  • PERSONALITY

Jacero tends to be charming, irreverent and remarkably difficult to intimidate. He enjoys people, conversation and attention, and rarely sees much reason to behave more seriously than a situation requires. A quick smile and an easier answer generally come before hostility, while flirting, teasing and casual dishonesty are all tools he employs with very little distinction between professional usefulness and genuine amusement.

Danger produces a somewhat different side of him.

Jace is an extreme sensation-seeker who has spent years deliberately testing both his physical limits and his luck. Heights, speed and narrow margins of error hold an attraction that ordinary entertainment rarely manages to reproduce. He does not actively want to be injured or killed, and usually possesses a very accurate understanding of what his body can accomplish. The difficulty is that knowing his limits has encouraged him to operate increasingly close to them.

When a situation genuinely becomes dangerous, much of his casual manner disappears. His attention sharpens, his movements become deliberate, and circumstances that leave others panicked often seem to settle him. Jace is frequently at his best after a plan has already failed.

Unfortunately, success has reinforced some poor habits. He has a tendency to assume there will always be another route, another handhold, another vehicle or another few seconds available to him. Straightforward solutions can feel disappointingly dull, and boredom remains one of the more reliable ways to persuade him into doing something unwise.

Independence is similarly important to him. Jace enjoys companionship and can become genuinely loyal to people he likes, but reacts poorly to attempts to control him. Permanent employment, criminal hierarchy and heavily structured obligations hold little appeal. He would rather accept a dangerous contract from someone he barely knows than spend the next five years safely behind the same desk.

    APPEARANCE
    jace-fullbody.png

Jace is a young Kage male with pale yellow-grey skin, vivid green eyes and ivory-white hair. His eyes are particularly striking, becoming almost luminous under certain lighting conditions and giving him a distinctly Kage appearance even among other Near-Humans.

His hair is worn medium-long in smooth, feathered layers that remain close to the shape of his head rather than creating excessive volume. The style is deliberately loose enough to move naturally while remaining practical during physical activity.

At 6'0" and approximately 85 kilograms, Jace has a lean but strongly developed athletic build. His shoulders, arms and back carry the strength expected of someone who regularly climbs using his own body weight, while his overall physique remains geared toward acceleration, balance and flexibility rather than bulk.

His clothing follows similar priorities. Jace favours fitted trousers, lightweight boots with strong grip, close-cut shirts and short jackets that will not interfere with movement. Gloves, light bracers, utility straps and a narrow belt carry whatever small tools and equipment a particular job requires. Armour is generally avoided unless circumstances demand it.

  • STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

    ▲ ATHLETICISM
Kage physiology gives Jace exceptional natural athleticism and extremely fast reflexes.

    ▲ URBAN MOVEMENT
Highly accomplished climber and freerunner, particularly comfortable navigating dense urban environments.

    ▲ PRESSURE
Functions exceptionally well under immediate pressure, often becoming calmer and more focused as situations deteriorate.

    ▲ NUMBERS
Strong numeracy and financial literacy inherited from his upbringing, with a practical understanding of corporate accounts, freight records, manifests and similar paperwork.

    ─ GENERALIST
Competent with a compact blaster, basic security systems and vehicles, though he considers physical access and movement his primary speciality.

    ─ INDEPENDENT
Independent by preference, working across the underworld rather than maintaining permanent allegiance to any one criminal organisation.

    ▼ THRILLSEEKER
Extreme sensation-seeker with an increasingly high tolerance for danger.

    ▼ THE HARD WAY
Prone to choosing the more difficult or dangerous approach when a safer solution feels uninteresting.

    ▼ OVERCONFIDENCE
Considerable confidence in his own ability to escape trouble can become outright overconfidence.

    ▼ RESTLESS
Becomes restless quickly when confined by routine, hierarchy or prolonged inactivity.

    ▼ COLLATERAL RISK
His appetite for risk has not always remained limited to himself, a lesson that contributed heavily to his estrangement from his family.

