Description:
STI's newest creation, is its Crystal Energy Reactor. This device takes advantage of a rather rare phenomenon, that of force crystals. After utilizing Sith alchemy to harden the crystals and alter them to produce even high amounts of energy than could normally be attained, the "mother" crystals (crystals roughly 3.5 meters long x .5 meters wide) were cut down into appropriate sizes depending upon the application. Anything from droids all the way up to 1,000 meter ships. Crystals meant to go into specialized droids were barely larger than force crystals used for lightsabers. While crystals meant to go into ship reactors were closer to the size of a small melon (15-20 cm). Although crystals used for much larger applications were also smaller, the appropriate "ingredients" required during the alchemic process could not be attained. So although powerful, they are not nearly as powerful nor as small as their predecessors used in ships and stations like the Death Star or the Malevolence.
Operating time of these crystals is completely unknown. As they are pulling energy directly from the force, theoretically they can provide power for an unlimited amount of time. The crystals have also been hardened through Sith alchemy so they are extremely durable. It is unknown what would happen in the event that they were destroyed while in use by an outside source such as a missile, bomb, or other type of weapon. A warning from the Sith who worked on the project was said to be cataclysmic to say the least. But with that warning in mind, STI didn't actually decide to test destroying it.
It works by firing an energy beam directly toward the crystal. The alchemically treated force crystal takes that energy and amplifies many many times over before expelling it back out as pure raw energy. The reactor itself is essentially nothing more than a small "depending on the reactor size" energy beam with a myriad of what are essentially lightning rods placed all around the crystal to harvest the energy. A small portion of the energy created goes back into the beam to keep the process going. So although the reactor can theoretically work indefinitely. To get it started initially, or even after the reactor is shut down for whatever reason, it requires an outside source such as a capacitor to get it going once again.
Also the fact that the reactors require force crystals to work, means that force sensitive individuals have a higher chance of detecting the reactors if whatever is carrying them gets close enough. In that way even cloaking devices are powerless to keep droids, vehicles, and/or ships undetectable if again, they get close enough to a person strong in the force.
