SERIS VELMORA

Location: Khomm Orbit — Approach to the Automated Cloning Installations

Well, that certainly sounded promising. Seris Velmora leaned forward as the transport's communications system relayed reports from the Sith forces already aboard the cloning installation. Blaster fire, casualties, increasingly dangerous genetically engineered soldiers, and an advance that was proving considerably more troublesome than the initial projections had suggested. In other words, exactly the sort of excitement she had been hoping for.

"Oh, they've already started without me!" There was genuine disappointment in her voice, though it was quickly replaced by a delighted smile. The tactical display identified a boarding force under the command of Darth Strosius. His troops had penetrated the installation and were fighting their way through its defenders, securing sections for engineering personnel to examine and salvage whatever technology might prove useful.

Seris studied the available information. The reports confirmed something she had suspected during the approach. The defenders weren't simply growing more numerous. They were becoming progressively more dangerous the deeper the Sith advanced. That was interesting. Very interesting.

A facility supposedly designed to manufacture the ultimate weapon against the Sith, yet its defenders appeared arranged almost as though they were inviting their enemies to test themselves against successive generations of increasingly capable opponents. She tapped a gloved finger against the display. "You're not just trying to keep us out, are you?" The question was directed toward the installation itself. Naturally, it offered no answer. "How rude."

She straightened as the transport began maneuvering toward an accessible docking position. It would have been easy enough to order the pilot to find an untouched section of the facility and begin an independent assault. There was certainly something appealing about being the first to uncover whatever secrets lay behind those armored bulkheads.

But that would also mean entering without the benefit of information already gathered by the Sith who had gone before her.

Darth Reign had been rather clear about the value of independent thought. And independent thought did not necessarily mean doing everything alone. Sometimes the cleverest thing one could do was allow someone else to discover where the traps were. Preferably before stepping into them oneself. Seris grinned at the thought. "Let's see if our friends are willing to share their discoveries."

She opened a communications channel directed toward Strosius's forces. "Darth Strosius, this is Seris Velmora. Apprentice to Darth Reign. I'm approaching the installation and understand you've already made yourselves quite unpopular with the locals." Her tone was cheerful, almost conversational, despite the distant sounds of battle occasionally filtering through the tactical frequencies. "I was hoping to join the festivities. I understand the defenders become increasingly unpleasant the farther you go, and I'd be very interested in seeing what makes them so special."

She paused briefly, considering how best to phrase her next words. "More importantly, I'd like to know whether you've noticed any particular pattern in their behavior. It seems rather convenient that they keep presenting stronger opponents instead of simply throwing everything they have at us." Her smile turned mischievous. "Of course, if you have a troublesome section that needs clearing, I'd be happy to make myself useful." She left the channel open for a response.

The transport settled into position with a muted metallic vibration, its docking systems beginning their connection procedures. Seris rose from her seat and rolled her shoulders, feeling the familiar anticipation gathering beneath her skin. Finally. She had spent enough time staring at tactical displays and listening to people discuss the dangers of the installation. There was only so much satisfaction to be found in imagining what waited beyond the airlock. She wanted to see it. Preferably up close.

Her hand brushed the lightsaber at her hip as she checked its fastening one final time. She had no intention of drawing it prematurely, though the temptation was considerable. A nearby crewman reviewed the environmental readings. "Atmospheric integrity is holding at the docking interface. Internal temperatures remain significantly below standard habitation levels. We recommend maintaining thermal protection until the environmental systems can be secured."

Seris wrinkled her nose. "Wonderful. Murderous clones and freezing temperatures. Someone really ought to teach these people how to entertain guests." She adjusted the thermal lining beneath her combat attire, then glanced toward the sealed hatch. There was something almost amusing about the contrast between her expectations and the reality of the mission. She had imagined fighting monsters. Instead, she was being asked to consider environmental hazards, tactical patterns, engineering teams, and the possibility that the enemy might be deliberately manipulating the Sith advance.

It was all terribly complicated. And, she had to admit, rather fascinating. Perhaps that was part of what her master had been trying to teach her. Power was wonderful. The ability to impose one's will upon an enemy was exhilarating. But recognizing what an enemy wanted, and then refusing to give it to them, could be every bit as satisfying.

She wasn't entirely convinced it would be as much fun as cutting something in half. But she was willing to experiment. The docking indicators shifted to green. Seris approached the airlock, stopping just short of the threshold while the crew completed their security checks. She could hear the faint mechanical hum of the installation beyond, accompanied by distant vibrations that might have been heavy machinery or the reverberations of combat. Her smile returned. "All right, then. Let's see what sort of trouble everyone has gotten themselves into."

