Sith Lords and slugs

"I promise you, Kiber, you will get lightsaber training after this mission is over"

The Rogue One Sith ground forces retreated in all directions after the debacle on Castameer, their former capital. Some of their armies are headed towards Allance space, not suspecting that the First Order is also looking for them, while other forces are headed towards Mandalorian space as well as Iron Empire space. Kiber has had a chance at using witchcraft on Gala while he himself was Cathul was to take part in this operation. Sure Cathul was more of a scholar than a warrior, and she had little experience of combat, Katarr and Er'kit, but she volunteered for it because she had to do something. And also, hopefully, redeem herself to the eyes of her fellow vode on Azure: the main complaint filed towards her was that she was seemingly too much of a pacifist. Plus, if the rumor mill for the successor to Ra Vizsla for Mand'alor was correct, she had to at least have some measure of skill at something other than witchcraft or lightsaber combat. Something accessible to a NFU. Like slugthrowers. Cathul's ship was in orbit over Agamar, briefing the one last time before the vode arrive.

"Intelligence reports that the Rogue One Sith had made landfall on Agamar, but also that leftover battle droids from the Clone Wars have engaged them"

"Drat! They haven't heeded the warnings! We seem to be willing to launch an invasion of First Order space without covering our backs! Our task is to intercept the Rogue One Sith on Agamar before they cause any further damage!"

"The enemy is expected to fight for the control of the centrisphere, where the droids are holed up"

"For now droid forces are to be regarded as friendlies. We will break the encirclement: the enemy wears stormtrooper white"

Kiber looked down at the planet and imagined the pitched battles being fought between the One Sith and the battle droids. "Do we have any idea on the numbers of Sith that we might be facing?" he asked Cathul, as he began to visualize his attacks.

He was equipped this time with his sniper rifle, the double vibro-blade alongside extra ammuntion and medical packs; he was always taught to be prepared for anything.

"I think it is best to use the sniper rifle from long range and then switch to magic for when the enemy is not quite within vibroblade range but at sniper rifle point-blank range. As for One Sith numbers, only a few were actual Sith, with most of them being stormtroopers and perhaps an AT-ST or two. Maybe one AT-AT but if there is one, the enemy CO is probably holed up in there. I have mustered what forces I could from Clan Lok to engage the Rogue One Sith so rest assured that we didn't take a mission that we couldn't win"

Sniper rifle point-blank range was about 5-10 meters or so. Cathul's magical range was about 30 meters, so she would apply a similar plan. Slugthrowers for the long range (although not suppressive in the way a machinegun nest would be) and magic for close-quarters. From what she knew from experience, a 5.56x45 would be burning if it didn't completely melt when passing through a lightsaber, whereas a 7.62x54 would assuredly not melt completely. That's why she wanted the largest caliber possible that could be shoulder-fired, knowing that what Jessica did on Kashyyyk amounted to shoulder-firing a weapon chambered for 12.7x108s, recoil-wise. A 7.62x54 could be slowed down by half and as much as two-thirds if fired from long-range, a 12.7x108 would slow down by about a quarter to a third depending on the angle. Plunging fire as typical from long-range would be less and less effective. Now was the time to show what Cathul got in store, after she had to call off the Rendili raid for some reason.

"The plan is for us to hold defensive positions in an abandoned homestead: that bunch of Sith is too busy engaging the Confederate holdouts for the time being. Once they have split up to engage us, then the forces on our flanks will break the enemy line in two"
