ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • General Systems:
    Military Grade Gravity Well Projectors
  • GAMS
  • HIMS

[*]Offensive Systems:

[*]Defensive Systems:
  • Military Grade Reinforced Armor
  • Redundant Shielding

Strengths:
  • Mainstay of The Fleet -
With extremely capable armament, a hardy defense against most forms of damage, and an exceptional build quality; the mere presence of a ‘Leviathan’ is enough to inspire the fleet to trudge forward. Although not normally a command flagship, the vessel itself is the mainstay of any fleet focused on home defense or invasion purpose, with everything under the hood from orbital bombardment capacity, to mine laying, to even forward operating bases. Although the ship doesn’t excel at any particular portion of naval combat, its viability is undoubted in the realm of naval warfare as any space borne tactician would know its many uses.

Unable to pass some in what they do best, it instead seeks to do everything ‘good enough’.

[*]Floating Fortress -
  • With such a massive ship, especially one with so many highly advanced features, the ship requires exceptional defense to make the risk of running one in a fleet not supercede that of its cost effectiveness. In practice, this is done through two very important means; the first being its exceptional armor plating. With military grade quadanium covering much of its frame, the only thing that adds additional protection is the reinforced reactive durasteel alloy skinplates that cover the entire vessel, allowing primary defense against both ion strikes and assaults from kinetic sources. The second, however, is the exceptional flagship shield design produced by Jaeger, ‘The Aegis’. This shield allows for not only redundant protection, but molecular overlays and feedback underlays for exceptional response without ever firing a shot.

Weaknesses:
  • Mo' Tech, Mo' Problems -
With the introduction of so many advanced systems, the ship requires highly trained technicians and engineers to keep the vessel running at all times. Maintence being the mainstay of their work, any of the crew would be unlikely to even attempt to fix most systems on the ship should they be hit by a direct blast. This means that whenever the vessels sustains serious damage, or almost any gets past the shielding, large scale repairs from be undertaken at the nearest friendly port; No exception. While exceptionally durable, the vessel relies on its exterior durability to protect the squishy center hidden deep behind the hardened layers of war. Hit any of these, and a number of systems aboard the vessel will cease to work.

[*]Slow Rollin' -
  • Even among capital grade vessels, the 'Leviathan' is exceptionally slow. In both terms of speed and maneuverability, it is a churning tank rather than an agile assassin. With much of the power of the systems dedicated to the various computerized systems and endless armament or defensive measures, this leaves the engines to suffer. This can become even more of an issue when considering that its main capital weapons are foreward mounted with a minimal five degree aiming arc; as any fleet to move outside of this would be able to avoid most of its stronger armament with ease and simply broadside the softer edges of the beast.

Description:

-- Overview --
The SD-584 “Leviathan” Class Star Destroyer is the first introduction to the exceptionally large market of capital ships by Jaeger Solutions, with exceptional help from Aegis Systems, their notorious sister company. Meant to be used as the mainstay of any fleet, the ‘Leviathan’ is a monster meant for holding the line, and pushing it in as many aspects as possible. The technologically advanced features create a vessel for the greatest of fleets, for those who paying the price for the device that is.

-- History --
Years of witnessing naval combat through the eyes of the Primeval’s computers and untold battles throughout history helped to create a strong foundation for the eventual research and development of the SD-584; first hand experiencing beginning during a fleet engagement against The Dominion while aboard a Primeval Class Star Destroyer; a ship capable of endless amounts of long range destruction. This, with the addition of witnessing the Acerbitas from the other direction helped to inspire The Slave to write up the original blueprints for his new flagship vessel.

After Jaeger solutions found exceptional success in its various armor lines, and growing success in naval combat; there is a continued pressure to introduce something more on par with other capital ships. This is where the ‘Leviathan’ began its birth, as the first R&D teams set upon the task were outsourced initially by Cybele, the enigmatic leader of Jaeger’s operations. A relatively small company, it went by the name of ‘Sar Ti Naval Designs’ before quickly being taken over through various financial measures implemented by Jaeger themselves. It was this first design created by them that would enable much of the further features added later on.

With the initial steps completed, the design was sent back to the source of much of Jaeger’s destructive capacity; The Slave himself. Through Cybele's education and more, he helped to further refine the idea with her help to develop an exceptional battleship for the masses. Utilizing the newly acquired dry docks on Nar Shaddaa, the ship took its first breath of life when deployed as an orbiting security vessel on the smugglers moon.

