Rumble in the Jungle

1tWataI.png
It was dawn on Felucia. The sun was only beginning to illuminate the colorful landscape of the jungle world. Inside the shelter of a small hut, Grandmaster Kitra awoke at the first sign of light that crept inside. She dressed quietly in a pair of rugged cargo pants, tank top, and a jacket. As she slid her boots on, she glanced over that she sleeping area. There was still one form wrapped in blankets there, that of [member="Jake Daniels"]. Valae smiled softly, it was nice to enjoy some personal time here on Felucia, even if only for a night. Her hands gently tucked the blankets around Jake, and she left him to sleep a while longer.

Moving outside of their hut, she stretched her arms and greeted the day.

Soon they would have to board her YT-freighter, the Tumbleweed, and return to Voss. But there was still a little time to spare. With her utility belt in place, she made sure to set her saber and blaster in place on her hips. Valae also took up a machete, a primitive tool used to aid in cutting back the jungle brush. She had a feeling that Jake would not want her to wander off alone, but there was a grove of lush fruit trees up on the mountain. Valae could not deny that she felt hesitant, but the thought of this fresh fruit was enough to make her feet take her in that direction. The sun was still barely visible, but already the heat could be felt in the air. It was going to be another hot day. The Jedi healer walked up a mountain path, it had always been relatively safe and well traveled by the local Felucians. But at this early hour, it was eerily quiet.

As the path grew steep, Valae took her time to ascend. She came a halt, pausing to wipe a bit of sweat from her brow. Turning her glance up the hill, she reassessed the situation. Was this fruit really worth the hike? It was a bit of a rare delicacy, as the trees had a short season. Blowing out a sigh, she continued on her way. Her chestnut eyes turned to glance down at the village that sat in the valley below, it was a peaceful sight. And the thought of Jake sleeping made her smile fondly. Arriving at the top of the hill, she hacked at a bit of brush that had overgrown the trail, being careful not to accidentally cut herself in the process. “Phew,” Valae set the machete down and walked towards the orchard, eyeing the two rows of very tall trees that lined the path. Now, she only needed to find a few ripe melons to return with. Easy, right?

Felucia

At some considerable distance away the Concord Spear, a Firespray 31 Attack and Patrol Craft had landed alongside several troop transports, leaving a sizeable impact in the jungle of Felucia. From the Concord Spear disembarked the Bounty Hunter Koda Fett, one who had earned a name for himself across the galaxy as possibly one of the most dangerous men in the galaxy, and one of if not the best bounty hunter available. From the troop transports, the 501st Legion disembarked, clad in their plastoid armour with their signature blue markings. They were Stormtroopers, but they were elite, all seventy-two of them joined Fett as they marched through the jungle towards Vitra's encampment, unbeknownst of her departure from it.

The sounds of the plastoid trekking through the jungle was loud, but it did nothing to deafen the vicious predators of Felucia, they would come, but such a sizeable number of men was a challenge for them - as a result they stayed away - each man walked in unison with the same stride and walking pattern, after all, they were the same men biologically. The clearing was ahead, a line in which the jungle ended. Fett raised a fist and crouched down to a knee, they all did the same. The Bounty Hunter pulled the rangefinder of his helmet down over his visor, scanning the area ahead to find only one life signal. "Fan out, create and arch around the hut and open fire." He whispered into the helmet of the 501st's current Commander, the very man who stood up and spoke through the comms before beginning the advance.

A semi-circle of sorts was formed around the hut, and when they came into striking distance a hail of blaster bolts erupted all around it with the intention of killing whoever was inside. If there was a back exit, it would be wise to escape through it whilst they could. Once these men got their hands on said Jedi, their deaths would come shortly after. They weren't looking to create friends today.

‘Jake… rise and shine.’

‘Jake… time to wake up.’

‘Jake… get your damn arse up!’

The bare frame of Jake Daniels shot up into a seated position as the sudden sound of a voice yelling at him. Rarely was Jake ever jolted awake but the dreams of the prior night; that of a planet some distance away with him working on a home yet to begin construction had faded to black when three different voices seemed to call out to him. The first he recognized as his Mother, a woman whom he’d not seen since his youth. The second he knew as his Master, a woman as mysterious as she was dangerous. The third, well…

The Knights eyes shot to his side to see the spot beside him empty. Valae was gone. It wasn’t odd for her to wake up before him; she always did. It was odd that she wasn’t still in the hut. Jake rubbed his face with his palms vigorously in an attempt to wake up that much quicker. Just as Jake tossed the blanket from his body, the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. A tingling raced up his spine as something on the air was amiss. As the Knight rolled over and brought himself to his knees, he quietly listened.

