- Reverse Card: The RSD-13's reprogrammable membrane allows for ships to quickly adapt to unconventional types of damage.
- Not the End All: The effectiveness of the RSD-13 is limited by the overall hull integrity of a ship. A ship constructed of plastoid will not benefit from the flex hardener to the extent that a ship constructed with Impervium would.
- Guessing Game: Unable to predict in any sort of way what sort of damage type would be present, the RSD-13 is more of a responsive technology than a proactive one.
The galaxy is vast, and so are the technologies used by the beings that war in it. From solar ionization to turbolaser technology, naval warfare is vast and comprehensive. To be on the cutting edge of ship-to-ship combat is to be able to quickly adapt to the types of damage they deal, and the RSD-13 Acanthos Armor Flex Hardener is just the sort of technology for that. An advanced 'smart' macromolecular membrane built into a ship's hull, the flex hardener is capable of being re-programmed mid-action to counter different types of damage. This allow s a ship to more efficiently manage power allocation while still providing for secure hull integrity.
Moreover, it allows a ship equipped with more or less standard defensive technology to adapt to unconventional forms of weaponry that its other systems might not be adequate against. The smart sensors of the module along with full ship integration allow it the full breadth of a ship's sensor capabilities, and it can more or less accurately assess the type of damage being dealt to a ship as well as the quantities of each type of damage. Using swappable scripts, a flex hardener can quickly be adjusted to defend against a specific type of weaponry. When unscripted, the module will automatically program itself to defend against the predominate type of damage a ship is taking, but this can be easily manually overridden in order for the crew to selectively defend against a type of weaponry.
Altogether it is a capable and importantly flexible module that will greatly enhance the defensive capabilities of any starship with it installed.
