OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Military Base Name: Ruby's Sorrow | RBL-1
  • Classification: Rebel Outpost
  • Location: Rubyflame Lake, Centares
  • Affiliation: In New Imperial territory; Occupied by soldiers of the Galactic Alliance.
  • Population: Sparse
    • Due to the location and history surrounding it, the ancient base is widely avoided by locals. As such, the Rebel Alliance invited only a few civilians who were loyal to the cause to act as caretakers to the base. Some soldiers who are a permanent point of contact for the rebellion of Centares come and go frequently as they seek asylum in the remote location. Rarely ever does the majority of the rebel fleet land at the base.
  • Demographics: The civilian caretakers consist mainly of the species found commonly on Centares- Human, Bith, and Sakiyan. The soldiers who come and go consist of a wide variety of species in the core, making up a quite diverse demographic.
    • 55% Human
    • 6% Bith or Sakiyan
    • 23% Varied
  • Accessibility: The rebel base is out in the open for all to see- for those who venture to its location. Located in the middle of Rubyflame Lake, it's hundreds of miles from the nearest bustling metroplex, and a good hike to its neighboring village. Even if you make it out, the terrain itself protects the base- the acidic water wards off tourists who would have once come to bask in the lake's beauty, and the vapors that rise often shroud the base from those stationed at the lake's shore.
  • Description: A larger circualar object nested on a rocky island in the midst of blood-red waters. Imperial in design, The base is built in silver material dulled by time and surrounded by circular supports, crowned with a satellite tower.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Landing Pad - Located on the roof of the structure, the landing pad is big enough to accommodate a few shuttles or starfighters at a time. It's entrance is only one of two in the base.
  • Listening Station and Holonet Station - Attached to the military base is a satellite able to scan comms on the planet and within nearby space. A few rooms of the station are dedicated to operator boards for this purpose, though only one is usually manned by the rebels.
  • Training Balcony - The eastern side of the second-level balcony is dedicated to an authentic training experience to prepare folks for the environment on Centares. Exposed to snow, wind, and rain, the balcony sees the toughest conditions and tempers the toughest soldiers.
  • Barracks - Housing for troops and more permanent residents. At its full capacity, the accommodations could likely house three companies and support staff.

SECURITY
  • Medium
    • Standard base security defenses restored by engineers.
    • Daily patrol of the lake's perimeter.
    • Watches posted in the mountains and skies monitored via technology.
    • Armored exterior

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

None are certain when this base was built, nor who by, though it was certainly before the gulag plague ravaged the Galaxy. Some claim it was a research outpost during the times of the Galactic Empire, when their cultivation of the resources in the nearby area brought ruin to Centares. Other locals tell tales of a pirate prince who made a home on the waters. Both accounts are likely wrong, considering the facilities. It was rediscovered in ancient years when a Sakiyan engineer acquired the necessary technology to cross the acidic lake that surrounds it, attempting to collect environmental data. Word of mouth traveled to the nearby villages, though most of the population was unable to reach it, and it was almost forgotten once more.

When Twilight Company's extraction from the planet fell through due to Imperial chase, an ally of the rebel cause who lived on Centares told them the urban legend of the base. Reaching it had been a long shot- they had no way to cross the dangerous waters, yet it was move or be caught. Their guide took them to a spot his father had spoken of when he was dying, though at the time the family had simply thought it the delusional gibberish that comes with death. However, beginning in the mouth of a cave only accessible by low tide, the group found a pathway that lay just beneath the water's surface, almost invisible due to the ruby sheen of the lake. With the equipment supplied by the Galactic Alliance and the access way, the company successfully made it across to the small island. After the Imperial tail came to a dead-end in the wilderness, the group transmitted a distress signal to the earlier transport. When GADF engineers saw the place, they knew they could restore it to its former glory. What was once lost to the locals was found again by the growing rebel presence on Centares, due to a single spark of hope.
