It was just after dinner time. Soph had plans to study in her room after going to the crowded Refectory. Except when she'd gotten to the dorm she shared with Jen, there was a ribbon tied on the door. And Soph knew what that meant. So, she'd been forced to head up to the libraries. A place she didn't visit often at all. Soph liked learning by doing. But as Master Epictetus said, she was behind on her studies of the jedi way. The histories and techniques. And considering she needed to pass his class, she found herself tucked next to a window, hunched down over several datapads and scrolls spread across the shared table.

Looking absolutely miserable.

She would rather be in the clinic.

She would rather be in the training grounds.

She would rather be...

What was that? Frowning, she flipped the scroll as a page of something popped out. It was clear that wasn't supposed to be there. Sapphire gaze lifted, looking for someone, or perhaps multiple someones, who could help her.

The library had a few things going for it, the air was cool and quiet, people usually didn't bother you if you looked busy, and when she ran into a roadblock, she could look up the information here. Unfortunately, it was often where the Masters banished her to when they wanted to get her out of her room or workshop. So now she was sitting at one of the open study desks with her back to the wall. She still didn't like people moving around behind her, and this way she could also watch people through the hair hanging down over her face as she perused a scanned document on mechu-deru using a data pad.

Not far away, Sophelia was having her moment of discovery, and Casaana caught sight of her searching around. Guiltily, panicked? She couldn't decide, but thought watching might be an interesting distraction for a bit.

Feet propped lazily on the study table, arms folded across his chest, Roman drifted in and out of a quiet snooze. Returning with Outbound Flight from parts unknown meant downtime, and he was taking full advantage of the lull while waiting for his transport back to Ukatis. Cora had dragged her feet with business of her own on the grounds, leaving him to wander the Jedi sanctuary until settling on the library. It was the only place peaceful enough to clear his head.

A sudden rustle of parchment and the scrape of datapads broke the quiet.

One eye opened, tracking the blonde girl across the table as she frantically scanned her surroundings. A fallen page rested near her elbow, clearly out of place among the ancient scrolls. Puzzled by the sudden wave of panic radiating off her, Roman stayed still, letting his gaze linger.

"Shhh."

Shhh.

Who had just...

She searched, eyes crossing over another girl with a brown-bobbed cut who was watching. Casaana Casaana But she didn't think she...gaze pulled closer to home at the vagrant taking up space across from her. At first glance, she'd assumed the sleeping man was homeless Roman Vossari Roman Vossari . Jedi were nice like that, right? Provide a nice, cool quiet place for the homeless of Theed to prop their dirty boots up with grungy clothes and take a snooze.

A quiet huff and pinch of her brows together as her eyes left his questionable attire to drag upward to that one-open lid.

And if he wasn't homeless...

What a wampa's butt.

"Do you even go here?" A whisper that was laced with ire. But also a hint of amusement and something else. A quick glance between the page she clutched and back around the library, searching for something. Chair scooted back with a screech as she stood, holding the paper up toward the back wall.

“I think it’s a map,” she murmured.

Overcome by curiosity, Casaana craned her neck around, trying to get a look at what Sophelia was holding. Weird that someone had even tried hiding something in one of the rare books in the library. Almost everything was digital in this age. "No, much more better," she butted in as the other girl said it was a map. "It's a drawing of a map." She drew out the word, enunciating each sound. Really, it could just be a doodle. Nobody would just leave something important tucked away in a public book, right? Ohhh, but what if it were a real map? What could it be showing the way to? A trove of snacks or old droids? "Wonder if it actually lines up with anything around here." She mused.

As for Roman, the little Padawan didn't care. Furniture was there to put stuff on. Why could shops put shoes up on tables but people couldn't? It didn't make sense. As long as he didn't make a mess or bother her, she didn't care what he or any other Jedi did while passing through the main temple.

Disbelief flared as the accusation hit, prompting Roman to slowly tilt his head back. "Who even are you?" he shot back, matching her ire without breaking sweat. Studying her face, he knew she was a stranger. Having spent time around this temple and seeing those who traveled to Ukatis under Corazona's tutelage, he recognized most of the regulars, but this one was new.

