Rusty's Custom Firearms and Cutlery

Rusty

Purveyor of Fine Weaponry
Okay, so I have a thing for creating unique weapons. My knowledge of both Star Wars and real world weaponry is best described as encyclopedic, and I'm always looking for new and interesting ways to turn targets into ash on the wind. Well, I'm thinking about turning that into a business.

The purpose of this thread is to gauge interest in a business that creates one-off custom weapons for whatever specialized missions you've got on your plate. Want a blaster that can punch through a small asteroid? How about a cannon that shoots lightsaber sabot rounds, or a slingshot for launching wookiees armed with hornet nests at your foes? The limit is your imagination and your budget.

Would anyone be interested if I got this thing up and running?

I've never needed anything expect a disruptor rifle since 2010. But... If you could dazzle us with an example or two of your "specialty"? I think we could gauge some interest. Sh'maybe. Hook you up with a menu on the Marketplace. Mmhmm. :D :p

Sounds like you know your math. So your slug weapons would be golden. And I noticed you matched your gas chamber 500 to your ammo box 500. Nice touch. You definitely seem to have this down to a fine science. I'd love to see more crazy creations from you. Maybe some of these guys will you throw you a challenge one day. :D

Cheers!

Feel free to bring that disruptor by, [member="Jay Scott Clark"]

New trigger assembly, improved optics, mp3 compatibility, and an easy-adjust output selector so you can choose whether you want your targets lightly toasted or crispy critters on the fly are just a few of the things we can do to make it the sing like new.

[member="Rusty"] I used to have a pretty sword on another site for this character. It was one of the noble blastblades with instead of energy a maser. If you could make something like that I'd help out however needed to get it done. Always love custom gear.

I have a few major changes. The first is a cryogenic cooling jacket for the barrel that will not only reduce wear and tear from thermal damage over time, but will allow for better ensurance under sustained firing conditions as well.

Secondly, I'd like to add a second capacitor. This second capacitor can be charged independently of the first, which will allow you to engage targets with normal bursts as much as you like, while retaining the the ability to trigger a full powered burst without the usual charge time. To access the secondary capacitor, we'll install a dual-stage trigger. Squeeze as you normally would for normal fire, but slide your finger down towards the bottom to release the safety for the second stage. You'll note the trigger will travel back further, bypassing the first and during the second. Under extreme duress, I'm pretty sure I can rig a way to have each capacitor fire full sized blasts in staggered bursts by alternating trigger stages and letting them charge while the other is firing. That'll give you one full powered shot every three seconds.

Shall I keep going, [member="Karen Roberts"] ?

Blastswords are pretty easy to make. Bring me a charric once I get the shop set up and I'll use the guts out of it for the blastsword. After that, it's just a matter of hitting the right blend of style and functionality.

In that case, I'm thinking something similar to a scholar's sword:

Small, lightweight, designed for self defense more than prolonged battlefield action, the scholar's sword was none the less an elegant weapon and absolutely deadly in the right hands.

You're a big fella. How about I strip a cannon off an AT-ST (or whatever the local equivalent is) and make it work as a handheld? Maybe a Gatling-style disruptor, or something along the lines of my Gertrude. It you can kill a few mandos and bring me their armor, I've got some ideas on beskar-tipped sabot rounds that ought to punch through anything this side of a Celestial.

Honestly, the sky's the limit. So long as the FJs sign off on it, I can make whatever you want. I think my business model will, at first, require the customer to bring in certain parts that I don't know how to get around here, but that can be part of the fun of it.

I like the cooling jacket idea but it's a frivolous payoff for the added weight. I do barrel replacements and maintenance off the battlefield anyway, and only yearly. The gun produces zero recoil so I don't need a heavy tip to reduce muzzle rise either. Good thinking though. You get props for that one. - (Pass)

The damage range is actually a META concern for PvP. Full power shots cause insta-kills and can often be seen as a gib/OP when 2v1. However, they do work wonders against Legendary Armor such as Phrik and Beskar. If I actually needed more DPS for PvP, that would be an amazing idea to sub in the Factory. Alternating capacitors. Clever. - (Pass)

Color me impressed. What else ya got? :D

If you're satisfied with the power output, everything else is just a matter of improving accuracy and ergonimics. Precision trigger and improved optics are my first two thoughts. That's pretty standard, however. What I'm thinking might really come in handy is a holographic muzzle shroud. Wouldn't add more than a few grams to the weapon, and wouldn't do anything to make it stealthy. What it would do is protect the shooter from the intense light thrown off by the thing. Disruptors are painfully bright even during the day, and I'd hate to fire a carbine like this at night, or in a dark room. The muzzle shroud wouldn't eliminate the beam's visibility entirely, but it would change it from a straight line of starlight to something like a really reflective handrail from the shooter's perspective. That might seem superfluous if you have a helmet, but there are times when you might have to shoot it without.

[member="Rusty"] ohh that is a pretty blade, I like it. Can't wait to see the shop
I'm looking forward to working on it.

That sounds fun, perhaps we should start with the blaster pistol with AT-TE grade weapons. Would it be required to do a dev thread for that or not?

[member="Rusty"]
While I'm pretty sure we can get a beam on that scale to fire out of a pistol, it would be a one shot deal and too expensive to be practical. Having said that, I might be able to cram that level of power into a grenade. Fire it from the launcher of your choice, and when it hits, all hell breaks loose. Each grenade will basically be its own self contained blaster, with enough power to mimic the damage done by the cannon on an AT-TE.

Here's a challenge for ya; an armor that can adapt to most shapeshifting changes that this character goes through on a daily basis, but keeps both its functionality and "humanoid" base form when the character reverts back to their original shape. Not looking to have a great armor rating, just something that can catch a blaster bolt or two without falling apart.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, because this has been an awesome read so far. :D

I'm thinking we can use some sort of non Newtonian fluid as a base. Much like the corn starch and water mixture everyone played with as kids, it would remain fluid and flexible under normal conditions, but would harden when something hits it. That would offer some protection from impact. Meanwhile, we can intersperse ceramic particles throughout the solution to disperse the heat of a blaster bolt, and the fluid itself would likely be something that can effectively insulate you as well. I'll have to do some more research for actual development, but that should give you an idea.

For the shape of the armor, I recommend segmented plates, not unlike a Mandalorian's armor. It'll be light protection that prioritizes vital areas over places best described as "tis but a flesh wound" territory. Some sort of elastic suspension system will allow them to shift depending on size. There will be absolute limits on how much you can shift in size before you break it or slide out, but that will give versatile protection for most anything in the humanoid range.

Does it sound like I'm heading in the right direction, [member="Laguz Vald"] ?
