OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Screechers
  • Designation: Semi-sentient
  • Homeworld: Bastion
  • Language: Screeches, chittering, body language
  • Average Lifespan: 15 years
  • Estimated Population: Semi-Unique
  • Description: At first glance, the Screechers look much like a dark-furred tach, their faces somewhat distorted and elongated, but with the notable distinction of dark wings sprouting from their shoulders. Red eyes can be unnerving to a first-time observer.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I
  • Average height of adults: 1.5 meters
  • Average length of adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Gray to blueish-gray
  • Hair color: Dark Gray to a grayish-white
  • Distinctions: The obvious distinctive trait that separates the Screechers from other species of mammal are the large feathery wings on their backs. Females typically have longer tails that they use to grip things easier, while males have hooks to their claws to make them both more useful in capturing and holding prey and tearing it apart.
  • Races: No other races
  • Strengths:
  1. Screechers are thorough and helpful workers and assistants, following commands given to them to the letter. Taeli also made sure, through Sith alchemy, that they can learn how to do simple tasks on their own to free up other assistants and the Doctors for other more important tasks.
  2. Screechers have the ability to fly short distance due to the wings merged into them through Taeli's alchemy. They can get some lift to reach things up high with no discernable way to climb or if the surface is delicate and can glide.
  3. Screechers also have a very powerful grip, enhanced with their tails and the sharp claws they have. Males and females both have preferred ways of gripping something, males with their hooked claws on most occasions and females with their tails.
  • Weaknesses:
  1. Screechers are not designed for combat, and thus if attacked, they are pretty easy to kill or injure.
  2. Screechers can get distracted if they encounter something they have never seen. This could potentially delay work until the good Doctors get them back on task.
  3. The wings on the Screechers are delicate, any damage to them could cause permanent loss of flight for the poor creature.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivore
  • Communication: Screeches, chittering, and body language are how they are able to communicate with each other, but they are able to understand commands in both Basic and Sith.
  • Technology level: They have not developed technology themselves, nor will they be able to, but they can learn how to use basic tools already made for them.
  • Religion/Beliefs: While they some emerging sentience, they have not yet developed a complex belief system or religion. If one says they have a belief system, it is in following the orders of the good Doctor to the best of their abilities.
  • General behavior: Because of the role they were created for, the Screechers' behavior is more geared towards servitude than anything else. They follow commands easily enough, and they are always trying to be helpful. Their emerging sentience also allow them to recognize names given to them, and they will create their own version of that name in how they communicate with others of their species. They can get easily distracted by shiny objects or something they've never seen the Doctor work on. When left to their own devices, they will generally rest, glide around their habit in search of food, or play with one another. However, if they hear an order, they will stop whatever they are doing and rush to follow the command.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Sometimes, odd ideas are given form in the most random of ways. The Screechers are a definite example of this, born from the curiosity of the Lady of Secrets and an offhand remark made by [member="Dr. Vain Jar'He"]. The good Doctor had made a comment that one of Taeli's passing apprentices had heard in one of the military hospitals on Bastion, and she had immediately gone to the Lady of Secrets with the idea, mistaking it for a request. Well, Taeli had instructed her people to get ahold of some Tach from the worlds of Taris and Kashyyyk and some Banshee Birds from Corellia and they would go from there.

Using some mild Sith Alchemy, she fused the two creatures together to form a new lifeform, a Sithspawn that did not have any special or insidious abilities. The new Screechers, the name aside as she had left the naming process to a group of younger acolytes, were designed to be the assistants the good doctor and her sister [member="Dr. Jain Ve'Rah"] had wanted. They could understand commands given to them in Basic or the Sith language, learn how to perform simple tasks, and otherwise be good low-level helpers for the doctors in their work.

The Screechers are able to fly thanks to their new wings, allowing them to reach places out of comfortable reach for the doctors. But, being the Lady of Secrets, she had to add one extra thing to them that curiously manifested in gender traits. The males grew hooked claws, better for gripping onto something or tearing it apart, while the females gained a powerful tail that could act prehensilely and grip surfaces and objects easier.
