GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Planet Name: Scorath.
  • Demonym: Scorathi.
  • Region: The Slice, Colonies
  • System Name: Scorath system.
  • System Features:
    • The Scorath primary: A single orange star. Its settled inner system contains Scorath and its neighboring ore world, Kurezan.
    • Scorath: The system's inhabited industrial world, with breathable air, cold seas, and one large settled landmass. It turns in roughly 26 standard hours and completes an orbit in roughly 330 standard days. Its main starport at Kanzara receives ore from Kurezan and ships finished metal and machinery beyond the system.
    • Kurezan: A smaller, cold and dry red planet on an orbit beyond Scorath. Iron-bearing dust colors its exposed plains, while surveyed basins and upland cuts contain concentrated ore worth extracting. Pressurized mine compounds and orbital loading facilities support a mixture of permanent staff and rotating crews. The crown holds the most abundant deposits as reserves; domain houses work other sites under charter. Concentrate travels to Scorath for refining and fabrication, and ships return with machinery, provisions, replacement parts, and personnel.
    • Kurezan's ring: A narrow, broken band of rocky debris encircles the red planet. Surveys attribute it to the disruption of an older satellite. Its gaps and denser arcs are charted for approaching freighters. Some fragments have been examined by prospectors, but surface deposits provide the system's regular ore supply.
  • Location: A separate system in Commenor’s map hex, reached by a minor spur off the main trade routes: Commenor.
  • Major Imports: From Kurezan, mineral concentrate and other common ore for Scorath's foundries. From beyond the system, precision controls, specialized machine tools, reactor components, medical supplies, select alloying materials, and foodstuffs that local farms cannot reliably grow.
  • Major Exports: Refined industrial metals, armor plate, structural sections, blast-door assemblies, vehicle frames, conventional armaments, and rugged mining and freight equipment. Many shipments leave as components for assembly elsewhere rather than completed vessels or advanced systems.
  • Unexploited Resources: Additional common ore lies beyond the serviced cuts of the Kurose Divide and beneath portions of Kurezan's unworked basins. Extending extraction would require new haulage routes, water and power service, secure storage, and patrol coverage. No unusual or Force-related material is known in the surveyed deposits.

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
  • Gravity: Standard.
  • Climate: Cool temperate along the western shores and predominantly dry in the settled eastern interior. Moist winds off the sea bring frequent rain to the Tairen Coast and snow to the higher Kurose Divide. Much of that moisture falls before the air reaches the eastern steppe. Southern catchments feed the Suiren Vale and its reservoirs, which sustain farming and supply the inland works through dry intervals. A storm can briefly flood an otherwise empty wash; in still weather, smoke can settle over lower industrial terraces. Scorath has abundant seawater, but reliable fresh water is unevenly distributed and must be stored and conveyed to the industrial corridor.
  • Primary Terrain: Cold seas and scattered outer shores; wet western coves; the dark, mineral-bearing Kurose Divide; dry eastern steppe; shallow northern salt flats; and the cultivated reservoir valleys of the south. Mines and spoil slopes mark the range's worked spurs, while most land beyond the rail and water network remains rural or lightly surveyed.
  • Atmosphere: Type I. The open air is breathable. Respirators are common at active mineheads, spoil sites, and heavy foundries, but industrial pollution is concentrated around those works rather than planetwide.

LOCATION INFORMATION
  • Capital City: Kanzara.
  • Planetary Features: Scorath's most developed corridor follows the eastern spurs of the Kurose Divide for several hundred kilometers. Freight rail carries ore through Kasen Basin toward Kanzara; a southern branch reaches the reservoir towns of Suiren Vale. A separate water main runs north from the vale to municipal treatment and industrial cooling systems. Small repulsor transports serve passengers and urgent freight, while bulk cargo remains on rail. Crown and house insignia appear at gates, stations, and works, but much of the land beyond the corridor is open steppe, mountain, coast, or scattered farmland.