-- Design --
The “Leviathan” has a number of features across the entire ship, inside and out, all the participate and excel in terms of naval combat. Traditionally, the vessel has no outright weakness besides its speed and lumbersome body; but this falls heavily in line with standard needs for traditional ship to ship engagements. This ‘generic’ status is exceeded by the various armaments actually added onto the vessel, along with untold depth in its computer systems made custom by Aegis Systems.

To begin, there is first a focus on the ships armor, frame, and hull. Commonly they utilize specially designed beam support offered through Jaeger’s own team; with these frames are most commonly made with reinforced alusteel for weight, while reinforcing key joints and critical struts with things like condensed matter composites and durasteel alloy, taking strong cues from mandalorian iron in terms of rigidity to help resist the unconventional ship to ship ram attempt or accidental collision. Sub frames are almost exclusively made of alusteel for the purpose of mounting the interior portions of the vessel, with only the occasional durasteel reinforcement.

The armor however, is where a bit more of the beauty came in. A multi layered Quadanium steel hull lines the entirety of the vessel, similar to the age old Death Star, but made specifically for the purpose of resisting large scale shots with or without the assisting shield generators. To better assist with ion attacks and kinetic shots, two things were added on top of this however; the first being the duraplast alloy skin plates. These skin plates are specially designed to help absorb as much ion energy as possible and distribute it across the surface of the vessel before dying off. This ship wide countermeasure can often help when facing down severe odds, but can be destroyed with sustained fire from ion batteries, or the act of shooting with any other classification of weapon; bringing us to our last addition, the reactive charges places beneath each of the skin plates. A number of sensors line the entirety of the vessel, allowing it to ‘sense’ when a round is going to hit before it actually hits, this being either turbolaser or kinetic shots from the likes of hypervelocity cannons. When it is seen that the offending shot is close enough, shaped charges will set themselves off to ‘intercept’ the incoming round with the overlying skin plate, effectively allowing most of the initial damage to be spent combating this aptly named reactive charge. Although not a guarantee to stop incoming damage, this can help subside it exceptionally; though it can only be used once in any given spot. This reactive property also makes the ship exceptionally expensive to repair once in port, as ever shot that made it through would set one off unless in the same exact spot; in which case the hull beneath would be subject to refit.

As far as the shields go, each vessel is armed with what is collectively known as ‘The Aegis’; a shield capable of defending its host with five layers of redundant shielding. This is done through charging a series of military grade capacitor banks on the vessel itself, most notably through the first outer layer of molecular shielding, quickly charging the ship with excess of 50% efficiency. After initial energy assaults are met by this, the feedback layer beneath is able to send back energy charges capable of delivering up to 40% of the initial damage back at the offending party; creating a constant response from the entire vessel even if the ships remain off. This, added with the fact it can open small holes for the expressive purpose of firing back without dropping the ship’s defenses as a whole, while also able to fill any gaps between the shield generators. Combine this with the effectiveness of the armor creates a floating fortress on the battlefield; making wars of attrition its speciality.

To power these systems, ‘Leviathans’ are given one loadout; that being the III-A1A Primary Hypermatter-Annihilation Reactor capable of powering every weapon, shield, and microwave aboard the vessel at once. In addition, every section of the ship has a strictly independent life support and emergency protocol system hooked up to military grade batteries that are charged at all times; making it so that if the ship was to ever suffer instant failure of power systems, the vessel would be able to keep itself going for a maximum of 24 hours on bare minimum essentials, or thirty minutes should combat still be required. This allows either time to send out a long range SOS from any part of the ship, or get back to a safe repair facility should the worst happen.

Navigationally, the ship suffers in part because of the pure scale and weight of the vessel, but also in part because of power needs favouring weapons and defensive measures; especially in combat. Outside, with most systems set to standby, the ship is able to perform at significantly more satisfactory levels, but does not make up for the fact the ship itself simply does not have the capacity for exceptional maneuvers or otherwise dangerous tactics; outside of the headstrong kind. Making up for this with a hyperdrive made custom by Jaeger for this specific vessel, constant information is imported through Aegis’s various systems and technology, effectively allowing consistent and highly accurate hyperspace jumps with ease in almost all areas of the galaxy. Constantly updated as well, the ship finds a constant input of data from all corners of the navigated galaxy; having up to date reports on ion storms and more from intergalactic meteorological societies.