She waited for confirmation of the route to Strosius's secured position, unwilling to blunder into an active firing lane simply because she was eager to begin. That much restraint, at least, she could manage. For now. Whatever the Khommites had created within their frozen laboratories, Seris intended to discover its secrets. And if the opportunity arose to test herself against one of their supposedly superior warriors? Well. She certainly wasn't going to complain.

Varin’s hand shot forth snatching up one of the soldiers that had fired into his chest piece. The blaster bolts leaving only a slight glowing ring upon the impact marks. Quickly the dropped their rifle reaching up to Varin’s hand to try and unclasp his grip.

He slowly lifted the soldier as they screamed in pain, their skull cracking under his grip through the helmet they wore. The helmet shattering beneath the force of his grip revealing a number on the man's forehead. His grip quickly shifted so he now held the throat. Their struggled breaths as he slowly turned their head. Studying the facial structure, looking for any signs of genetic tampering besides the tattoo on the forehead.

The number 57. He looked behind him at the carnage he had left from prior levels. Opening doorways and routes for others to accompany him as he drew nearer to the bottom. Now slowing his pace so that any could catch up.

His helm picked up the channel that was shared between Lord Strosius and Seris as well as another voice he was not quite familiar with.

“Doors are open down to level fifty seven. Backup would be encouraged before nearing the lower levels.”

The struggling experiment within his grasp could be heard rasping in his grip as Varin spoke.

“The experiments seem to have a countdown upon their brows.”

His grip flexed and a sharp crack could be heard before the body fell limp. His hand shifted to the side tossing the body away.

“I have made sure to leave some with significant tissue for sampling. Get it while it lasts.”

A small blade flicked from his bracer as he then cut a piece of meat from the brow, adding it to a small vial filled with liquid. Something to save for later. Perhaps something for the future.

His bracer then pinged his location to any Sith nearby.

A slow stretch there as Mercy leaned back against the viewport.

"Oh? And who do you believe your Empress' heart belongs to?" Mercy wondered if this was idle gossip or something more than that. You never knew with courtiers and the court proper. Those tongues could waggle for all their worth, spilling this secret or that. Who did they believe that the Empress of the Core was enamored with now?

She chuckled softly.

"Merely a mistress?" Eyes gleamed there. "Do you consider that a downgrade? From chairwoman to my lover?" In truth Mercy was simply enjoying teasing the corporate executive.

She was so unflappable, always in control, always unworried.

Mercy wondered what it would take to poke through that armor of hers.

It seemed that Astra had an evolution of her own. If that happened on Abregado-rae or beyond, Mercy didn't know. But she seemed to understand exactly what Mercy was putting down now.

"I am glad you are coming around to my way of thinking, darling. I know you were rather grumpy with Humbarine. But... out with the old, in with the new. You will always win, as long as I am around to supply you with your sustenance. I remember my friends, as long as they remember me, and I make sure they know just how generous I can be."

A wicked smile appeared.

"How is Empress' Peace fairing anyway?"

Another reminder how generous Mercy was with her friends. Giving Astra and Leontis a charter to oversee the world and its only remaining city. Something other corporations would salivate for.

Astra paused just to smile in the face of Mercy's question. "Death." Her sisterly bond with Srina Talon enveloped Mercy, but it wasn't that which sustained the woman. She would go mad with rage if the other Empress were cut down, but her purpose in life would remain. No, in fact, it would be all the stronger for it! One might even be tempted to assassinate Srina just to help Mercy realize that madness. Sadly, the one that committed to such a plan wouldn't live long enough to bask in Mercy's bolstered glory.

"I am many things, my insurmountable Empress. A Chairwoman. A purveyor of explosive entertainment, and architect of new worlds." The latter being Mercy's fault (or gift). "Among others." A little mysterious insinuation to tantalize Mercy. For certain people, Astra enjoyed teasing there being more because there was more. So much she would love to share, but there just wasn't enough time in a single lifetime.

Sustenance. Well that was a curious thing to offer Astra wasn't it? Mercy's efforts thus far might actually led to a loss in morsels to devour even as it lined Astra's pockets. A Sangnir couldn't survive on credits alone. Too early to worry about the woman going too far, however. No grand proclamations and crusades like that of the Maw to be concerned about. No rampaging hordes like the Bryn'adul. There'd still be plenty of morsels to take in even if Mercy -- or her cadre -- purged a planet or two.