    Kanzara Regional Map

  • Major Locations:
    • Kanzara: The capital rises in terraces from the eastern foothills of the Kurose Divide. The sovereign's court and command offices occupy the upper northern height. Covered markets, homes, schools, record halls, and charter offices fill the middle terraces; foundries and freight lifts descend toward the southwest. Deep eaves, screened courtyards, and layered roofs of tile and dark alloy shelter streets from dust and sun. Transit decks and service conduits pass between older stone courts and newer industrial frames. The starport spreads across a broad eastern bench, where open steppe gives freighters a clear approach. Its separate customs, ore, and general freight yards meet the rail interchange below the city. Kanzara houses roughly a quarter of Scorath's permanent residents.
    • The Crown Terrace: The palace complex occupies a defensible rock height above Kanzara. An enclosed audience court, gardens, residence wings, the seal archive, and the crown's command suite stand behind successive gates. A nearby tribunal hears petitions over charter disputes and registered service debts. The palace guard controls the immediate approaches; the regular garrison and the city's supplies sustain its wider defense. House Marovan held the seat from the colony's founding until its destruction during Sumire Raiza's seizure of the capital.

      The Crown Terrace
    • The Kurose Divide: A long ridge of dark volcanic stone and exposed mineral layers between the wet coast and the dry interior. Mine lifts, processing sheds, closed shafts, and survey markers lie along its eastern spurs. Highland snow and rain feed streams flowing both toward the coast and into southern catchments. The ridge's older volcanism is inactive, but unstable waste slopes and abandoned workings remain hazards. Surveyed seams beyond the serviced grades are expensive to reach and difficult to guard.
    • Yorai Cut: A rail passage through a shoulder of the Kurose Divide between Kanzara and the western works. Signal houses, maintenance sidings, and a crown watch post overlook the line. Air transport can carry urgent parts around a closure; it cannot replace the usual volume of ore and finished plate. The cut has been guarded since the freight raids that preceded the industrial compact.

      The Yorai Cut
    • Kasen Basin: The largest foundry district beyond Kanzara. Furnaces, rolling mills, ore yards, cooling tanks, repair sheds, and workers' housing occupy a broad worked basin along the rail. Several domain houses own separate plants and compete for contracts while sharing sidings and water allocations. House Akane's freight officers maintain the common schedules and ore standards. Covered walkways connect homes and shops to the works; memorial panels at older gates record crews lost in industrial accidents.

      Kasen Basin
    • Suiren Vale: Connected southern valleys below the highland catchments. Reservoirs, channels, and sheltered fields support much of Scorath's staple agriculture. Town councils maintain the local gates and negotiate deliveries to the capital and the foundries. The Suiren Headworks measures those releases before the water main runs north. Farm households retain a strong voice in allocation disputes because neither Kanzara nor Kasen can operate indefinitely without their stored water and food.

      Suiren Vale

    • The Tairen Coast: Rainward coves beneath the range's western escarpment. Fishing towns, weather stations, and small landing grounds occupy the usable shore. Rough seas, steep approaches, and poor bulk freight connections have limited heavy industry here. Local councils handle ordinary landing and shore matters under crown law, while manufactured tools and medical cargo arrive from the inland corridor.
    • The Haku Flats: Northern basins of salt crust, gravel, and intermittent brackish pools. Their surface changes after rare storms, leaving little reliable ground for settlement. Survey markers and isolated monitoring stations are more common than permanent homes.

POPULATION
  • Native Species: No known native sapient species. Low scrub and deep-rooted grasses bind undisturbed steppe soils; small grazers, burrowing scavengers, upland birds, and shoaling coastal fish occupy the regions outside the heaviest works. The southern reservoirs also attract local water life. Settlers brought their staple crops and most domestic animals from offworld.
  • Immigrated Species: Humans form the largest community. Sullustans, Duros, and smaller communities of other galactic species have established households on Scorath. Visiting freighter and Kurezan crews are not all permanent residents.
  • Population: Moderate; approximately three million permanent inhabitants. Kanzara, Kasen Basin, and the other industrial towns hold the greatest concentrations. Suiren Vale supports a substantial farming population, while the coast, outer shores, and northern flats are much more lightly settled. Kurezan's stations house smaller permanent staffs and rotating crews outside this planetary count.
  • Demographics: Human households are a clear majority, with established alien communities across the capital, foundries, farms, ports, and mine towns. Training, family ties, house contracts, and opportunity influence employment; no species is restricted to one trade. Citizens earning wages work beside members of major houses and families of lesser houses bound by inherited service obligations. Industrial droids are common in hazardous cutting, sorting, furnace handling, and freight movement, but are not counted in the population figure.
  • Primary Languages: Galactic Basic is used in courts, government records, schools, and interstellar trade. Families and crews also use languages brought from other systems. Formal court speech and workshop terminology preserve words and titles from Scorath's founding households, although public documents provide Basic equivalents.
  • Culture: House rank and practical skill both affect how people are treated on Scorath. At court, officials hear the domain houses in a set order beneath their crests. Petitioners bring stamped metal dockets, which clerks check against the crown's holoregisters before a case proceeds. A debt or disputed delivery can stay in those records for years. Foundry apprentices learn from older workers, and makers stamp the parts they inspect, so both good work and mistakes can be traced back to them. Court officials and major houses expect formal greetings and careful attention to rank. In port markets, farm towns, and late-shift crews, people use less ceremony and often judge one another by the work they do.