At first he heard nothing. Sensing only the wildlife of Felucia; not even Valae was close. Based on what Jake felt, the pull the two shared towards one another, she was some distance away. It appeared the woman had gone for a morning stroll. Jake still didn’t let out a sigh of relief. The hairs on his neck, that tingling sensation up his spine, they continued. It was then that Jake felt it. Something dangerous was nearby but given how much of a connection to the force Felucia had in terms of life, Jake struggled to pinpoint it.

Ever quietly, the Knight slid on his shirt. Just as he was about to put on his undergarments and pants, he heard the snap of a twig outside. That’s when it all hit Jake; the flood of an alarm internally screaming for him to haul arse. Summoning his saber, grabbing his pants, undergarments and boots, the Knight had no more made it out of the rear of the hut than had the hut itself been penetrated by a surprisingly large number of blaster shots.

Jake didn’t look back. Bare buttocks and all raced into the Felucia’s colorful forest, head down, eyes forward. Jake did what he could, darting about one tree and then the next, avoiding any blaster shot that came his way. Once behind a rather large tree, Jake took the moment to drop his clothes and finally finish dressing. Inside him though the dark passenger had already emerged. The blue of his eyes gave way to a sharp yellow, which in turn shifted to a deep orange. Putting his saber in hand, Jake sneered as he took one peek around the tree and in the direction of his hut.

Where the hell was Valae? Jake reached out in the force, using their pull towards one another to find her. His presence brushed her own. Hopefully she’d take the hint. Where ever she was, she'd stay put, hopefully.

No crimson emerged from his saber hilt however. Not yet at least.

The Knight simply knelt and waited, head lowered, eyes closed. He listened for the sound of coming foot steps.

Valae had her arms full of fresh fruit; the she could already smell the sweet aroma – a sign that they were ripe to perfection. Grinning from ear to ear, she started to walk out of the orchard. The leaves rustled gently above, and the sun would be beginning to touch the edges of the village soon.

But then, she felt it.

Her arms dropped, letting go of the precious fruit as it if were nothing. The delicate citrus fruits fell to the ground, immediately bruised against the rocks. Rushing to the ledge, she glanced down at the village. From her spot on high, she had a good view of her hut below – where there was now a terrifying spray of blaster fire.

“Jake…” She whispered, her heart in her throat. Valae’s breaths were fast and shallow. Immediately, she began to run back down the path towards the village – not even thinking about her own safety. There were innocent Felucians here, this was their home. The soldiers were not on a rampage, not yet at least. They seemed fairly focused on their objective…

However, that didn’t mean that they wouldn’t start tearing through the village. Skidding to a halt at the bottom of the hill, she could now see that the shining armor of the soldiers was… familiar. Valae felt Jake’s presence brush against her own, he was alive. Her heart leapt. Valae knew that her problems were only beginning. Dashing behind a large boulder, she started to peek around slowly.

Had they spotted her?

The Mandalorian Bounty Hunter watched as his target fled, although it was a man, it wasn't Vitra - whoever it was - it didn't matter. So with three simple words he dismissed the male and instead re-focused on the mission at hand, "Search for Vitra." The infamous 501st Legion scattered about, searching and rummaging through the village, executing the Felucian Warriors that dare fought back without mercy, meanwhile, plenty of the Stormtroopers formed a solid perimeter around the Village, looking towards the jungle, watching and waiting for anything and everything that may come out of that dangerous hell-hole.

As all of this transpired, Fett had paced around with his carbine lowered, glancing around as his scanners pinged. Silhouettes of individuals appeared around him, indicating friendlies and enemies. The 501st Legion appeared with a blue outline, programmed in to be seen as friendlies whilst the Felucians were designated, and were seen as enemies with a red outline. This happened a fair few times as he turned to get a new angle until eventually a humanoid figure that appeared to be the one of a female was present. Who else would it be? It had to be her.

