The planet Mykr now kissed the border of GA space, in the buffer region between the Alliance and the new Mando Empire. It was a virtual no-place of a world, historically a haven for the typical dregs of the galaxy. But in the new arrangement in the cosmos, every world held potential value. Taam and Nir had been assigned to visit the sole point of true civilization on the world, the frontier town of Hyllyard City. Their presence would be a visible reminder of the Alliance purview of the planet, gauge the scale of any nefarious activity, and to detect any Mandalorian presence.

The Pride approached the planet's upper atmosphere, plunging into it and deeper into storm clouds in the lower atmosphere. Suddenly, the patrol courier shuddered, the controls pulling hard to one side.

"D1!" Taam growled at the astromech droid, who whined and whirred, a message popping up on a message screen on the console. #1 ion-jet engine out. The words flashed in an ominous red glow. The droid sped off to address the failure.

"Nir, take the controls, we're over forest, find a clearing!" The big Cathar snarled, knowing his padawan was as good a pilot as he. Taam slid into a side seat and rerouted auxillary power to see of the engine could be restarted or forced to limp along long enough to land.

Nir was never much of a pilot. Or at least, not much of an ace. He could fly, sure, but under stable conditions. When they weren't being shot at. When they weren't crashing.

"Right, uh..." For a moment, he panicked, before closing his eyes, and focusing on the Force. It was the only thing he could think of. Humming a song, and getting his focus, he grabbed the stick and shoved it right, aiming for a small clearing in the trees. At least they'd be in a forest. Somewhere familiar, terrain wise.

Surely this would be fine, right?

...right?

Taam set to adjusting the ship's power flow to compensate for the failure. He heard Nir humming, knowing that the music would help him focus. The older Cathar had no doubt that the padawan could get them onto the ground safely.

He heard the someone anxious question. Taam leaned to to peer out the viewport. "Yes, there, perfect." He assured Nir.

The knight had the same though as his padawan. The forest was their turf. The two of them often raced through the jungles of New Cov, or on any world where they could get up into some trees. Didn't matter the species, if they had trunks and limbs, the two Cathar jedi could move through them instinctively.

The landing was a bit rough, But Nir succeeded. The astromech droid rolled back into the cockpit, beeping and whining.

"Totally blown huh?" Taam replied to the droid, discouraged. "D1 will try to salvage the burnt coupler, but chances are its a loss. You and I may have to go trekking to see if we can get to Hyllard City to get a new part. Grab some gear, keep it light, its quite a ways. " Nir had a larger armory than Taam, but he let the ginger Denik chose what to bring.

Taam slipped on his armored jacket, fixing the great sword in its place in his back. A few more small items were tucked into a utility belt. "Meet me at the end of the ramp when you are ready." he instructed the padawan.

Nir took a moment, breathing a bit heavy as they landed. He did it! He did it...

Finally letting go of the controls, Taam could see claw marks slightly dug into the stick, as Nir took a long, deep breath.

"...right, sorry. Not usually one to fly."

He paused, looking back at Taam went towards the arsenal. Nir didn't seem to follow, instead walking towards the ramp and waiting for his master to come by.

Taam gathered the minimal amount of gear for the trek to Hyllard City. He gave D1 some final instructions in the cockpit, his eyes noting the gouges in the console left by his padawan during the harrowing landing. A small smile touched his face.

Meeting Nir at the bottom of the ramp, Taam retrieved his Force compass. Focusing a moment on his connection to the device, he then observed its indication. He had looked at the map before leaving the cockpit, and the compass seemed to be pointing slightly off the coordinates for the town. It was the hitch with the powerful device. Often, it would point not to the place the Jedi wanted to go, but where he needed to go. Taam was unsure which was the case. He had shared that fact with Nir before, and had seen his master ponder the same question on a few occasions.

He chose to follow the compass. "This way..." The older Cathar indicated with his hand. The two headed through the forest.

Roughly a half-hour into their journey. The two Cathar heard a sound unusal to the forest noises they had noted so far. Suddenly, a blue-white burst appeared a ways ahead through the trees. An armored figure ascended through the canopy with a jet pack.

Taam knew Nir was much better at tree-walk than him. "Nir, see if you can get high enough and spot what is going on." Taam encouraged the Denik.

Taam hoped what he suspected was not true. Mandalorians.
