"It is a relic of the Great Tree that stood at our greatest Temples for centuries. It originally stood on Ossus, at the heart of the First Temple. Then found its way to the Grand Temple on Coruscant, where it bloomed until the waning years of the High Republic. Uncountable Jedi have trained beneath its branches, and thousands of birds have roosted among its leaves. It is but a distant memory now. Remembered through its last few tangible pieces."

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Heart of the Jedi: The Great Tree had an unfallible spiritual connection to the Light-side of the Force. Its petrified wood, to a lesser extent, still holds the Force signature that the ancient tree once held.
  • Meditative boon: Holding the piece of wood calms the mind and dispels dark thoughts, making it an invaluable aid to Light-side meditation.
  • Luminous beings we are: The shard of the Great Tree is uniquely able to support its attuned wielder in maintaining a connection to the Force in the most dire of circumstances.

STRENGTHS
  • The Force is with me: The shard of the Great Tree is so deeply ingrained in the Force that those who attune themselves to it may still find the Force within when all other connections are severed. In regions of Force nullification or under effects that disrupt one's bond with the Force, a Light-side Force wielder attuned to the artefact may continue to perform internally focused abilities, such as physical enhancement, tutaminis, and self-healing.
  • I sense the good in you:: Much like kyber crystals, the shard resists dark-side Force wielders who attempt to attune themselves to it or meditate in its presence, assailing them with unsettling visions and whispered voices drawn from the Force.

WEAKNESSES
  • Attunement and focus: Using the shard to overcome Force Nullification requires profound familiarity with its presence in the Force. Even after months of meditative focus, physical contact with the petrified wood is still required to sustain one's connection in the absence of the Force.
  • Wood is wood: Despite its spiritual potency, it remains nothing more than petrified wood and can be easily destroyed.
  • Light Eternal: Its presence in the Force cannot be concealed. No matter how skilled the user is at masking their Force signature, carrying the crystal will always make them detectable in the Force.
DESCRIPTION
The Shard of the Great Tree is a pendant carved from petrified wood taken from the uneti tree that stood at the heart of the greatest Jedi Temple for millennia. The tree was cut down and destroyed in the aftermath of the Great Jedi Purge by the Sith Lord Darth Sidious. What remained of it eventually found its way to Yavin 4, where it was given the chance to grow anew.

Nearly a millennium after the ancient Force-sensitive tree was felled on Coruscant, Jedi Master Sakadi Marathi Sinvala learned of the existence of a wood shard during her search for ancient Jedi artifacts that might aid her in redeeming her former apprentice, Cas Tynen, from the dark side and defeating the Sith Lord Insatious. The relic, highly sought after by collectors and Force practitioners alike, had been lost on Sullust in the wake of a catastrophic volcanic eruption.

Following the fall of the Galactic Alliance, Sakadi sought out the artifact, believing that securing it was the only way to prevent it from falling into Sith hands. When she finally recovered the wood, she discovered that the exposure to volcanic ash had petrified it. No longer capable of being planted or nurtured into a new uneti tree, the sapling had become little more than stone. Sakadi fashioned the petrified wood into a pendant, serving as both a reminder of her Jedi heritage and a symbol of the enduring resilience of the Light Side.
