Well the party is celebrating the current truce between the Republic and Sith (thanks to the Clockwork Rebellion). Now everyone who is attending was invited by the Senator himself. The way that I looking at this is that you helped the Republic during the war. During the war you helped smuggle goods for them. Seeing how that could be important, it got you invited.
