- Planet Name: Savoun
- Demonym: Savoundi
- Region: Inner Rim
- System Name: Savoun
- System Features: Savoun sports an orange sun, with three main planets: Erep (a frigid gas giant), Maaridor (A hot, rocky world), and Savoun (the only inhabitable planet). Savoun is orbited by a pair of twin moons named Anlar and Moreth (both uninhabitable). The order of planets is as follows: Maaridor, Savoun, Erep. The rest of the system is surrounded by a large asteroid belt made up of large chunks of ice, making traversal into the sector often tedious, explaining the isolated nature of the world. A standard day on Savoun lasts roughly 32 hours, with 354 calendar days.
- Location: (indicated by the red dot) https://ibb.co/s9DDKPMJ
- Major Imports: Weapons, Medical supplies, Technology, Mercenaries, Slaves (formerly), Tourists
- Major Exports: Wine, Produce, Grain, Clothing, Livestock, Woodworking, Quarried Stone, Gemstones, Precious metals (Note: This is referring to Gold, Silver, Platinum, etc. This does not include: durasteel, beskar, cortosis, etc.)
- Unexploited Resources: Spice (known of, but destroyed when found due to spice being associated with criminals and junkies), Tibanna Gas (due to the presence of Erep).
- Gravity: Standard
- Climate: Temperate, slightly erratic seasonal patterns.
- Primary Terrain: Grassland, Hills, Mountain, Lakes
- Atmosphere: Type I
- Capital City: Plac-don lel Fiaf (Place of the Rest, usually referred to as "Placdon" mistakenly by outsiders)
- Planetary Features: Neo-Gothic architecture, sprawling walled-in cities, rural farmsteads, dark forests, noble estates.
- Major Locations:
Plac-don lel Fiaf: The city from which the 'Lunar Regent' and his family rule over Savoun. The city is of incredible religious and historical significance to the locals, though is not well situated for an actual city, being placed on rocky, unwelcoming terrain which has been left relatively undisturbed, based on uneven elevation. Homes have been built into the sides of small hills, with cobbled stone for streets winding through the city, all leading to the large palace / cathedral from which the Lunar Regent resides in and convenes both the church and noble houses.
There are several smaller communities surrounding the city, placed with far better geographical positioning, offering temporary residence for pilgrims, yet also remaining largely self sufficient through trade.
Forest of Timbers: A collection of several forests, the term is used to simply refer to the thousands of small forests as one collective entity. The trees on Savoun are majority pine and maple trees, with the occasional redwood. Lumberjacks and riverside sawmills are not uncommon here, often clearing locations for newly sanctioned projects by local nobles, or simply selling the wood to turn a profit. The Savoundi prefer to use the natural materials of Savoun to construct their homes and make furniture, facilitating the creation of several woodworking guilds and stonemasons.
Fertile Plains: The various large stretches of flat farmland which many vineyards, livestockers, and farmers call home. Most commoners from these parts hardly even know much about the wider galaxy, or even the rest of their planet for that matter. Most are born in their small communities and die there, often surprisingly loyal to their local nobles due to strong familial ties.
- Native Species: None, nonsentient animals.
- Immigrated Species: Humans, Twi'leks, Wookies, Zygerrians, nonsentient livestock.
- Population: Moderate-Heavy (depending on area)
- Demographics: Primarily Human, and Zygerrian dominated. Twi'leks and Wookies are generally marginalized and forced to live in their own, smaller communities, often forced into either taking hard labor jobs or positions as noble servants if lucky. Humans make up the majority of the nobility and common population. The few Zygerrians present are almost all nobles or landed peoples, though are not the dominant political bloc.
- Primary Languages: Galactic Basic, Savoun Standard (a collection of thousands of different local dialects rolled into a 'basic' version for outsiders), Various local dialects.
