DESCRIPTION
Like many Silk vessels both historical and modern, the Khammu was created by Mon Calamari-led design teams and retains a Mon Cal aesthetic. It also exemplifies a classic Mon Cal design priority: high durability, particularly using shields. The redundant, recessed shield generators are independent particle and ray systems, ensuring the ship stays protected from collision and boarding regardless of energy weapons fire. The doonium-clad hull underneath adds bulk but is a powerful safeguard.
Durability is essential to the Khammu's mission profile: driving a cargo through any and all interference. To that end, the ship boasts overpowered engines, multiple tractor shrouds, extensive cap drain networks, and enough short-range defensive weapons to erase interceptor squadrons or warhead swarms. Ships of this class have distinguished themselves in evacuation runs and refugee flights, disgraced themselves running spice, slaves, and guns, and excellet at every kind of high-stakes cargo run in between.
Despite only limited production, the Khammu isn't an unusual sight along the trade routes and back roads of the galactic south and southwest. The Khammu is enough of a fuel hog that many captains run the engines at 50% capacity unless necessary, so canny pirates and customs officers have learned to be ready for a sudden burst of speed — at least, as ready as they can be.