Leaning forward, his boots hit the floor as he reached out and snatched the parchment right from between the two girls. Holding the paper up to the library light, his sharp gaze scanned the sketched lines.

"Looks like a map to finding a better attitude," he muttered, dropping his hands to shoot a pointed glance at the blonde.

Features softened as the girl with the bob of brown hair chimed in. Hmm. Yes. A drawing of a map. Somehow that made it much more exciting.

“Hi, I’m Soph. I think I’ve seen you around Master Chomsky’s class.” The importance of political commentary around being a Jedi. With Soph’s experience from a Noble house and all the politics involved there, the class was a little dull.

But she would take the easy class, considering she was behind in everything else.

“Hey,” she sputtered as the vagrant snatched away the drawing of the map. She made a swipe for it but missed. “That’s NOT funny.” Lips thinned.

“Sophelia Ardemark to you,” she answered him coolly. One golden brow arched as she feigned disinterest. Studying her pristine nails before those blue eyes of hers traveled back to his smug face. “You are…?”

A glance back to the other girl. “I’m pretty sure that first part of the map is down below in the archive room. But…it’s odd. That map shows a door where I’m pretty sure is only a wall of shelves.” Her frosty gaze thawed slightly as curiosity won out. And that sense of adventure.

“We should totally absolutely one-hundred percent go check it out.”

Casaana brightened as Soph introduced herself, she might be making a friend! And she was also not the one who was a source of ire for once. "Casaana, and probably. I take a lot of classes just to fill the time," she replied. And then, before she could stop herself as the two bickered, "Are you two like secretly in love, or did you both forget all the stuff about controlling our emotions, tact, diplomacy, decorum, and acting like a Jedi? Because you both lost your tempers pretty quick."

Scooting her chair back, she checked her pockets and pouches. A lot of her stuff had been confiscated recently, and she needed to take inventory. Weird how Padawans were encouraged to carry around laser swords and could have personal starships, but you carry around one little security bypass kit in the temple...

Flicking her gaze back up to the others to see if they'd calmed down or were upset with her now, she offered, "Downstairs sounds easy enough. We can move a bookcase or two." Hopping to her feet, she packed up her few study materials and was soon ready to go.

A bark of laughter escaped Roman as he pulled the parchment back out of Sophelia's reach. "Roman Vossari," he said, setting the map down on the wooden surface between them. Casaana's jab about them being secretly in love earned an amused roll of his eyes. "She wishes. And who said I was a Jedi?"

Looking back down at the rough sketch, the idea of wandering into the lower archives sounded considerably better than staring at the ceiling until Cora finished her business. Boredom made for strange decisions.

"I've got time to kill," Roman said, leaning back into his chair and lacing his fingers behind his head. A mischievous grin spread across his face as the two girls started gathering their things. "I'm not moving any heavy shelving, though. I'll leave the heavy lifting to you two. Girl power and all."

A playful roll of her eyes at Casaana Casaana 's accusations. To him? Really? As if. An amused and annoyed huff through her chest. Narrow of her eyes on this Roman Vossari. She snatched the map back even as she thought about the name for a second.

Had Cora mentioned him before?

They'd talked about a lot of things on the ride over to Jakku. She had a feeling the senior jedi had been trying to distract Soph from her own nerves. And air sickness.

"She wishes. And who said I was a Jedi?"

She gave him a cool, superior once-over. "Ew." But there was a spark of something. Mischief matching his own. "In the presence of such a modern man." Soph rolled her eyes and turned, following after Cassana. "Let's go."

They descended a set of winding metal stairs and followed the narrow aisle toward the far wall, where the lighting grew dimmer and the shelves gave way to older storage units. At the very back, half-hidden behind a stack of neglected data crates, stood a section of shelving that looked almost identical to the rest.

Soph peered down at the map, holding it up to the others. Then pointed at the shelf. "That's where it says the door is. Do you guys see anything out of place? Maybe a lever or something else?"

Soph stepped forward and examined one of the stacked dataholos. The light flickering along the walls.