- Culture: The Savoundi are an incredibly proud people, with family identity being crucial to social standing. Conflict between noble houses is the norm, as family ties and rivalries run deep, leading to incredible amounts of bloodshed when the planet is not united under the 'Lunar Regent' (which is hereditary until the house is deemed 'unsanctioned', typically shown via a successful overthrow or coup), a position which comes from the folk religion, in which a ruler with the blessing of the 'Lunar Gods' is allowed to arbiter planetary affairs, though true rule is supposedly given to the Gods. The planetary religion is one developed by the original human settlers, stemming from old tales of the twin moons. Anlar (female) and Moreth (Male) are viewed as both deities and lovers, peacefully lording over the world. 'Night' is viewed as an annual Passover, where the couple enforce a quiet time of peace over the world. There is to be no conflict at night, as it is viewed as a violation of their divine covenant with the Savoundi, leading to societal shunning and damnation. Plac-don lel Fiaf gets its name from a rare astronomical event, in which a twin lunar eclipse occurs and always sets behind the city, going in a perfect arc over it. There is to be no conflict the entire day on these events.
- Government: Feudal Monarchy
- Affiliation: Currently led by: https://www.starwarsrp.net/threads/tilarnus-the-first-janpelle.208222/#post-2604854
- Wealth: Medium, sporadic.
- Stability: Varying. When united? Medium-High. If not? Extremely low. Bloodshed is the norm in periods without a Lunar Regent, leading to years on end without a cease in conflict. Outsiders can be targeted simply for associating with the wrong noble house. However, when there is a Lunar Regent? They tend to keep order, so long as they can keep the nobility in check.
- Freedom & Oppression: The degree to which the amount of freedom you have on Savoun is determined both by status and location. Most common folk in the countryside only pay small taxes to their lords they've never met and mind their own business. However, citizens in large cities may find themselves forced to adhere to strict regulations set out by their local noble house. Fortunately, if there is discontent, a citizen is able to move to a different realm, forcing the nobility to at the very least provide basic necessities and uphold the law.
- Military: Mixed. There is (on paper) a single planetary military commanded by the Lunar Regent, however, this requires them to have the loyalty of the nobility to actually be effective. Noble houses often maintain their own private armies, the capacity of which depending on said house.
- Technology: Galactic Standard, though Savoun struggles to adapt to the times and accept new technology, leading to the actual presence of technology to be dependent upon the nobility in charge. Some regions are still stuck in the 'old ways', preferring 'primitive weapons' to blasters. Though, these are usually small pockets easily subsumed by their larger rivals due to their self-inflicted handicap.
OLD REPUBLIC ERA:
Savoun was discovered in 20,078 BBY by privately contracted explorers loyal to various cadet branches of nobility back in the core worlds. These cadet branches, tired of not having their own realms to lord over, decided to put together a trust fund with similarly disenfranchised nobles, promising equal opportunity for settlement for each family which signed on board and committed their wealth to the project.
Of course, once these families actually landed on the world, these promises rung hollow, leading to intense infighting among the families, as each fought for what they deemed to be 'necessary spending' of the collective fund. The worst example of this was the dumping of hundreds of thousands of credits into the creation of Plac-don lel Fiaf, which at the time was simply an unnamed settlement within poorly chosen terrain, since, the noble pushing for it viewed it as more of an excuse to build fancy looking architecture up in the rocky hills.
This controversial decision would lead to the "Bloody Struggle", war spanning roughly three decades of noble houses competing over whether or not to pull funding from the creation of the city, ultimately settled when the double lunar eclipse would occur for the first time in the history of human settlement, being interpreted as a "sign to cease conflict", transforming what was one man's art project into a ritual site of incredible significance for generations to come.
With the end of the Bloody Struggle came the establishment of the "Lunar Regent" (often simply referred to as: "King of Savoun" to avoid confusion among outsiders), which would be deemed a hereditary title to avoid continual struggles for power whenever the previous regent died.
Savoun would largely remain isolated from the larger Galactic community due to how little it had to offer. Though due to their stubborn pride, the Savoundi assume themselves to be among the greatest civilizations in the Galaxy. On paper, they would be a member of the Republic, though, didn't particularly care all too much about it.
There would be the odd occasion where Sith factions invaded Savoun, or times where the Jedi would come to enforce galactic law. Both would breed resentment among the nobility and commoners that force users cared not for their traditions, seeking only to exploit the Savoundi for their own personal gain. This would generally push Savoun towards an even more isolationist stance, using their voice in the Senate to advocate for more planetary autonomy and respect for local customs.
