DESCRIPTION
The Sigma ATR-15 Assault Transport is the latest answer to the age old question 'how to get Stormtroopers to the target.' Designed after a legacy platform that was infamous back in the days of the old Empire for its durability and danger to attacking craft, the ATR-15 is both a trans-atmospheric dropship and boarding assault shuttle in one small, aggressive package.

Standard crew complement is 10, with a piloting team of three, four gunners, and an engineering/propulsion team of three. Around 15 personnel can easily be accommodated, the additional crew operating in the wide command bridge and acting as tactical support for embarked troops. The Command and Control suite present is small but fairly robust, links into the IFC-DEN present on nearly all First Order vessels and craft, and is fully capable of issuing orders and monitoring the status of a full platoon.

The Transport is designed to ferry a fully equipped platoon of 40 troops to whatever destination. Besides having room to conduct routine maintenance on armor and weapons, it also supports 16 individually sealed EVA bays, where a fully suited spacetrooper can arm and launch, acting as support or defense for the transport, or moving forward and engaging a vessel targeted for boarding. Large scale embarkation/debarkation is supported by wide bay doors, which also act as a sealed boarding ramp (an enclosed tube is attached to the target vessel as necessary) for such operations. One can, in a pinch, empty out the troops and store a few packed speeders or light walkers in the vessel, but it's not strictly designed for such a thing.

Offensively the ship is very heavily armed, taking after its ancestor, with four light turbolasers on high-agility gimballed mounts. The weapons take the quality over quantity approach to defense, and posses a comparatively low rate of fire but are very capable of targeting most strike craft. The ATR-15 also possess a set of four missile tubes, typically outfitted per mission requirements, and rounds everything off with a pair of twin-linked Ion Cannons, specifically designed to punch a hole in shields and allow for close boarding.

Neither a particularly fast nor maneuverable craft, the Sigma-class relies on it's armament and extremely durable defensive armor and shielding for survival on hazardous missions. Standard procedure for boarding is to take the shortest possible route to the target, trusting in shielding and weapons, then punching a hole in the enemy shields with a coordinated volley of ion torpedoes and ion cannon blasts, before launching spacetroopers to clear boarding zone and cut into the hull.

While not generally designed for use in independent operations the ATR-15 does have a rudimentary hyperdrive, spartan crew living facilities, and supplies onboard for over a month, and it can act on its own. It also features a somewhat customization interior, and designs exist to gut the interior, strip out some of the weapons for additional transceivers and antennas, and use it as a mobile command center. This would be a niche, non-standard role at best.
