Rayne sat at the wheel of her walker with a dead-pan expression. It was abysmally hot, so much so that she felt discomfort even within her air-conditioned vehicle. Of course, there was very good reason for being on Jakku, what with the abundance of scrap that she could salvage. It was a gold mine of untapped resources, and that alone was enough of an investment to drive anyone to brave the blistering heat of the desert. There was financial gain to be had all around, even in stuff as simple as scrap metal. That wasn't the young woman's only reason for being here, however.

A line of other walkers would come into view, towering vehicles that had full on cranes and other riggings to haul scrap across the desert. Scavenger caravans were common on less developed worlds of the sort, ones with a great deal of open space and plenty of tech left to rust. Linking up with a caravan could have all kinds of economic benefits, especially if you had valuable scrap to sell or trade.

Rayne, of course, had plenty. She may have had less storage, but she always made sure to snag the highest quality scrap that the wastelands and junkyards of the galaxy had to offer. Pretty soon she'd want to start engineering new tech to sell, but for now this was a pretty decent way to get by as well. While it certainly wasn't as glamorous as being set up as a corner-store engineer, it was one way to get food on the table. Rayne needed to eat. She was a not-quite-growing young woman after all, one who very much was capable of starving. Her heart flitted with excitement as she approached the caravan, her mind racing with the excitement of what the day might bring. Needless to say, the Twi'lek was feeling rather lucky today.

The scrapper would pull up into the line, set her walker on auto pilot, and open the side door of her vehicle. She was ready to engage in the free market of barter. It was only a matter of waiting for someone to come looking for tech...

OOC: Hey! This is a lil character-driven thread more focused on interaction. Feel free to hop in if you're looking for parts or come sell your own. Just keep fighting to a minimum. Thanks!

Jakku sucks…

These were the two words that played on repeat within the dense skull of Diodoros. He’d been stuck on the sandy planet for the last few weeks because of a job that went terribly wrong for him. He completed the job fortunately but was considered KIA by his client so they never went searching for him. His captures failed multiple times to kill him. Fed up with his durability they left him for dead within the endless dunes of Jakku hoping it would do him in. Either by dehydration, starvation or the elements.

Needless to say it did not and now along with leaving the planet Diodoros had the secondary goal of turning those responsible for his current situation into red paste. He would have almost perished if it wasn’t for the timely arrival of some desperate Jawas. Who saved and fed the golden man in exchange for acting as temporary hired muscle for their caravan until they reached Blowback Town and he could finally depart.

The vehicle the Jawa clan used for themselves was a weird hodgepodge of old imperial tech. Even after hundreds of years scrap like that was still rather plentiful here on Jakku. Currently they were among a bunch of other nomad scavengers. All together bartering, trading and selling to one another. The golden man looked painfully out of place among the diminutive hooded people he kept close to. Towering over them like some kind of giant as they went around and cycled back to different vendors constantly on the hunt for getting the best deal. Eventually though something managed to catch Diodoros’s eyes. A new arrival in a much smaller vehicle with a vibrant design. Were they a trader too? Or some mere traveler?

Curious, Diodoros parted with the group of chatty Jawas and made his way over to see what he might be able to find. Looking up and seeing someone at the side door of the unique walker. A lemon colored Twi’lek. He didn’t know why but she seemed familiar. He’d seen plenty of lekku headed people before, perhaps it was the similar skin tone they both shared. “Hello… are you selling anything?” Even if there wasn’t anything useful for him to purchase from her he always loved trophies and mementos. He could always use another trinket to remind himself of how much of a badass he is for surviving such a harsh world.

However, eventually there was some loud complaining from behind him. Looking back to see a group of angry Jawas peeved over Diodoros just leaving them without saying anything. Pointing and shouting up at him before one of them noticed the twi’lek’s traveling shop. Suddenly on a dime the group of furious Jawas became a group of curious Jawas that wanted to see what the Twi’lek woman might be selling.

“Hello… are you selling anything?”

Rayne was rather taken aback by the appearance of a golden man. He was hardly dressed for the weather, and rather notably a freak of nature. The young woman couldn't help but burn up with embarrassment upon the stranger's arrival to her walker. Thankfully a small troupe of Jawas emerged to berate the man, which gave her some time to recompose herself. They were curious about what she was selling as well.

"All scrap is for sale," Rayne relayed, speaking through a vocoder that hung from the ceiling of her walker. "I have ship components, sensor jammers, fusion coils. Anything that you may need to enhance your equipment."

Although this fellow didn't seem like one for utilizing tech. He seemed rather... brutish. Rayne lifted her hand to wipe away a bead of sweat that had formed on her brow before mustering as polite of a smile as she could.

She just needed them to buy. It really didn't matter what they did with the tech.

Was Diodoros a freak of nature? He wouldn’t think so. Does nature get freaked out by him? Most certainly. He noticed the twi’lek seemed a little caught off guard by him. He figured that must’ve been because she might not have been expecting to get any potential buyers, at least not this soon. The golden man was a little confused why she didn’t reply with her words, and instead seemed to answer his question through a speaker he hadn’t noticed before.

He wondered for a moment why she didn’t speak. Was she mute? Was it by choice or circumstance? Diodoros wasn’t sure but didn’t really feel like it mattered enough to ask if she could still communicate. The Jawas eagerly looked through to see what product the yellow merchant had for sale.

Diodoros also looked around some as well. But there was no real point in him doing so. He just didn’t want to look as clueless as he was unlike the Jawas who seem to know exactly what they wanted. “Ummm…” He brought a hand up to scratch the back of his head as he spoke. “You mentioned things to enhance equipment right? Do you have anything that might help with vibro weapons?” Those were a favorite for the mercenary.

“You mentioned things to enhance equipment right? Do you have anything that might help with vibro weapons?”

"Of course," Rayne nodded. "I have experience enhancing vibro weapons. What are you looking for? Plasma core, flame emitter, blade stall..."

She paused, frowning as she tilted her head. No, this guy probably didn't understand what any of that meant. There was probably a simpler way to explain what she was saying that the big guy would understand. The Twi'lek took a moment to rack her brain around the problem, brushing her Lekku over her shoulder as she pondered what to say. Eventually an answer came to her, and the young scrapper quickly recomposed herself. This guy probably wanted flashy tech, so that was exactly what she was going to give him. Practicality was fine, but she assumed the wow factor was gonna be key here.

"Do you want it to set on fire?"

The yellow twi’lek would be right in her internal assessment of Diodoros. He in fact, did not really know what she was talking about. One could almost quite literally see the digitally spoken words travel through one ear and out the other as the golden man blinked a few times.

Fortunately the scrapper was smart enough to recognize that Diodoros wasn’t smart enough. So when she asked her next question he gave her a smile and nodded eagerly. “Yeah that sounds pretty cool actually.” Fire was something he’d leveraged as a weapon in the past. It’s easy to recklessly use a flamethrower against your enemies when it’s of little consequence to yourself.

The obtuse warrior thought back some to a certain jedi that he’d run into prior. A certain Valery Noble Valery Noble who had an amethyst plasma blade. When he saw it in action he felt like it was a little underwhelming. Just cleaving through things and cauterizing the wounds. It wasn’t as flashy as he’d like. The Jedi’s ‘beam katana’ would make for a cool trophy though, even if he thought the weapon itself was a little boring in his eyes. “How do you add fire to a vibroweapon?” He asked as if he'd be able to understand the answer to his own question.
