(n) french - the fine, light rain that falls from a clear sky at sunset or in the early hours of night; evening serenity
Eadu, Irenic, The Senatory Hall, Nilia's Office, Early Evening

Lately, it seemed everyone was seeking Sovereignty favour.

That wasn't bad. Not bad at all, really, it was anything but. Sure, it meant more work, but that's what Nilia had signed up when she had campaigned and won her seat in the Senate. Work came with that territory, and so did negotiations between smaller groups interested in her government and what it could offer.

Eddak Manod. Admittedly, the name had never crossed her desk or been thrown around in the various social circles that she occupied, but that was to be expected. From what her assistant had procured on the man prior to their meeting today, he was a soldier, and soldiers often didn't mix with high society politicians. The military wasn't her forte, but she was willing to step out of her comfort zone if it meant opening dialogues with potential friends.

Slowly the Senator took a sip of her tarine tea, letting the warm feeling come over her as she awaited his arrival. Brown eyes flicked up to the window at the other end of the room, where it revealed Eadu and her capital Irenic were experiencing more of the same classical storms and rain that she'd come to expect and love from her homeworld. Normally she wouldn't take a meeting so important at a time where it was almost dusk, but it was also fairer on their visitors; it was harder to land in such violent storms as those, and while the city offered moderate shelter, it'd still be one hell of a trip from the ports to the Senatory Hall across the city. Her offices would be, for the lack of a better word, the 'battlegrounds' this evening. It was and would be a simple meeting, though she spoke with the authority of the Senate and the Sovereignty behind her. No pressure.

It was now a simple matter of waiting for the man of the hour to at last arrive, which Nilia was more than happy to do. She had her tea, and she had her storms, which meant any amount of time could fly by easily.

There have been a few back and forth HoloNet messages with the Sovereignty, but that was before they had become a big deal. A serious organization within the Galaxy. Eddak couldn't say he knew many of the people, but what he studied of them was that they had the very same ideals he had, if a slightly different theme to it all. Still, he very much greatly respected their efforts and passion, and that's why he struck up an offer to the Sovereignty. Extending GDI's jurisdiction was going to be more costly than profitable, and GDI being non-rpofit was beside the point. Still, it seemed like an opportunity to work with the Sovereignty and continue to establish good relations with others in the galaxy. Besides, Galderra was no longer hiding from everything, it would do them well to reach out with a letter of friendship.

Eddak had already landed on time for this appointment and was escorted to the Senators location. Unfortunately, he didn't check what the weather would be like, but he wasn't afraid. The escort gave him some rain cover and it was satisfactory. However, once they arrived, the escort let Eddak in, considering the weather, instead of waiting for an invitation inside. The escort announced their arrival as Eddak stood to the side, attempting to shake the water off of him and make sure his boots wouldn't dirty the floor. If they would, he would remove them. "My, this place is so large and sleek. Must be some powerful beams in here," Eddak said, as he waited to be greeted or continued to be escorted. He was a patient man.

Soon enough, a young Togruta female rounded a corner up ahead. She was dressed plainly, her montrails only reaching to her bust at most -- Still had some filling out to do, so she was a younger one -- But her eyes lit up in recognition as she spotted Eddak, moving on over as she greeted him, "Oh, hello! I'm Eyris, Senator Saavilin's assistant. You're Mr. Manod, correct?" Not halting for a reply, it was clear that she had a lot of pent-up energy and not many outlets for it beyond her speech, which was fast and just barely understandable, "The Senator is waiting in her office, just this way."

She would lead him down a hallway past two armed guards, who briefly stopped them to confirm their identities. It wouldn't take long, naturally, as there were no impersonators attempting to sneak in for nefarious reasons. Once let into the more heavily guarded area of the Senatory Hall, it was a short walk to the door that the Togruta girl stopped at, smiling, "She's expecting you, just go on in." It was clear that the secretary would be waiting outside whilst the meeting went on, perhaps not privileged enough to weigh in on the meetings that could prove to be beneficial for both sides of the table.