Though before he could say anything a Felucian Warrior came his way with a spear and a screech, but Koda was quick, he would have to be in order to even be considered as the best Bounty Hunter in the Galaxy. The spear was thrown and narrowly avoided, but before another attack could be launched the blaster was held like a pistol and fired one shot into the soon to be corpse of the Felucian, killing it in an instant. "There she is!" His voice echoed over the comms once more, marking her location on the Stormtroopers HUDs. The ten clones relatively nearby faced her direction and advanced upon her position, firing in an attempt to suppress her, it wasn't as if any of those shots would land with her concealed by a boulder.

A massacre was unfolding. They'd ignored Jake as he dashed into the forest and instead began searching. He wasn't their target. Then why the hell did they open fire on his hut? If not him then...

"Valae!" Jake whispered. His eyes went wide. They were hunting her.

Finally the crimson of his blade emerged. The distinct sound of a lightsabers hum filled the air in between the sounds of shouts, screams, and blaster shots. The death that filled the air tore at the inner demon of Jake. The dark passenger pushed it's way free with a viscous burst. His blue iris' turned to a sharp yellow. As he watched a Felucian fall, they began to tint with orange. But when he noticed soldiers firing at a large boulder, it didn't take a genius to realize that Valae was there. He felt her. He felt her tension as easily as he felt his own.

It wasn't he that needed help. It was her. It was here that his eyes gave in. The dark side swirled about Jake. Through him. In him. It perverted the man, darkening his facial complexion to the point that the dark side could be seen in his very veins. A snarl escaped his breath. Even if Jake wanted to; he wouldn't be able to subdue the dark passenger. Not now.

Coming from behind the tree, the Soldiers nearest him became the targets.

"You dumb arse mother fu..." Jakes voice trailed off as he let his saber go.

It spun through the air and met the back of a soldier whom raised his weapon towards a Felucian Warrior. The crimson punched through his chest, bring the soldier to his knees. With an outreached palm, Jake summoned the blade back while he reached out and snagged a second by the throat. The Knight's hands began to crush in on the soldiers esophagus.

Dropping his blaster, the soldier desperately grabbed at the unseen strangulation at his throat. So tight was Jake's grip that the man couldn't make a sound. That was when the Felucian Warrior rammed his spear into his throat.

"Evacuate the village. I'll handle these overly evolved walking monkeys." Jake snarled. The Felucian took off and began shouting in his own native language.

When a third soldier appeared, Daniels turned towards the man. Taking a Soresu stance, Jake readied himself. The first two shots were blocked with each. Each one allowing Jake to charge forward. Deflected left, deflected right, third back at the soldier who dodged with skill Jake had never seen before from a mere grunt. By the time he blocked the fourth, Daniels sliced through the soldiers blaster then brought his saber down onto his enemies right knee. Body fell one way. Limb fell another.

It was here that Jake would rely on the training of Lady Silencia. He'd be the wind. In and out. Hit and run. And so he did; weaving about the huts, picking and choosing his targets as he saw fit. The dumbest move these fools made? Leaving what had been a semi-naked man alone. Now they fought a man raised and trained by Sith. They just pissed off one of the best swordsman in the galaxy.

Fingertips gingerly touched the boulder, taking the chance to peek out, Valae felt her heart sink. The soldiers were now tearing through the village. Her friends were fighting and dying. “No,” She whispered, and then clapped a hand over her mouth. A moment later, blaster fire pelted against her cover. Valae ducked back, sinking behind the safety of the large rock. However, the footsteps were getting closer now. Valae never had been one to display huge amounts of courage, she wasn’t a proud warrior. But in the moment, she knew that she had to do something.

After all, the alternative was pretty grim.

Somewhere within the village, she could feel Jake’s presence. But it was different now – it was dark. Without much time to ponder and fret, she drew the saber hilt from her belt and activated it. Her azure blade came to live with a snap, and she pulled in a deep breath. Now or never…

Valae stood up in full view of the advancing troopers. As they continued to fire, she batted away the closest bolts with her saber, and then turned to run. Using the force to speed her along, she sprinted for the jungle tree line. If she could draw the soldiers away from the village, perhaps the Felucians would have a chance. Valae wasn’t too worried about Jake, despite the shadowy feel to his presence – she knew that he could handle himself. However, she was just a bit worried about her own hide.