"You can be certain, my Empress, that I shall never forget you. In fact, I shall make certain your glory is not outshone by any other." Some day Mercy would pass on to an eternal battlefield. Little chance of embracing her as one of the Blood; though Astra might posit the idea some day discretely as she had Lysander once before. Just to make sure the read was correct. And so, some day she would have need of a humble Sangnir ensuring her legacy was never forgotten. Provided they remain friends, as Mercy suggested.

A soft chuckle followed the woman's inquiry. "Reconstruction proceeds. Research continues. I collect as many samples of A'Mia's work as I can. There's great diversity in the galaxy, but she create new life in new forms. My scientists and researchers cannot resist so unique specimens and how best to put them to use for the Covenant." For Sanguine Enterprise, which was a loyal and patriotic member of the Covenant.

"Actually," Astra's head tilted a degree to the side, "I think Lord Antalis has great potential. With your support ensuring we collaborate together at Empress' Peace, I will explore that potential to its fullest." Though as a humble Corpo Astra couldn't quite come out and say she felt a stirring of the Force about the man, could she? Not directly. Sometimes it was as amusing trying to dance around a topic without breaking cover as it was watching people try to figure out whether it was a cover.

Maiza quirked her head to the side and up as a taller masked man seemed to address her. Nice mask she thought to herself, maybe she should add that to her shopping list. Her mask was hand carved from wood to resemble that of some Horror villain she saw on holos once. Yet a fancy ivory mask might suit her too.

He mentioned the Desolator, with that her eyes glanced towards the one the acolyte before her had given up on. "Hmm." She mused for a second not directly addressing Siv just yet. The Desolator wasn't the top of her shopping list. She was first thinking maybe a Slipstream Adar one of the bigger ones. She currently didn't have any flying creature companions. Then she was thinking maybe a pack of Maelridae. Then the Suppurater to burrow under the ground. Those creatures would cover all her bases when it came time for her to hunt down her enemies. Well, except space for that one day she would have to find out if those mythical space whales actually existed.

"They be an interesting spawn." As she spoke to the man still eying the snake like sith spawn. "I think it's one of Taeli Raaf 's creatures….." Saying that name caused her to think of Iskendyr Yvarro Iskendyr Yvarro for a moment. The one thing she actually missed about mingling with sith occasionally getting to see his pretty face. "Not that you need to know that sir, forget you heard me say that."

"They have camouflage ability I think?"
One of the kids said that on the expedition to the Umori Rainforest. Maiza was pretty sure they got eaten possibly the same kid that had facilitated her own faked death. "Wait! You don't even know me? What makes you think they would fit me? Or are you just some creep looking for conversation?" Her arm hand moved behind her back and her hand grasped a bone dagger sheathed there.

She didn't pull it not yet, she wasn't sure what this man was on about acting like he knew her. "If you are a creep….I will have you know I have killed five hundred men." She hadn't but she figured she had head butted that many people so it was practically the same thing. Maiza's stance clearly formed into a defensive one, normally she would just go on the attack but she was trying to keep a lower than normal profile. "I bet you are creep and you where that mask so o one can see you licking your lips." This was the time when one should shut up and let the other person explain but that was never Maiza's style.

"Why are you creeping on me and not someone...." Her eyes twitched to the side and she just happened to spot Daxen Vane Daxen Vane . "Like Pale face over there!" She pointed at him with her right hand.

Siv nodded in agreement with the young woman's assessment of the Desolator. "I concur. Hence the suggestion," he replied casually.

Her mention of Taeli Raaf, however, immediately caught his attention. His mismatched eyes brightened, and a smile formed beneath the smooth ivory of his mask. She was familiar with Taeli Raaf's creations? Now that was interesting. Siv had spent considerable time studying the accomplished alchemist's work, and he was always eager to speak with someone who might possess knowledge he had yet to encounter. Perhaps this peculiar young woman knew something worth discussing.

Before he could inquire further, however, she abruptly instructed him to forget what she had said. Siv tilted his head slightly. An odd request, considering she had volunteered the information herself. He was tempted to ask why, but the conversation had already taken another direction.

He had just opened his mouth to elaborate on the Desolator's capabilities when she launched into a string of accusations. Siv closed it again and listened with patient interest. He made no attempt to interrupt her, and several of her remarks even earned a quiet chuckle from beneath his mask. Her suspicion seemed rather excessive for what he had intended as a perfectly friendly suggestion, but he supposed everyone had their peculiarities.

"Five hundred?" he repeated, sounding genuinely impressed. "That's... impressive. Is that an exact count or an approximation? How do you log them? Do you maintain a kill log? I'd rather like to see that."