Memorial alcoves in some homes and engraved panels at the works preserve family names and the names of those lost on the line. The opening of southern water allotments and the annual inspection of the main freight grades bring councils, house officers, crews, and neighboring households into public ceremonies. Covered markets and garden courts also host food stalls, music, craft exhibitions, and local repulsor races. No single faith governs the planet: household observances, secular memorials, and beliefs brought by immigrant families coexist.

Kanzara's sheltered galleries, tiered roofs, and enclosed courts stand beside landing pads, tram platforms, freight lifts, and tall foundry vents. The same blend appears on a smaller scale in domain towns, where a house audience room may overlook a rail yard or a workshop court. Materials and customs vary with the damp western coast, the dusty interior, and the agricultural south.

GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
  • Government: Monarchy under a sovereign crown, presently held by Sumire Raiza after the hereditary succession of House Marovan was broken by her takeover. House Marovan financed the original settlement and held the throne from its founding until the ruling family was killed. The crown issues land and industrial charters, appoints judges, conducts external relations, commands the regular forces, and holds the most abundant Kurezan ore deposits as crown reserves.

House Akane holds a hereditary stewardship created by an older industrial compact. Its officers administer much of the freight rail, ore grading, foundry scheduling, defense production, and logistics. Its own security protects works and routes, but the regular planetary military answers to the crown. Regional domain houses govern estates and operate mines, workshops, and lesser Kurezan deposits under crown charters. They owe taxes, production quotas, and service while retaining considerable influence over their own districts. The sovereign can revise charters and audit accounts, though the steward's transport network and the houses' plant cannot simply be replaced by decree.

Lesser houses may owe inherited service debts to senior houses. A family can work down or purchase its release, and a major house may buy another's registered claim. Crown auditors maintain the recognized balances and transfers. A lesser house may petition a crown tribunal over a disputed charge or transfer; the tribunal can correct the register, but influential creditors can still pressure claimants and witnesses. Some houses keep private books that do not match the official record. The sovereign can annul an obligation for exceptional service to the throne, a rare exercise of crown authority. Sumire has retained the system during her first months in office.

  • Affiliation: Scorath is Sumire Raiza's personal dominion. Her alignment with the Sith Covenant affects its external relationships, but the planet retains its own crown, courts, charters, and diplomatic identity. It is not formally incorporated as Covenant territory.
  • Wealth: Medium. Metalworking, armaments, machinery, freight, and Kurezan ore generate regular revenue, but control of the richest claims and most profitable works is concentrated among the crown, the steward, and major houses. Wages and local trade support the industrial towns and farming valleys. The works remain dependent on imported precision controls and specialized components; a delayed shipment can stop a line even with ore in its yards.
  • Stability: Medium. Several months after the change of ruler, the port, rail, courts, and foundries operate on ordinary schedules. The former royals were not broadly disliked, and their killing has left unease among residents and domain households. Crown commanders now carry Sumire's orders; House Akane maintains its works and security under a negotiated oath. Registered visitors can use the port and public routes, while mines, military sites, and water controls have tighter access. There is no planetwide rebellion, but loyalties in court and among the houses remain unsettled.
  • Freedom & Oppression: Most residents may trade, travel, change ordinary employers, and practice private beliefs. Permits govern entry to mines, rail switches, defense facilities, and parts of the crown archive. House affiliation can open training and patronage; inherited service can also bind a family to work for a senior house across generations. Payment, credited work, tribunal review, and rare sovereign annulment provide routes out, but a powerful creditor can make them difficult to use. Organizers who interrupt freight or ore deliveries face close attention from house security and crown officers. Neither wealth nor legal standing is evenly distributed.

MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY
  • Military: The crown commands several thousand regular personnel across the garrison, orbital patrol, and palace guard. Ground units protect Kanzara, major rail approaches, water infrastructure, and selected mine sites. Patrol craft and a small number of fighters inspect system traffic and escort valuable shipments to and from Kurezan. Fixed defenses cover the capital and port approaches. These forces can secure the principal corridors but cannot watch every remote domain or contest a major invading fleet.