Within, the Sovereign Senator awaited. Perhaps this was the start of something grand.

Eddak turned his head with a grin as he saw a cute young Togruta getting his attention, "Yes, I-" Eddak tilted his head with a smile before going silent and following her. It seemed she was all over the place or very busy. Eddak understood, as he would spend more than the average 9 to 5 shift on the throne. Not looking pretty, either. Work, work, work. Eddak willingly accepted the identity check as it was proper protocol, and Galderra was all about proper protocol, no matter how unnecessary or however much it may appear rude. Not that this incident was unnecessary or seemed rude, but just on Galderra it was harshly expected for protocol. Eddak nodded to the Togruta as she let him continue without her.

He slowly pushed the door open and entered, not knowing what to expect. However, once inside he was sharply surprised, seeing something he was never expecting. Not that it was bad, it was great. The Sovereign Senator was a young, gorgeous woman. Get a hold of yourself Eddak, this is not the time nor the place. His eyes were wide for a moment but then he blinked a couple times, coming back to reality. He slowly stepped over to where the senator was and smiled, "Greetings, I am Eddak Manod, we have an appointment to speak about a..." Eddak teased, "relationship, with the sovereignty?"

Nilia was jolted out of whatever daydream she had been having once she heard her guests' voice, rising to her feet at once from her chair at his arrival as an obvious show of respect, "Of course, it's a pleasure to meet you, I trust your journey wasn't too uncomfortable. I'm afraid the storms get terrible this time of year." Her tone was mildly teasing by the end of it as well, obviously alluding to the fact that Eadu was a planet constantly ravaged by storms.

Taking her seat once more she gestured to the one that had been prepared in front of her desk, a comfortable-looking chair with a high back, a place for him across so they might begin, continuing on to address his reason for being here, "Relationships are all anyone seems to want to talk about, lately, though I can't fault them for that." Once both had sat down, the Senator smiled and clasped her hands together, "Now, what can the Sovereignty do for you?" Or, she thought with a mild curiosity, what could this man do for us?

Eddak smirked, showing his teeth a little, as his head slowly leaned down from a nod from the womans mention of the storm. He happily took the seat offered to him and raised his leg, grabbing at his ankle. "Storm? You call that a storm? Haha! Oh, i mean no disrespect, ehm... miss Saavilin, correct? This is what we call a... the word best fitting you would say is a sprinkle. Sometimes if we want milk it's like we have to walk through a monsoon. It's why Galderra started as wood and is just stone, now. Entirely easier to manage. Less places for water damage, corrosion, we don't even use a lot of electricity. Any power is local. Wanna power a subspace transceiver? You have a Gonk right next to the table, haha!" Eddak showed he was quite comfortable here, even perhaps letting his guard down. Maybe he didn't fear the sovereignty, or he was just distracted by the woman in front of him.

Eddak shrugged at the mention of Nilia mentioning the relationship topic, perhaps she caught on that quick, heh. "I've spoken lightly, very lightly, with the young leader, Varik Ice. His faction represents a lot of what I hold dear. It's unfortunate that we had to be in two different parts of the galaxy." Eddak reached up with his opposite hand to brush his thumb at the spot under his eye, "Galderra Defense Initiative, and I, have explored as much information as we can publically gather on the Sovereignty, and on behalf of Galderra, I'd like to make a proposal. GDI, you see, supports independence and freedom of all civilizations. We provide relief support to those who have been mangled by war, bring others up to standard so they can be self sufficient, provide protection, and we also hunt down piracy, slavery, smugglers, and other similar things. If we would be allowed jurisdiction in your space, we could provide patrols for such things, and help to alleviate such burdens from the Sovereignty, who would be better suited to managing fleets and resources elsewhere. All that we would require is a planet or asteroid field; a planet for food and minor material resources, or the asteroid field to provide enough materials to build ships. Just so we wouldn't have to mooch off of the Sovereignty. And no, miss Saavilin, we would not be staking claim. Just a contract for use, and when it runs up, we can renew it or happily go on our way. Of course, we would need permission to have a shipyard and station of headquarters within Sovereignty space, as well."

