DESCRIPTION
For centuries, Padawans of the Conclave have created masks such as these as part of their own individual armor, and almost ubiquitously, they have continued the tradition of modeling them after the antiox breath mask worn by the Conclave's Kel Dor Founder, Jo Paan. Of course, this is merely an aesthetic choice, as the masks do not usually serve quite the same purposes, and many other technologies have been included into them since.
To begin with, the masks are basically facemasks, which can be quickly donned and doffed, rather than full-head helmets. To accomplish this, specially-made over-the-ear devices are worn, which appear similar to 'ear implants' used for hearing-impaired individuals throughout the galaxy, and thus serving to be largely unobtrusive and inconspicuous to casual observers when the mask is not in use. When the masks are donned, they 'click' into these devices, holding them securely on their faces, ensuring a careful and sustained 'seal'.
The breath mask, as already mentioned, is based on the aesthetics of those used by members of the Kel Dor species, but their actual systems are more akin to the A99 Aquata Rebreathers used by the Jedi. Capable of providing two hours of enclosed breathable air when submerged, in the vacuum of space, or in other environments when normal breathing was not possible, they helped to ensure their wearers' survivability. Further, the masks also filtered out toxins, biological pathogens, noxious fumes and odors, smoke, toxic and caustic gases, dust and debris particles, and other hazardous airborne threats, meaning the wearer could use them in a variety of hostile or dangerous environments without having to default to the stored rebreather supply.
A voxscrambler was introduced, capable of disguising the wearer's species, age, and even sex, and using universal personal translator technology, allowed them to both speak and comprehend a large number of languages with ease. For example, the wearer speaks in Galactic Basic into the vocalizer, which the person(s) they're speaking to cannot hear, but instead they hear their own language emitted from the device. Likewise, when they reply, the audio sensors translate their words into Galactic Basic, allowing the wearer to clearly understand them.
The Hush-98 comlinks, used by many Jedi, were copied into the design. These provided a secure, encrypted communication capability with a 100-kilometer range, capable of reaching orbiting ships, variable frequencies, a quantum-encoded locator, and distortion field emitter, capable of guarding against eavesdropping and surveillance technologies and allowing for privacy when in use, and were capable of storing and transmitting complex data. In time, micronized Holonet transceivers were added as well.
The over-the-ear mounts provided a measure of hearing protection and enhancement also. Coming in the form of audio amplifiers and dampeners, these filtered out 'white noise' and allowed wearers enhanced hearing, using parabolic microphones and clarifying systems to discern even whispered conversations or minute sounds at distances of up to 200 meters.
Further, when used in tandem with her body glove, the two elements provide her with a very suitable survival – and even emergency EVA – suit, should she find herself amidst a hostile environment. The mask can filter toxins, airborne pathogens, gases, smoke, particulates, and much more, allowing her to breathe freely in most environs and conditions, and when there is simply no breathable atmosphere surrounding her, the mask's rebreather offers up to two standard hours of breathable air before it requires replenishment. Once either exposed again to a breathable atmosphere or resupplied using an external cannister of reserve air, the mask can be replenished in a minute or so, renewing the reserve supply contained within it. This enables it to serve as a mask for excursions underwater, in breathless atmospheres, and even in the vacuum of space!
The mask itself is impressively durable, despite the intricate myriad of components and systems contained within it. With a betaplast housing, impregnated with nykkalt and agrinium, it offers an impressive resilience against energy weapons, kinetic damage, radiation, and yes, electronic detection. The use of ultrachrome to construct its various systems and components guarded against corrosion and damage alike. The ballistic-grade glasteel guards the eyes from damage, while a strong protective coating prevents scratching or breaking. Concussive absorbing material forms a gel-like fit, conforming to the contours of her face to form a tight, sure seal and snug fit that makes it able to be worn comfortably for long periods and without obstructing or hindering her movements, and further protects her in the event of a kinetic strike to her face. Siae built this mask to last, and to endure in any of a hundred environments, and it has never failed her. Then again, Siae has always made a practice not to test this resilience too often. Going about applying for a direct blaster shot or lightsaber strike to one's face is generally considered a poor tactic to adopt.
The final benefits of Siae's unique mask lie within the stealthiness of it. Few in the galaxy know her, know the Conclave and their basic designs of such things, or have any knowledge of the particulars of hers. Thus, the anonymity of the mask, enhanced by its abilities to disguise her voice, hide her face, even to provide an untrue retinal scan, is a potent facet. The nykkalt and blue witch technology, working in tandem, help to conceal her from electronic detection or identification, while the voxscrambler enables her to disguise her voice, her language and dialect, her age, sex, or species. With several pre-programmed profiles and the ability – by directly scanning the eyes of another – to make a copied retinal profile, the retinal disguiser allows Siae to use her mask to provide false retinal identifications, bypassing or confusing scanners or security systems more easily.

STRENGTHS
- What's Going On?: Between the mask's ability to link to the holonet and its integrated augmented reality HUD, and its myriad of sensors, Siae can maintain a full-spectrum situational awareness and access a wide variety of information quickly and consumably while donning her mask. Enhancing not only her on-demand information, but tracking and acquiring targets, analyzing and assessing information perceived, and providing her with ample real-time awareness of her surroundings and potential threats lurking around her, the mask provides a number of advantages when worn.
- What's That You Say?: The aural amplifiers, sonic dampeners (filtering out 'white noise'), integrated parabolic microphones, and real-time translation technologies allow Siae to eavesdrop on nearby conversations, to decipher different languages, and even to communicate with others in their own native tongues, and to detect otherwise inaudible noises.
- Who Are You?: Siae's mask, while not preventing visual detection or recognition – if someone should know her specific mask or at least enough to recognize the Conclave's general designs for their masks – but makes electronic detection or recording of her face and head almost impossible. The distortion field emitter further conceals conversations and ensures against eavesdroppers. The voxscrambler can conceal her age, sex, species, and alter her voice at will, even recreating the voice of another, just as the retinal disguise system allows her to use pre-programmed retinal profiles (or, those quickly copied by a direct scan) to fool security systems and sensors.
- No Offense: The mask has no offensive capabilities, and its many integrated, embedded systems only provide real-time information, communication, and defensive benefits. Used alone, it leaves Siae well-informed and protects her face and ears from a variety of potential threats, but she is unable to gain any offensive advantage from it beyond these.
- Did I Mention It's Custom?: Siae's mask was made for her and by her, meaning that any damages will require her to properly fix them, as most other techs won't have the same familiarity with the complex intricacies of its design to come close to restoring it, and while it fits her like a glove, formed to accommodate the contours of her face and head, it would be ill-fitting and much less functional, if functional at all, if used by another.
- Not Subtle: The combination of the aesthetics of a Kel Dor-style mask with the integrated goggles above make this mask anything but 'non-descript' or 'subtle'. Anyone who knows the customized mask can be reasonably sure who is behind it, and it isn't something Siae can hide easily.