House Akane maintains industrial security and armed escorts for its freight and works; domain houses employ guards at their estates and chartered sites. These forces do not form a second regular army. During Sumire's seizure of the throne, defections among crown commanders gave her control of key approaches to the royal seat. The steward retained its security and logistics after swearing to her. The present command structure functions, although its loyalty is recent.

  • Technology: Galactic Standard, with particular strength in heavy smelting, armor production, conventional weapons, machinery, rail equipment, and rugged repairs. Industrial droids and automated handling systems work alongside organic crews in foundries and on Kurezan. Apprenticeships and technical schools train machinists, furnace operators, droid technicians, and freight specialists. Scorath can fabricate hull sections and vehicle frames, but it imports many advanced electronics, precision tools, and reactor components. Its industrial capacity does not amount to a major starship construction industry or a self-sufficient high technology sector.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Approximately 170 standard years ago, during the Four Hundred Year Darkness, surveyors working a minor used route through the Colonies recorded Scorath's breathable atmosphere, exposed mineral range, southern freshwater catchments, and neighboring red world. House Marovan financed a provisioned expedition from a nearby settled system and established its sovereign seat over the small colony it sponsored. Its early charters granted land and extraction rights to families willing to build mines, freight facilities, and food stores. The royal household held the crown from the founding; its court, laws, and ceremonies developed as the colony grew.

Unreliable traffic and the lingering Gulag Plague kept arrivals limited. The first camps relied on stores brought with the expedition and intermittent shipments of food and finished equipment; landing crews followed quarantine procedures. Reservoirs in Suiren Vale allowed farms to support the mine towns, while roads and then freight rail connected the eastern foothills to the worked range. The damp Tairen Coast acquired smaller shore communities, but the easier inland freight routes drew the largest investment toward Kanzara.

As interstellar traffic recovered after 835 ABY, additional workers, traders, and their families joined the colony. Foundries followed the ore and the camps became permanent towns. The disappearances of 844 ABY took skilled crews and interrupted some deliveries; gaps in house records from that period remained a source of later disputes over charters and service obligations. Scorath's industrial growth resumed without turning the system into a major galactic hub.

The industrial compact
As mines and furnaces expanded, disagreements over freight access, quotas, and protection slowed production. Raids on remote cargo and a prolonged closure at Yorai Cut exposed the limits of separate house guards. The crown granted House Akane a lasting stewardship over shared rail, ore standards, foundry scheduling, defense production, and transport logistics. The compact made the office hereditary and permitted it to keep security for the works and routes. House Marovan kept the throne, regular military command, and authority over charters and courts. Neither office could run the industrial corridor effectively without the other.

The growing houses financed training and equipment for dependent families, sometimes in exchange for service that survived the original contract holder. The crown eventually required recognized balances and transfers to be entered in an audited register and established a tribunal for disputed accounts. The register limited some abuses but also made inherited claims easier to trade. Major houses continued to keep private records, and a family contesting an entry often depended on the very networks it was challenging for work and housing.

The Kurezan charters
Later surveys of Kurezan identified concentrated ore beneath its rust-colored surface. Crown reserves took the largest deposits, while domain houses received charters for other sites. Permanent station staff, rotating crews, and industrial droids built the loading and mining network. House Akane's freight service linked those sites to Scorath's foundries without acquiring title to every seam. The red world's narrow debris ring became a charted feature of the approaches, while the valuable regular shipments came from mines on the surface.

Offworld ore increased Scorath's production of plate, machinery, and conventional arms. The starport and orbital patrol grew with the trade. The system remained modest beside the great galactic manufacturing centers: imported electronics, specialized tools, and outside buyers still set limits on what its works could produce and how long they could endure an interrupted route.

The change of sovereign
Several months ago, Sumire Raiza gained allies at court and key defections among crown commanders, then seized the royal seat through a targeted operation in Kanzara. The ruling family of House Marovan was killed. House Akane negotiated to retain its offices, works, freight administration, and industrial security, then swore an oath to Sumire. She used the established accession rites and seals to issue orders through the existing court rather than dismantling it.

Senior officials know of Sumire's Sith alignment; residents elsewhere hear differing accounts of her. Charters, water deliveries, pay rolls, and freight schedules continue under the new sovereign, who has left the inherited service law in place for now. The population had not generally wanted the former family removed. Daily life proceeds amid unease, and the crown's commanders and steward still have to prove that their bargain can hold.
