Mawite Scav Kings

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Scav Kings
  • Affiliation: Brotherhood of the Maw
  • Classification: Heavy Infantry

Description: Heavily armed and encased in power armor, Scav Kings are the ultimate evolution of Mawite marauders. They arise from the ranks of the Tarar Warbands, looting battlefields for the best gear and scrap to improve their own weapons and armor. Those who succeed in becoming Scav Kings are the warriors with the most battlefield experience and the most technological expertise, for every Scav King designs and outfits his Battleframe personally, and no two are alike. Encased in these shells of durasteel and studded with heavy weapons (each battleframe can accommodate three), Scav Kings are almost more like vehicles than infantry. In groups they are more than capable of standing toe to toe with tanks, and they annihilate most infantry with ease.
COMBAT INFORMATION:
  • Unit Size: Small
  • Unit Availability: Rare
  • Unit Experience: Elite
  • Equipment: Battleframe, Various Heavy Weapons (Concussion Rifles, Missile Launchers, Heavy Repeater Cannons), Vibroblades

Combat Function: Scav Kings are among the most elite of Mawite troops, the technological counterpart to the mystical Cirihut Warriors. They excel at close and mid range combat, fighting with equal effectiveness against infantry and vehicles thanks to the deadly array of heavy weapons mounted on their Battleframes. They may operate in small groups as tank hunters or line breakers, or they may spread out among the ranks of less-elite Mawite units, bolstering their attacks. Scav Kings are too rare and valuable to waste on leading a charge, but once the fighting is joined, they always find their way to the thick of it. When enemy elites like Jedi are deployed to the battlefield, Scav Kings are often sent to hunt down and counter these deadly foes.
Strengths:
  • Deadly Ingenuity: No one "promotes" a marauder to the rank of Scav King; it is a title that is seized, not granted. Every Scav King designs his or her own Battleframe using battlefield trophies and salvage, each with a unique balance of armor plating, scything blades, and heavy weapons. The Kings tinker with their power armor constantly, adjusting its offensive and defensive capabilities, getting the most out of their creations... and swapping out their gear based on the "where" and "who" of their battles.
  • Tough Veterans: Tradition requires that Scav Kings create their battleframe solely using salvage they have looted from the battlefield, which means that only warriors who are successful in a great many battles - and who are very good at recognizing and recovering valuable scrap - stand any chance of achieving the rank. As a result, all Scav Kings are battle-hardened warriors with tremendous experience and technological know-how, and are often cybernetically enhanced beneath their armor.
Weaknesses:
  • Non-Standard Gear: Scav Kings all design their own battleframes and wield many different weapons, so no central quartermaster can provide them with ammo and repairs. They must handle issues of supply and combat damage on their own, and may not always be able to use all of their heavy weapons at will due to ammo scarcity.
  • Slow and Steady: Scav Kings may be vehicles unto themselves in their power armor, but that doesn't mean they are fast. Their bulky battleframes mean that they cannot charge, maneuver, or retreat swiftly.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Long before the Brotherhood of the Maw established their territory in and around the Nihil Retreat, before they had any factories or farms or standardized equipment, they survived by two primary means: raiding and scavenging. Years later, with the Unknown Regions at their feet and their domain rapidly expanding, many marauders still carried on these proud traditions. Preferring to equip themselves with battlefield loot rather than the gear produced on the new Mawite industrial worlds, they touted their self-sufficiency and technical know-how as making them superior to the quartermaster-dependent soldiers of other galactic powers. Every armor plate, notched blade, and heavy weapon was a trophy they had taken, telling a story of their triumphs in war and ingenuity with machines.

The greatest of these warriors became known as Scav Kings. Encasing themselves in power armor of their own design, they became something more than mere soldiers. Where other Mawite infantry was known for fanatical unarmored charges, dying in droves to appease their bloodthirsty gods, the Scav Kings earned a reputation as flexible thinkers and cunning foes. Some tribes developed more Scav Kings than others, as these salvager-soldiers tend to clash with dark side mystics like Heathen War Shamans and Cirihut Warriors, and different marauder groups tend to favor one or the other culturally. They did not become common in any tribe, however, and still stand out as a collection of particularly impressive individuals - one that many marauders aspire to join, though few succeed.