The questions were entirely sincere. Siv had encountered enough killers during his training to recognize that such a number was not necessarily impossible, though he suspected she might be exaggerating. Still, the prospect of someone maintaining a detailed record of five hundred deaths was fascinating. He would be particularly interested in knowing what information she had recorded about each individual.

Her accusation that he was some manner of creep, possibly licking his lips beneath his mask, brought another soft laugh.

"Oh, I assure you, there's nothing of note happening beneath this mask."

That was perhaps not entirely accurate. The extensive scarring concealed beneath the ivory would undoubtedly give her considerably more reason to find him disturbing. Still, he saw little benefit in correcting her impression.

"My name is Siv Maloren, and I'm merely here to assist the acolytes in ensuring they don't die," he explained pleasantly. He paused, glancing toward the various young Sith gathered around A'Mia's creatures. "It's never a hundred percent success rate, unfortunately."

He offered the observation as casually as one might comment on the weather, apparently unaware that it did little to make his assurances more comforting.

Following her gesture, Siv turned his attention toward the pale-faced young man she had indicated. He considered him briefly before giving a small shrug.

"If the pale-faced boy requires assistance, I'll gladly provide it. You're quite welcome to tame whichever creature you prefer, of course. Though, should you require assistance, I believe I'm contractually obligated to provide it."

He seemed rather pleased with that explanation.

Turning toward Daxen, Siv raised one long, gloved hand and motioned for him to join them.

"The same goes for you, should you need it," he called pleasantly.

Rorie's understanding of how big the galaxy was was starting to expand. She had been to a handful of places, thankfully, most of it funded by the Shens because of her odd little jobs. Today, though, on her way off Mechis III, the Big Boss grabbed her. The excitement coursing through the Lupo was so great she couldn't stay still. Every ounce of her buzzed as she stood there.

Standing near Arris interested the Lupo. She could hear the orchestra echoing from the woman's different parts. Rorie had never heard a person make the same sounds as the machines she had come into contact with.

But today, not only was Arris humming, but something more was there, too. Rorie had felt it and heard it the moment she set foot on Mechis III. It was unnerving; she felt watched all over again, understood in a way only the Doctors did, the only way he would.

Shivering, Rorie tried to shake the constant watching eye off of her as she wrapped her fingers around the knife that was strapped to her leg. It brought her an odd comfort, but she needed to keep her wits. That feeling wasn't one she wanted to keep feeling; if she could stop it—she would.

The ear closest to Arris flicked as it rotated slightly to hear the Android better without looking at her.

It was an odd question. One Rorie had never been asked before, but one she wasn't surprised to be asked. She knew what the Covenant had done when they swarmed Coruscant. They were Sith, something people feared, something that often shook the galaxy and that people tried to avoid.

But for Rorie… those under the winged crest were far worse.

Rorie wrinkled her nose as she finally answered the Boss.

"No." She tilted her head till she looked towards Arris. "B-but," she hesitated; the last thing she wanted was to promise something she wasn't sure she could do, or not do.

"I can…"

There were circumstances, things that Rorie remembered being tested on, poked and prodded till she lost her sense of self. In that state, she could. She could do anything if commanded correctly. Thinking about it, remembering those experiments, she whined softly in her throat.

"I don't think what I'm feeling tho is a person." She shifted where she stood, the excitement fading slightly as she couldn't explain what she was feeling. Completely unaware that the woman beside her could possibly understand better than most.

"It sings, it watches," Rorie said, her throat tight as she swallowed hard.

"It's everywhere, Boss. What is it… and how do we stop it?"

Death.

No, Astra Sadow Astra Sadow was close, but she didn't quite understand the madness coiling inside of Mercy's mind. It wasn't death that ushered her forward, that made her excited to live and do the things she did. But Mercy listened regardless, because she found Astra to be an interesting soul to say the least and interesting souls always had something worthwhile to say.

Something to learn from.

"You will make sure my glory will be remembered for the generations thereafter?" Mercy purred innocently with a smile. It didn't really matter to the Sith Lord, which might surprise those around them.

That Mercy didn't care about her legacy or the history she will leave behind.

She didn't say that though.

Instead-

"But then you should know what moves me. You should be... intimately aware of what hunger runs through my mind." Without a warning her image blurred and before Astra had any warning, the large woman would suddenly be on her. Fingers moving to curl around her thin neck, to pin her back against the wall.

"It's not death my heart belongs to, darling..." Mercy would whisper in Astra's ear, if she managed to get her hands on her and keep her pinned there.

"Try again... guess what my heart truly craves for..."

Fingers squeezing around her neck if successful.