A blaster bolt shot past her cheek. It was very, very close.

Letting out a startled yelp, she put her head down and continued to run. Weaving in and out of the plants and trees, she hoped to keep her attackers on their toes. But with all of the roots and branches along the ground, it wasn’t an easy jog – that was for sure.

The Stormtroopers pursued the Grandmaster as she continued to flee through the jungle, slowed down by the difficult terrain. Vines, slopes, flora, and carnivorous flora at that. Snatching and hissing at the Imperial Finest that ran after the Jedi through the jungle. If she wasn't running as fast as she could, they would catch up to her soon enough, firing at her in their full sprint with accuracy, as Clone Troopers were known to do. Although despite their best efforts, they would be ultimately slowed by the harsh terrain, it wasn't easy to run in after all.

The Bounty Hunter activated his jetpack, soaring over the jungle as he was able to peer through the canopy and witness the Stormtroopers valiantly pursuing Vitra. She wasn't necessarily wanted alive, but if she was able to be captured, perhaps extra payment was in order. Though Fett wasn't looking for a way to capture her, clearly evident when a rocket barrage was fired from his right's wrist gauntlet down towards her. If it didn't hit it's target, it would at the very least slow her down.

As for the 501st Legion members remaining at the village, they had all left to partake in the chase. Though fifteen remained, attempting to encircle Daniels whilst firing their blasters towards him. Such intense fire would be difficult to defend against, especially when it came from all sides. It was the effective method to deal with Jedi, though apparently he was more in tune with the Dark Side than the Light from what was being witnessed today. Fleeing, once again, would most likely prove to be the most advantageous decision in this instance.

He was the wind. Weaving around huts as fast as his aching knees would carry him, Jake already noticed what was happening. The Soldiers were pulling into a tighter circle. They were trying to box him in. Rampant and arrant fire throughout the village were an attempt to pin the Knight down. Yet the training he received from his Master, the tutelage of Noghri Assassins, it all came back as the dark passenger inside took full control. Jake dodged and avoided what he could, searching for and then spotting his out. The soldiers were skilled; highly trained but by pulling together and trying to tighten their grip they left a sliver of an opening that allowed the Knight to flank them.

Fifteen soldiers remained. Fifteen soldiers were going to fall.

Jake snagged a soldier by his throat. Crushing down on the man’s larynx, the soldier dropped his gun and desperately grasped at the unrelenting grip on his throat. With a twist of his hand, the soldiers head turned completely around. He fell into a heap on the villages ground; the first of fifteen was now down. Jakes saber left his hand, slicing through the right arm of another. The man hollered in pain as he too fell. As Jake rushed forward, his saber found his palm. A quick kick to the soldiers head caused his remaining attached hand to let go of his weapon. A strike downward impaled the mutilated trooper. The second of fifteen was now down.

Jake barely dodged a shot from the right. A soldier having emerged from around another building. Jake disappeared, using crates, stands, and various other objects for cover. The soldier rushed forward, following Jakes footsteps in the dirt. He came to a dead stop when Jakes trail seemed to just suddenly vanish.

“I’ve lost sight…” The Soldier began to say into a comm before something in his gut told him to look up. Just as the helmet of the man turned upwards, Jake brought his blade down. The Knight leapt down from the top of a hut; having balanced himself for a moment on a support rod. Crimson crushed down through the helmets visor. As Jakes feet met dirt once more, the Soldier crumpled down. The third of fifteen had been dealt with.

As Jake turned, he caught the glint of sunlight off of a blaster rifle. Just milliseconds before soldier could fire, Jake brought his saber down on the weapon. The Soldier seemed to be surprisingly quick however. As the destroyed weapon was dropped, the trooped launched his body into Jake. Both fell through the leather hide of the huts siding. As their bodies toppled on the cloth covered ground, both men rolled. Daniels saber was knocked from his hand. The soldier landed a clean hit to Jakes face. When he attempted a second, Jake moved his head. Gloved hand hit dirt. Daniels punched the outside of the troopers elbow, buckling his arm and allowing the Knight to roll and twist about.