An important part of diplomacy was knowing when to listen and when to speak. Nilia smiled at the personality exhibited by him but remained silent, seemingly amused and entertained which was something she hadn't expected to feel when this meeting had begun. He was a character, and she liked that for sure. The Sovereignty needed more people like this, instead of preening Senators and greedy opportunists. Her patient silence continued as he laid out his proposal, letting the ideas ferment in her brain afterward, leaning forward on the desk with interlocked fingers. They did seem to have common goals. It reminded her of their plans and operations in the Kessel system which certainly involved the themes of true liberty and freedom of oppression, how the two concepts seem to weave beautifully together. This could be just what they needed.

For a moment or two, the Senator was quiet before she leaned forward and nodded her head, "I must say, it seems as though our goals do align extraordinarily well," Nilia began, letting that polite smile grow a little, "And I do think your offered services would be of great use to us. And, whilst I have been granted certain bargaining power by the Senate for this particular meeting, I may not have the power to grant your company jurisdiction over an entire world without going through proper channels. However we may freely discuss what sort of location you're looking for, decide on somewhere, and I could bring it before my colleagues and put it up for a vote to grant GDI exclusive rights to the area as a base of operations. I'm fairly confident it would pass with flying colours." Truth be told, she already had a locale in mind, but said nothing on it; it was best to let the discussion continue a bit more before starting to throw out legitimate ideas that could start solidifying things too quickly.

"My faction would undoubtedly need a Space Station to conduct operations as a headquarters with shipyards to construct some small ships, as I said so we don't mooch off of you." Eddak continued, giving a little stretch of the legs. He wasn't tired or bored, just a little old, "Preferably with a planet nearby with breathable atmosphere, to give crew shore leave, and a local way to get food, and possibly other resources. But if all else fails we can certainly trade for supplies, especially if we're along a known trade route. Minimum requirement is an asteroid field that we would have permission to mine to produce ships." Eddak smiled and nodded to Nilia as he thought to himself, thinking over what he said, "I think that should be enough. Have I asked for too much?"

"I suppose we'll find out. Personally, the locale I had in mind was Formos," Tapping a finger on the surface of her desk, a small holoprojector would activate and a hologram of the small world would appear between the Senator and her guest, "Not very many asteroids, but it's practically next door to Eadu, with trade routes running right to the heart of the Outer Rim and, of course, Kessel. Trade would be plentiful. And as I hear it, the planet itself is an old smuggler's haven with a rather large spaceport. A place that could do with some cleaning." Truth be told, this killed two womprats with one blaster bolt; it would solve a rather glaring Sovereignty issue of what exactly to do with a planet harboring crime so very close to their capital which also didn't seem to hold much value except its capacity for life. But perhaps it could find a second lease as a satisfying locale for Eddak and GDI. A happy ending for everyone.

"Though, of course, it's open to discussion. We have other systems under our control that could be suitable as well."

Eddak tilted his head as he watched the projector come on. He had heard of Formos, he thought some of Neldars old contacts may be there from the documents of the old alien he read. But.... that was almost a lifetime ago, Eddak was surprised he still remembered the alien.... and the day he had to kill him... But, a smuggling ring? Smugglers spaceport? The trade runs sounded nice, but why set up shop right in the kitchen of a smugglers den? Eddak leaned forward, eying the girl behind the desk for a moment, "not to say GDI couldn't handle it, but.... you do realize I'll be within shuttle range of a smugglers den, aye? I can't just let them sit there, who knows what they would do. Or, would you perhaps be asking me to ... clean up the planet? Or just a little?" Eddak leaned back once more as he laced his fingers, "I could take over the spaceport, be lenient with those that live there, not kick anyone out. But also establish a legitimate security force on the planet. Innocent until proven guilty, yes? However... what should I do if they bite back? If they join forces to fight be back? You expect me to just turn tail and run?"