Armament wise, the ship is able to strike down other vessels of its class through the use of high powered hyper velocity cannons or turbolasers littering its entirety. Overall, the ship itself stands toe to toe with anything short of a battleship. From front to back, she is able to lay out massive amounts of firepower in a short period mostly due to her size; but enough power to back up the fleet regardless.

-- Summary --

The vessel is a battleship through and through, meant to bring a foreboding presence and a strong arm to any system. There is much one could do with one should they come into control of one; but that right is exclusive to those who make a deal with Jaeger; the galaxies growing war authority.

There are enough differences between the "Limited" and "Mass produced" versions of the Leviathan that these should be separate submissions.

[member="Gir Quee"]

Updated.

As far as the differentiation, the only applicable differences are the addition of more weapons for the Extreme armament rating, an AXIOS AI, a molecular furnace for planetary assault supplies, different armor/subframe for flavor, and the addition of more powerful reactors for the sake of powering the additional systems. If all other aspects are the same, would this really require another submission entirely? Much of it would simply be copy and pasted over regardless, and the 'limited' variant is simply meant to act as small fleets flagships.

I'm willing to make the second submission if you'd like, I'd just want it known before hand that the differences being so minor would likely end up with a copy paste of this submission.

[member="The Slave"], that's enough changes that this needs a second submission.

From my perspective, a single submission for both ships would be appropriate if it was something small: like cosmetics, fluff, or a single, minor subsystem change.

As a rule of them, if it effects a rating, there's a good chance that it needs its own separate submission.

We don't keep strict gun counts any more, but this is several orders of magnitude higher than I'm comfortable with seeing. If you'll lower the turbolasers, ion cannon batteries, and "Gos Karza" batteries to a third of what they currently are, please.

Does this grant any gameplay advantage over standard hyperdrives?

I'm not familiar with this. Can you point me to a reference showing that a quadanium steel or similar material can redistribute ion energy in a matter like that?

I'm going to point out that this essentially negates the major weakness of "The Aegis" shield system that this ship uses, which means that this going to fall under a lot of scrutiny.

If this is an armor construction that you intend to use in the future, I highly recommend making the armor plating its own submission.

I don't see any solar ionization cannons listed in this version of the sub. Please remove "most" from this sentence as well.

Please tone this down a bit. It's certainly a competent ship for its size, but it's a bit much saying that it's equally as powerful as smaller battlecruisers, which are a whole class above a star destroyer like the leviathan.

I must have accidentally deleted that. Fixed it now tho.

This was done off looking at the Mepherium Class Battlecruiser, to at least give you a rationale. I dropped them down, and rounded them out a bit.

Flavor text for 'it go fast'. Sorta like an afterburner for a traditional jet; something that doesn't really play into its speed since it still have a Low rating regardless.

Gir Quee said:

Other than being a 1.0, not really. One part was to ensure people could actively use these vessels to patrol in unfamiliar territory (like the Unknown Regions), and the other is just for it to be able to jump. Motivators are standard equipment in canon, so once again just flavor text. No PvP advantages to be had.

Gir Quee said:

Two large ones.

Gir Quee said:

Quadanium cannot. I put Durasteel thinking that it was the matieral meant, but it was actually Duraplast that could be reinforced to be extremely resistant to EMP or Ion Cannon warfare. I also usually put this on my larger submissions, but I'll ensure that I make it it's own submission next.

The first post I did of this, I had a few of my other battery listed; to which I had forgotten I had made them limited so I following up by only putting them on the limited variant. Just a bit of excess, and will remove now.

Removed the '3k' of it, to just mention that it can stand toe to toe with anything short of a battleship.

If you'll make a note of that somewhere within the submission itself please. There are a number of devices like that on Chaos which do specifically grant bursts of speed that affect maneuverability.

Removed its mention because I couldn't think of somewhere to put it. Hope that's alright.

Looks pretty good. Ran over it with a fine tooth comb just to make sure I wasn't missing anything, and only found one small thing.

x50 Long-Range HELIX Launchers

HELIX missiles are listed at being minor production, and this a mass produced product. Typically, we can't put technologies with a smaller production level into a product with a larger production level.

What we could do, is have these launchers be compatible with HELIX warheads but not exclusive to them. This would allow the Leviathan to occasionally launch HELIX warheads, but most of the time use something else.

Alternatively, you could pick a different missile type for these launchers.
