COMBAT INFORMATION
  • Availability: Unique.
  • Deployment: Minor.
Strengths & Weaknesses:

+ Charge! - There is nothing quite like the striking power of several hundred heavy bes'uliik thundering across open ground, firing railguns at you. Or the shock of the the claws, shock-rods and the riders lances when they hit.
+ Mounted (Air) Cav - Their lighter than normal Bes'uliik and scout-config beskar'gam give them exceptional tactical and strategic mobility.

+ Extreme Firepower - The Shrike Hawks carry about as much firepower as you can cram onto a conventional bes'uliik and remain cost-effective.

- Low Endurance - Much like any conventional cavalry force, they rely on mobility - pin this group down in one place, or ask it to defend a point and it will suffer badly.
- Heavy Burden - Dismounted, the unit can suffer from mobility issues - the weight of their gear means they either drop gear, or don't move fast/far at all.
- Poor Anti-Air - A bes'uliik is not an aircraft - it offers mobility, but between it's lack of a turning circle and their standard armament, they cannot defend themselves from airpower.
- Only Human - For all their technological excellence and training, under the armour and behind the guns are non-force sensitive, unenhanced humans.

Description:

Formed from the toughest, strongest and without doubt the craziest of the Clan, along with the Raven Owls the Shrike Owls form one of the two most prestigious units of Clan Kryze mercenaries. While all of Clan Kryze operates in a fashion somewhere between the 21st Century Air Cavalry and the Vietnam War era Air Cavalry - acting as both mounted and unmounted troops, with high tactical and stragetic mobility, the capability of rapidly taking a point or delivering extreme firepower with precision, the Shrike Owls form the wedge of the spear, right behind the Stryx. They are also capable of operating in relatively high mobility anti-vehicle mode in unopposed airspace, as well as conventional rapid take and hold or sweep and clear engagements. Like all of Clan Kryze, they suffer when pinned to spot - they rely on their mobility to survive.

They famously paint their beskar'gam and bes'uliik green and gold, taking pride in the colour of duty and the fact the glittering gold can be seen from quite some distance. You wouldn't accuse them of stealth.

My only hitch, and it's a minor one, is that the weight they carry adds up a good bit. 25kg for the armor, 45ish for the SAW, then throw in the lance and the rifle and so forth and so on -- something about dismounted mobility issues could fit easily under Weaknesses.