Jake continued to avoid hits, while wrapping the troopers legs in a near figure four hold. Grabbing the soldiers ankle, Jake applied a horrendous about of torque and violently twisted. The snap even caused Jakes spine to shutter as bone snapped like dried twigs. Kicking free, Jake pounced onto the soldiers chest. His adversary pulled a knife from his side holster, to which Jake twisted the mans arm. Putting his near two hundred pounds of weight into it, Jake shoved the Knife down towards the soldiers throat, only to jerk upwards at the last second. Cold steel punched up and under the exposed chin of the soldier who let out several bloody gasps. Pulling the knife free, Jake removed the mans helmet, only to slam the weapon into his temple. The soldier stilled. The fourth of fifteen had been dealt with.

Then a horn roared through the village. That was followed by the shouts of of Felucians. Summoning his saber to his hand, Jake emerged from the hut to witness the sight of dozens of Felucians flooding out of the nearby villages. Warriors let out battle cries as they charged. The remaining troopers turned their attention from their battle with Jake to the surprising number of Felucians. This gave Jake a brand new out.

With crimson eyes, the aura of darkness that radiated from Jake was an aspect of the dark side he had not felt in a very long time. It wasn't the blind darkness that Sith often leaned on. No this was a rage that emerged from a threat to his family. His Mate was threatened. His Mate was in danger. The man took off in the direction the force pulled him. He’d get to her. When he did, people would pay.

Jake was coming for blood.

Breathing hard, Valae continued to run. The branches seemed to reach out and grab her as she pushed through the jungle brush, scratching her arms up a bit. Though she could sense the soldiers that had followed her into the jungle, a quick glance over her shoulder told her that they weren’t exactly on her heels. They were likely struggling with the rather uneven landscape as well. She only hoped that a majority of them had been drawn away from the Felucian Village.

Never much of an athlete, she was beginning to grow tired. Sweat beaded her brow now; the humid heat of Felucia certainly didn’t help matters. What was she going to do when she couldn’t run anymore? The thought hadn’t even crossed her mind; she’d acted solely on the impulse to distract the soldiers. By now, she realized that they hadn’t simply come here to ransack a village. Of course, there was a very small chance that they had come here for Jake – but she doubted that very much. At some point, she had a feeling that she was going to need to defend herself, whether she liked it or not.

But as that last thought drifted past, there wasn’t time for another to form.

A flurry of rocket fire pounded the ground right next to her feet. Letting out a startled yelp, she was thrown from her feet. As soon as she hit the ground, she found herself rolling down a rather steep hill. Twigs crunched beneath her, her body bruised by the rocks she landed on as she finally came to a stop at the bottom. Groaning quietly, she blinked hard to re-gain her bearings. As she tried to sit up, a sharp pain made her falter. Her left shoulder was dislocated slightly, at least that’s how it felt.

Struggling to her feet, she placed a steady hand on her injured shoulder. A tiny shift was felt as she pressed against it, and the joint went back into place. The sweat dripped down her brow, though she was gifted when it came to suppressing pain in others – especially those closest to her… it was far more difficult to do for herself. Though it still hurt to move, the healer could use her arm if she needed. After wiping her forehead, she looked to see that her fingertips had come away red.

She was bleeding, likely from a cut that she’d suffered on her way down the hill.

Grabbing her saber with her right hand, she gripped the hilt tightly. She needed to be ready, just in case. She resumed her trek, much slower than before.

The Stormtroopers of the 501st Legion took no time in waiting, coming across the injured Grandmaster, standing atop of the hill and as she unsheathed a Lightsaber at the base of it. Their blaster rifles were raised, assuming combative stances as they come to a sudden halt, firing down with lethal rounds and superior firepower. The sound of the blaster fire a beacon to anyone or anything that may be within the area. For now predators remained at bay, the overwhelming numbers being too great for a single beast to take on - predatory instincts had told them to stay away for the time-being.

Meanwhile, the Bounty Hunter descended from the skies, landing in the dirt if not mud with a thud as he began firing down upon the Jedi with his Blaster Carbine. Enough rockets had been used today, she would most likely flee or make use of her force powers to inhibit her attackers. Though for now, all that came down was the intense amount of laser fire intent of killing it's target, if not wounding severely. Instructions were of course to kill, though what kind of a reward would he receive if he were to bring her back alive and open for interrogation? Surely something magnificent.