HIGH REPUBLIC ERA:
Despite being on paper required to ban the practice... slavery would become an unfortunate fact of life on Savoun, to the point that it was one of the largest markets for the Zygerrian Slave Empire, and even for thousands of years after its collapse, Zygerrians would continue trafficking Wookies and Twi'leks to the planet to exploit the market.
This would come to an end however with the rule of a Lunar Regent by the name of Makus Janpelle, a heavily pro-Republic and pro-Jedi noble who would lobby heavily for continued crackdowns against both galactic slavery and organized crime. Makus would issue a heavily controversial (among the noble population) decree, ordering that slavery was to be outlawed. This would be popular among the commoners, who feared having their jobs replaced by the mass influx of slave labor over many prior generations.
After kick-starting a planetary civil war, Makus would succeed in gaining Jedi intervention, leading to the abolition of slavery and slow process of integration of the imported alien populations. Makus would become a popular folk legend and icon of Savoundi heroism, ushering in the ruling planetary dynasty.
THE CLONE WARS:
With Republic loyalties among House Janpelle, Savoun would be strong armed into sticking with the Republic, though, significant sympathies for the CIS were common among rival noble houses and the commoner class. Savoun would not see any direct fighting in the war, though, would contribute a high number of volunteer forces, as nobles sought to earn personal and familial honor by fighting and dying for the Republic.
As the Republic continued its slow decay, the ruling patriarch of the Janpelle dynasty, Eltartch, would attempt to steer support towards neutrality, believing Savoun was loyal only to the old idea of the Republic, not the newly emerging police state. Unfortunately though, Eltartch would be assassinated, replaced with his son, Ridoch, an authoritarian madman and fanatical loyalist.
AGE OF THE EMPIRE / GALACTIC CIVIL WAR:
It would come as no surprise that Ridoch would align so closely with the Galactic Empire, and with him carrying the Janpelle name, the people were behind him... initially. That was, until the Empire did what it does best: Impose itself without regard for culture. Ridoch didn't understand subtlety, however, and instead blindly parroted whatever the Moff assigned to the sector told him to say in exchange for continued payment from the Empire.
This would lead to an uprising which'd force Ridoch to abdicate the throne in the midst of the Galactic Civil War, but instead of replacing him with his son, a 'Second Bloody Struggle' was waged to determine who the next ruling house should be, preventing Savoun from contributing to the GCW in any meaningful capacity, though largely still held Rebel sympathies... until it sank in just how many people were dying for the sake of finding a new dynasty.
Eventually, the Markot dynasty would prevail... also known as the 'Pretender-Dynasty', generally remembered for their incredible incompetence and blind faith in the New Republic. The Markots wouldn't last long, and in an orchestrated coup planned by several formerly Imperial-aligned noble houses, Ridoch's son Wesim was put on the throne.
Wesim would prove to be the youngest leader in the planet's history (for the time), inheriting the throne just at age 19, yet, would prove surprisingly competent and politically versed. He would strengthen the power of the Lunar Regency, giving himself the ability to make decisive arbitrations not just for conflicts between noble houses, but also foreign policy decisions and reforms, which had previously been left up to a vote or literal star-sign readings by the church. This would lead to him becoming unpopular with the institutions, yet, he would be beloved by the people as he poured millions of credits into development across the world, cementing the Janpelle dynasty in place for generations to come.
However, he would die before his dream of full centralization could be achieved, the exact cause of which being unknown, though foul play was confirmed not to be the case.
902 ABY:
Up to the modern day, Savoun has been ruled by the Janpelle dynasty, bringing us to the time of its current leadership: TIlarnus Janpelle. Prior to his ascension to the throne, his father Verus would rule, having his first son Ronus, who would naturally take the throne first. Eventually, Ronus' son, Erius, would take the throne at 18, becoming the official youngest ruler in planetary history, until his untimely death months later due to a terminal illness.
To his shock, Tilarnus would be called to return home (having spent the last roughly 40 years off world with only the occasional visit), leading to what is essentially an outsider ruling over the planet today.
Tilarnus has made an effort to revive old Imperial era nostalgia. And despite knowing very little about his own culture, has become popular enough to successfully win over the people after making a heart-wrenching speech at his Nephew's funeral.
Now, this pretentious world finds itself at the precipice of becoming something far worse, seeking to expand its influence beyond the clusters of thick ice that've kept it isolated for so long.
