  • Severe Passenger Overload: The JR Custom is designed and balanced around a single rider. Carrying another person places disproportionate strain on the repulsorlifts, propulsion and power systems. Acceleration, maneuverability, vertical climb rate and maximum operating altitude all fall sharply. A second person can be carried in an emergency, but further passengers produce increasingly severe diminishing returns and may reduce the board to slow, unstable low-altitude movement or prevent sustained flight altogether. Normal equipment and cargo carried by a single rider remain within intended operating parameters.
  • Skill Dependent: Its extreme performance assumes a rider capable of controlling a highly responsive board at very high speed. Many of its most effective manoeuvres leave little margin for error.
  • Momentum Required: The kinetic recovery system cannot generate a useful boost by itself. A meaningful charge requires substantial existing speed and a sufficiently aggressive manoeuvre.
  • No Perpetual Boost: Only a portion of the energy involved in a manoeuvre can be recovered. Drag, heat, propulsion demand and conversion losses prevent indefinite boost cycling.

DESCRIPTION
BUILD_RECORD//02 UNITS // JR-01 + JR-02 // MEKUUN FACTORY CONFIGURATION: OBSOLETE
The Skimboard JR Custom is a heavily customised variant of a recreational skimboard originally manufactured by Mekuun Corporation's Leisure and Recreation division. The "JR Custom" designation, short for "Jace-Racer", was given to the modified design by OutlawTech rather than Mekuun. Two matching boards were produced for Jace, one as his regular board and the other as a spare that he shares with Rorie.

Both began as conventional recreational skimboards, though little of the original performance hardware remains untouched. Their basic operation is still recognisably that of a skimboard. The rider stands directly on the narrow repulsorcraft, secured by stick-strips, and controls it primarily through shifts in balance and pressure from the rear foot.

The original low-altitude repulsorlift system was replaced with compact speeder-derived hardware and supplemented by racing repulsor coils. This gives the JR Custom enough lift to operate well above a normal skimboard's flight ceiling and climb directly through the vertical spaces of a city. Recessed rear turbothrusters provide the extra forward acceleration, supported by uprated power cells, converters and couplings.

A kinetic recovery assembly built around kinetic-capacitor technology is the board's most unusual modification. During aggressive manoeuvres, particularly a high-speed dive followed by a hard pull-out or sudden redirection, the system can recover some of the momentum involved and store the resulting energy for a short time. That charge can then be fed back into the repulsorlifts or propulsion system for a brief boost.

It works best when the rider deliberately trades altitude for speed. A dive down the side of a building can feed into a hard pull-out and boosted climb, making the surrounding terrain part of how the board builds and spends momentum. The recovery process is deliberately inefficient. It cannot create energy independently, and heat, drag and conversion losses mean every cycle returns less than was put into it.

The standard anti-collision system did not survive the conversion. Automatic corrections kept interfering with close racing lines, deliberate approaches toward structures and manoeuvres that relied on extremely late rider input, so the system was eventually removed entirely. The JR Custom will follow its rider's commands even when those commands point it directly at a wall.

The board still retains some practical utility despite its racing emphasis. Flush storage compartments provide room for small parcels, equipment and personal items without obstructing the riding surface, making it useful for courier work as well as recreation and racing. Its intended load is a single rider with their normal carried equipment.

It can carry another person when necessary, but performance falls off quickly under the extra weight. Additional riders place much greater demand on the repulsorlifts and propulsion system, reducing speed, control and vertical performance.

In practice, the JR Custom is built for the kind of terrain Jace already favours: dense urban spaces where roads are optional and altitude can become part of the route. It is also unforgiving. The rider remains exposed, there is no collision safeguard to step in, and mistakes tend to happen at speeds that leave very little time to recover.