The closer he grew, the stronger the feeling got. To him it was as though he had received the injury. Through the force and their shared bond, Jake knew Valae was in dire need of help. He knew she was injured. Today had been a pop-quiz of sorts. A quiz he failed in spectacular fashion as his dark passenger took in and absorbed the feeling of pain that ravaged Valae. That pain was his driving force. The need to avenge her. The need to punish those that dared hunted her. Jake wasn’t just angry. Jake was pissed.

The blaster fire from the troops near Valae’s position kept the Felucian’s at bay. They were what was considered cannon fodder. Their drive to avenge those that had been lost in the savage attack was the same drive Jake felt. They spilled soldier blood today. They would spill more. As word spread village to village, it would be long for even more Felucian warriors to arrive. After all, a troopers blaster weapon was no different then one that shot bullets. Eventually it would run out of ammo and when it did; numbers truly mattered.

Daniels found his breach through their line when he reached out with the force and snagged one trooped by the helmet. As Jake began to close his fist in an attempt to crush the helmet and the soldiers head with it, the man slipped free. Jake dropped the helmet and launched his lightsaber. The blade punched through the chest of the man and found Daniels hand as the Knight charged. He deflected what shots he could; while Felucian warriors drew fire from him by following close on his heels.

As Valae stumbled forth in an attempt to get away from her pursuers, Jake stood in her path. His violently red eyes told of the rage that boiled within him. His heart sank like a pebble in water when he saw her wound. His anger continued to fester when he turned his attention towards her pursuer. His aura, his presence on the force itself was so vastly different, so vastly darkened. This was the Jake Daniels that had bested Jedi Masters. This was the Jake Daniels that had embarrassed Sith Lords. This was the Jake Daniels that had been the protector of the Shamalain Family for decades. Words were not spoken between Lion and Lioness. Instead, when Valae came to Jakes side, the Knight came before her and took a distinctive soresu defensive stance towards her pursuer.

He didn’t speak.

He didn’t blink.

His didn’t move.

He was prepared to die here and now for Valae. If Jake was going to dine in hell, he would be bringing a whole lot of guests with him.

Valae managed to bat away a few blaster bolts with the blue blade of her saber, but the motion needed to swing the weapon made her shoulder ache sharply. She knew that she’d be little use with the saber during this fight, and so she drew the force in and held out her palm. A shimmering force barrier appeared and deflected the next volley. But her barrier was not as strong as it normally was; the injuries she had sustained made it difficult to concentrate.

A bolt or two hit the dirt just by her feet and one cut sharply through the air next to her head.

Things were looking grim for the Grandmaster. But then, there was hope – it came in the form of [member="Jake Daniels"] and the Felucian warriors. Her eyes went wide, and her heart leapt. As Jake came to stand protectively before her, she placed a hand on his arm. Valae knew that he would be dead set on damaging the hunter that had come to collect her, but this seemed like an opportunity to get some answers.

“Who are you!?” Valae shouted at [member="Koda Fett"], “Who sent you!?”

Valae peered over Jake’s shoulder at the masked man. It was clear that he had been ordered to kill her, as of yet he’d made no effort to attempt capture. The sound of her heart echoed in her head, she hoped that this man would be willing to at least entertain her questions. The enemy soldiers would soon be outnumbered, if they didn’t act fast.

With the arrival of Jake Daniels and the Felucian Warriors the tide had been turned, at least one would think. These men weren't just your regular Stormtroopers, they were the 501st Legion. They were the Empires pride and glory, they were Special Forces. Well trained in all fields of combat expertise. They wouldn't falter easily. They kept firing no matter what, and so did the Bounty Hunter. Four men who were lagging behind due to their heavier gear finally arrived, two rotary cannons and rocket launchers. The rotary cannons spun to life, dispersing a barrage of fire through the Felucian Warriors whilst two Rockets were launched towards Valae and Jake. They were here to do a job, and they would get it done no matter the cost. Though for those so strong in the force it could of course be avoided, and with relative ease. All the while, the standard infantry kept up their intensive fire despite losses they may sustain.

It's nothing personal, just business.

Koda never responded to Valae's plea, he wasn't much for words. There was a big payout to this job, fifty-million in fact. May be one of the very few times in which risking your life down to the last thread may very well be worth it. It didn't matter, for now he had the advantage, and he would continue to press it.
