TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Classification
: Serum
Method of Consumption: Typically injection. Darts and arrows can be coated in the substance, and fired on Force-Sensitive targets. The substance will take effect if the dart pierces skin. Can be modified for transmission via water. But consuming it orally may produce more variable effects.
Average Life: Infusion causes the substance to trigger temporary dampening of the host's Force connection.
Nutritional Value/Allergies/Side Effects/ Purpose: The substance generates no nutritional value. Its purpose is to weaken a Force-Sensitive's ability to call upon the Force. It doesn't trigger Force-death or fully cut off a victim from the Force, but induces temporarily diminished Force capacity. Further symptoms and side-effects of successful infusion may include hallucinations, vomiting, migraines, fever, chills and nausea.

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Successful infusion will temporarily diminish a Force-Sensitive's Force connection. This applies in particular to actively using the Force. For example, a Force-Sensitive successfully afflicted by the substance may still be able to use telekinesis, but struggle to lift anything beyond small objects, fatigue a lot more easily, suffer from migraines, bleed from nose if they exert themselves. Someone used to chucking boulders with their mind may have trouble flipping a table. The effects are lesser when it comes to passive Force abilities such as Sense-based powers, though these may be diminished in reliability. The side-effects of exposure also play a role here. Migraines, hallucinations and the like can make it more difficult to benefit from precognition reliably.
STRENGTHS
  • Successful infusion temporarily diminishes a Force-Sensitive's strength in the Force.
WEAKNESSES
  • Dampening, not severence. The key thing is that it weakens an individual's Force connection, it doesn't prevent them from using the Force entirely. Moreover, the effect is temporary. Transmission via water is possible, but injection produces the more reliable result.
  • A dart can be loaded up with the substance, enabling battlefield use. However, such a dart would have to pierce skin for the substance to take effect. This means a poisoned dart is less effective against fully armoured targets unless one hits a weak spot.
  • Not infallible. High-level Force-Users particularly gifted in Force healing and related arts may be able to mitigate its effects.
DESCRIPTION

The Republican Guard has strong views on Force-users. Since a lot - though by no means all - of the Tephriki's misery can be laid at the doorstep of competing Force religions, this is understandable. The constant warfare between the Jedi and the Sith is interpreted as a proxy for a cyclical, genocidal religious war between two equally matched groups of powerful fanatics that leads to the 'mundanes' getting slaughtered by the billions.

They may have a point. Force cults are prohibited and the Force is regarded as a curse. A malevolent power that manipulates and twists sentient beings. The party line is that someone born with this condition is not responsible for it. But they must detained for their own good and that of the community, until they are deemed safe and can be released. Individuals who manifest Force powers are brought to an asylum. There, they are subjected to brainwashing, drugs and a good bit of mental trauma to associate the Force with bad things. The Soul Shadow Infusion was created to give the rebels a means of ridding Force-Sensitive asylum inmates and captive Jedi and Sith of the curse of the Force by turning them Force-Dead, as well as giving their best soldiers a resilience against the Force comparable to Yuuzhan Vong and their biots.

However, while potent, the Soul Shadow Infusion is not instantaneous or usable on the battlefield. It requires medical procedures. Another substance was needed that could be applied in a more direct fashion. The Serum for the Exorcism of the Cursed Soul Shadow is the answer. It is derived from the Soul Shadow Infusion, but doesn't induce Force-Death or fully severe someone from the Force. Instead the Serum temporarily induces diminished Force capacity. Those exposed to it can still feel the Force, but their ability to call upon it is weakened for a time. Darts and the like can be loaded up with the substance and fired on targets. It is possible to modify the substance for transmission via water, though this can produce variable results.
