Culture: The Rukya have a culture based on intelligence and riddles. They can be found in small families consisting of one male, one female, and a litter of kittens during mating season. Females will usually have a male answer a series of riddles before choosing whether or not to mate with it, as intelligence is a highly regarded quality in Rukya society. These creepy cats also enjoy asking anyone who passes them to answer riddles. Riddles and puzzles are so deeply ingrained in their culture that many Rukya often speak in riddles.
Technology level: Because they lack thumbs, Rukya don’t use a whole lot of tech. They are fond of books though, particularly rubbing their faces on them, and they do enjoy laying on datapads and keyboards.
General behavior: They use force stealth to sneak up their prey. The usually hunt by pouncing on another animal and biting the back of it’s neck to sever its spine. They often speak in riddles and enjoy solving puzzles. Have been known to purr when happy and occasionally like to snuggle.
History: The Rukya is a naturally occurring species of sentient cat from Deleritas. They evolved the ability to mimic Calbogian* speech and eventually, learned to understand the sounds they were mimicking, enabling them to speak Calbogian as well as their own Rukyan language, which consists of mostly meows, purrs, and hisses with the occassional growl. When other sentient beings began coming to Deleritas, the Rukya learned to mimic them as well, some of them eventually going as far as learning the languages of many other beings. Because of their fondness for riddles, many humans view them as an oddity, making them a coveted pet in some places. Although since the creatures are sentient there has been a lot of debate throughout history over the moral and legal aspects of owning one. It has been decided recently that owning a Rukya as a pet is the same thing as slavery, but some people have managed to befriend Rukya, allowing the creatures to live in their homes in exchange for catching vermin.
