Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: Koensayr
Model: Sigma-Class Shuttle
Affiliation: Atlas Academy Graduates & Teachers
Modularity: Minor
Production: Minor
Material: Turadium Framing with Matrix Armor Plating
Description: The Sigma follows in the same vein as its Imperial Sienar/Cygnus predecessors the Lambda, Theta, Sentinel, and Delta class ships with its folding wings and sturdy design. Unlike them, the shuttle uses six folding wings and one stable upright wing as s-foils for maximum stability and room for radiator panels, sensors and shield projectors, increasing the room they have to work with as well as freeing interior space. Deceptively small looking due to it's narrow body and spindly arms, the Sigma is just eight meters shorter than the Sentinel lander though much of its space is given over to living space rather than one large hold.

Wanting to impart a long-lasting gift to the students that had earned her respect, Domino prioritized speed and robustness when she ordered the ship designed by her Koensayr people and pushed for them to achieve greater than the normal rating of 1 on the hyperdrive while lining the hull with the best armor they could create. So while they were unable to push past an already fast .9 drive without running into massive cost issues, the shuttle's matrix armor usually allows it to survive what little it cant outrun. And when forced into a fight the pilot can defend themselves with the Sigma's four heavy lasers while the navigator/co-pilot can take control of the normally computer controlled rear turret. The lower rear vanes are almost entirely given to the heat sinks that cool the Sigma's twin engine banks while the tips and forward edges were reserved for the longer ranged sensors (the rest being installed under the cockpit as in the Sentinel). The forward s-foils' hold the primary deflector shield generators and curve for a tighter shielding concentration around the ship while its sinks draw the heat away from the lasers during sustained firing. Unfortunately like the Lambda, it can be rather difficult to get those guns on target against attacking fighters, hence the inclusion of a rear turret to mitigate the danger.

Operating with a two floor lay-out, the Sigma divides the comfortable living spaces of the second from the more utilitarian first which holds the loading ramp and cargo bay. The cockpit can be accessed from either just as easily with the piloting stations sitting just behind the wrap around band in the glasteel.
