ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • Unlike most fighters the Saber-droid is equipped with a minelayer, though with only 2 mines, this does allow it an advantage when in dogfights. As it permits it to actively enter highly dangerous zones but still pose a threat by releasing the mines where it goes. Or to at least pose some threat to heavier ships that would not be as easily damaged by its laser cannons.
  • Uses a successful droid brain that allows it to act and react faster than most organics, and think mostly for itself with the ability to prioritize objectives, calculate trajectories, and guess at enemy movements in order to prepare more efficiently. This brain also is able to communicate information back and forth through encrypted comms for better awareness and management of superiors. When cut off from communications, it can attack independently based on who it knows is an ally and who has targeted them.
STRENGTHS
  • More maneuverable than most of its size
  • Due to being relatively small for a fighter it has an advantage when it comes to evasion,
  • Since it uses a droid brain instead of a cockpit, it has no need for any life support or interface systems and can simply use the droid brain, sensors, and direct communication to its fleet.
  • Minelayer can act as a surprise to those expecting only a fighter.
  • Good droid brain
WEAKNESSES
  • Relatively few mines and missiles available, even all combined going up only to 10. This requires them to rely heavily on their laser cannons
  • Very little armoring puts it in danger of any hits it takes being all that’s necessary to take it down.
  • Due to the nature of the mines, a saberdroid is actually in danger of blowing itself up if it doesn’t get out of the chosen area in time.
  • The mines can actually be detonated by an enemy fighter if a hit were placed in the right spot, though this is unlikely, it means there’s always a risk that a single light laser cannon could destroy the saber-droid with a stray hit.
  • Lack of a hyperdrive means it requires a location for docking in order to be transported.
DESCRIPTION
The Saberdroid star fighter, or SF-1, is a model designed to attempt to mildly sabotage traditional fighter tactics without the cost of actual troops. They provide small maneuverable, fighters that work well with a droid brain in place of an organic occupant to commit to maneuvers most organics would have more physical trouble keeping up with. In addition, the saberdroid is equipped with a minelayer allowing it to drop space mines at points considered vital, whether that be by larger ships and act as a minor bomber or when being chased by a group of fighters. This method allows the saberdroid to operate in a manner slightly out of the norm of most fighters. Thanks to an efficient droid brain, it is able to prioritize objectives and operate somewhat independently if it has sufficient information, and thus could potentially find split-second chances where it knows when to release a mine or set a missile loose. This brain also allows greater communication of battles, acting almost as an active-battle scout for command ships as they give live information when comms aren’t interrupted, and get information from the command ship so that they can in turn be where they need to be the most.
