OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: To create a new GenPal for the ‘GenPals Originals’ line

  • Image Credit: Created by Zebrafeet, GenPals Logos created by me.

  • Canon: N/A

  • Links: Created by GenPals
GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Name: SalaFrander ™ (‘Minimus’ and ‘Maximus’ available, see below)

  • Designation: Non-Sentient

  • Homeworld: N/A, Engineered Species

  • Language: N/A

  • Average Lifespan: 9-13 years

  • Estimated Population: Scattered (Manufactured)

  • Description: Small, smooth skinned, warm blooded reptiles, SalaFranders are a chimera of traits from a number of different sources as well as custom genetic engineering. Two lines of SalaFranders are available (see below) depending on an individual's needs.

PHYSICAL INFORMATION

  • Breathes: Type 1

  • Average height of adults: 4cm

  • Average length of adults: 12cm

  • Skin color: Shades of red, orange, yellow and pink, though turning dull when hungry, uncomfortable, or upset.

  • Hair color: N/A

  • Distinctions: Very small, warm blooded reptiles. Their scales are tiny and supple, making them soft to the touch. Textured pads on their feet, rather than claws, allow them to climb around without damaging furniture or your shirt. The long tail is strong (for their size) and prehensile, allowing them to grip things with it to steady themselves, hang, or pull something small and desirable toward it.

  • Races: SalaFrander ‘Minimus’ ™ and SalaFrander ‘Maximus’ ™

  • Strengths:
(+)Adorable: Come on, look at it. It’s cute af.
(+)Trainable: SalaFranders ™ are clever and can learn a variety of simple commands and even tricks.
(+)Force Affecting: SalaFranders ™ have a minor effect on the Force in their general area (around a 2m diameter). SalaFrander ‘Minimus’ ™ minimizes the Force, making the utilization of it and the effects of it in that area more difficult and muted than it would otherwise be. It does not block the Force from being used, simply makes it more difficult with a lower effect than intended. (For example, a knight might be confused as to how the seemingly simple shop keep is resisting their Suggestion, or if in the field itself, find it twice as difficult to lift an chair that should float toward them with ease.) SalaFrander ‘Maximus’ ™ on the other hand enhances the ease and effect of Force powers used in that space. (For example, an acolyte might find it surprisingly easy to toss a heavy desk like a pebble, or a knight may find it easier to resist the mental predations of a more powerful Force User). These effects will not make an acolyte equal a lord, nor will they dampen the Force entirely. The fields of a ‘Minimus’ and a ‘Maximus’ will cancel each other out if put close enough for their fields to overlap. Multiple SalaFranders ™ of the same line will increase the field area a small amount, but do not have the same building upon the field quality to the same extent of the native Ysalamiri. The largest field created in this way measured a scant 4m across and involved a tank with hundreds of the creatures in it, and thus, not particularly effective. Multiple in the same space have no effect on the strength of the field.

  • Weaknesses:
(-)Non-Combat: These are pets! Geez what’s wrong with you. You should be ashamed.
(-)Smol: Like, itty bitty. Easy to lose, easy to step on. They should be handled with care and consideration.
(-)Vornskr Incompatible: Whether it is a natural or the GenPals Pocket Vornskr ™, SalaFranders ™ and Vornskr do not mix- even with the relatively small amount of Ysalamiri genetics, Vornskrs see SalaFranders ™ as a favored snack and will try relentlessly to eat them.
(-)Sterile: Like all GenPals animals, SalaFranders ™ are sterile to discourage irresponsible breeding.
(-)Proprietary: Like all GenPals animals, SalaFranders ™ require GenPal brand food to remain healthy and within warranty. GenPals animals fed non-branded food will eventually weaken and possibly die, as they are engineered with certain nutrition needs only their proprietary blend contains in the right ratios.

CULTURE

  • Diet: GenPals Brand SalaFrander Chow. Can be supplemented with GenPals Brand Reptile treats to treat your new best friend! SalaFrander ™ should not be fed off brand food or it will void their warranty.

  • Communication: Extensive body language, the occasional squeak or trill.

  • Technology level: N/A

  • Religion/Beliefs: N/A

  • General behavior: SalaFranders ™ are cheeky, affectionate and playful. Equally happy to cuddle in your pocket or against your neck or to play simple games like ‘catch my fingers!’ and do tricks for praise. SalaFranders ™ are highly motivated by positive reinforcement (praise, treats) and will strive to please their owners, but may sulk if scolded (a sad SalaFrander ™ is a sad thing indeed, with limp tail, large eyes and a dulling of their scales). Due to their small size, lack of claws and teeth and general disposition, there is little trouble a bored SalaFrander ™ can get into. The largest risk is them getting into a space too small for them to be easily extracted from and refusing to come out or being unable to turn around again (they are not particularly adept at walking backward for some reason). Because of this, for their safety, an unattended SalaFrander ™ should be given a secure tank or enclosure to call home when not interacting with their owner. Special SalaFrander ™ Habitats, specially made with your pet’s health and happiness in mind, are available for purchase with all SalaFrander ™ orders.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
After contracting with the Sith Empire to help clear out the Vornskr and Ysalamiri overpopulation on Navrozh, GenPals kept several samples of each. At the time, there was no desire to attempt to create a creature directly from Ysalamiri genetics. But the combination of that, along with several other samples as a side project by one of the researchers (a system strongly encouraged by the CEO) bore fruit. The tiny reptiles were cheeky and playful, while also offering clear affection to those who handled them gently. Pleasant to the touch and interaction, they were immediately green-lit for further experimentation and sale. The original SalaFrander ™ eventually became the ‘Minimus’ line, after marketing decided that offering it alone would potentially cut into their Force User market too much, and requested the creation of the ‘Maximus’ line to counter balance that.

We have had a couple 'ysalamir' like creatures pass through the Codex, but I feel like this is one of the most reasonable ones I have encountered.

One thing- can you clarify a bit with two examples the extent of these creatures on force usage? Just so people have a good reference for if they buy one.