  • DENON-BORN

Jacero Savi was born on Denon to Kage parents who had left Quarzite before his birth.

The Savis had little interest in reproducing the instability associated with their homeworld. On Denon they instead built a quiet and respectable life within the immense commercial machinery of the ecumenopolis. Both eventually found work in corporate freight accounting and audit, dealing with manifests, shipping costs, inventory discrepancies and the constant movement of goods through Denon's transit networks.

Their son was expected to follow them.

For a time, there was little reason to believe he would not. Jacero proved perfectly capable with numbers and absorbed far more of the family trade than his later choices might suggest. He understood accounts, reconciled freight records and learned how enormous companies tracked what they owned and where it was supposed to be.

He simply found almost everything surrounding that knowledge unbearably dull.

    THE NIGHT SHIFT

As a teenager, Jacero began exploring the service routes, maintenance passages and elevated infrastructure surrounding the districts where he lived. Exploration became climbing. Climbing became freerunning, and freerunning eventually led him toward the informal races and nighttime competitions taking place across parts of Denon's urban sprawl.

    The races rarely followed streets.

Participants were given a destination and expected to reach it however they could. Rooftops, transit stations, maintenance tunnels, ventilation systems and active infrastructure became part of the course. Jacero's natural Kage reflexes and athleticism made him unusually well suited to the activity, while the danger itself proved considerably more addictive than winning.

Somewhere within that scene, Jacero increasingly became Jace.

The name followed him when racing began to turn into paid courier work. A young runner capable of crossing several city blocks without using public routes had obvious value to people moving things they preferred authorities not to notice.

At first the jobs were small. Packages, contraband and messages moved between local contacts for quick credits.

Then the destinations became harder to reach.

    The security became better.

    The payment increased.

Before long Jace was being paid not merely to move through Denon, but to enter places he was never supposed to reach in the first place.

    FALLOUT

His parents became increasingly aware that their son's nighttime activities involved more than harmless racing. Arguments followed, accompanied by promises from Jacero that tended to remain true only until the next sufficiently interesting opportunity appeared.

The eventual break came when one of his jobs drew upon information he had learned through the family business. The theft itself succeeded, but the resulting investigation passed close enough to his parents and their professional lives that Jace could no longer pretend he was only risking himself.

Whatever remained of their tolerance ended shortly afterward.

    Jacero left home.

His growing reputation continued without them.

    THE UNDERWORLD

The first indication that he had moved beyond Denon's petty criminal scene came when an intermediary approached him with work originating from Nebula, then head of Crimson Dawn.

Jace never dealt with the syndicate leader as though he were an ordinary employer. The significance was simply that someone operating at that level had heard his name and considered him useful enough to employ through others.

    Jace understood what that meant.

He had entered the real underworld.

Rather than formally attaching himself to Crimson Dawn or another organisation, he used the reputation earned from those contracts to spread outward. Syndicates, smugglers, information brokers, thieves and private clients all became potential employers.

    The arrangement suited him.

Jace now works primarily as an independent runner, courier and infiltrator, accepting contracts according to their payment, difficulty and, sometimes unfortunately, how interesting they sound. He is particularly useful when something needs to be moved, reached, stolen or escaped from without relying upon conventional access.

    The credits matter.

    The challenge usually matters more.

  • FAMILY
    THE SAVI FAMILY

Jacero's parents emigrated from Quarzite before his birth and established themselves as respectable professionals on Denon. Their relationship with their son deteriorated as his criminal activities became increasingly serious, eventually resulting in a significant falling-out. The present state of that relationship is complicated.

    CONTACTS

    NEBULA
    Former head of Crimson Dawn.

Jace's connection to Nebula was primarily through intermediaries and syndicate operatives rather than direct employment. Receiving work originating from Nebula's organisation marked one of the earliest points at which Jace realised his reputation had begun extending into the wider galactic underworld.
