Round 2: Jedi Tournament Apollodor V Molidias

And it had been a few days, just enough for holos to be reviewed, give the Jedi time to heal, and rest up, revitalize themselves. For those who were wanting to continue on with the tournament, there were more matches lined up. And for others, some had to travel out and others were coming back, the training and sparring grounds were open to all. And with so many missions going on for the Jedi, it was easy to get lost in the lines.

The nice thing about the Praxeum that Ember Farseer helped to establish, was that there wasn’t quite a denomination. Jedi from all over had come to train here, learn from one of the instructors, or another, or help network with another group of Jedi who were leaning in the way they wanted.

Today, the Jedi were back at it. The spar had the same rules, general simple garb, and training weapons of the Jedi’s own choosing, as long as they were of the melee designation, no Jedi popping in with ranged weapons. Occuring in one of the many indoor sparring rooms, the Jedi were greeted by a Sentinel to introduce the rules and combatants. They were also there to call points and assist if there was a dispute.

It was unlikely, because it was the Jed, but it made most feel better.

Round 2 of the Jedi Dueling Tournament [member="Thalo Molidias"] v [member="Nylea Apollodor"]

In the few days since the first round of the tournament, Nylea had taken the time to get better adjusted to the weight and grip of the training saber she was using. The blade being a blue color instead of silver was not the only difference, it also varied in weight and grip compared to her own, which had made the duel on the first day quite difficult to navigate. This time, she was better prepared.

Stepping into the chamber, the echani noticed she was the first of the two to arrive. She greeted the sentinel with a gentle nod of the head before stepping into the duelling circle and sitting down with her legs crossed, patiently awaiting the arrival of her opponent for this round. Who that opponent was not for her to know until they too arrived and their duel could begin. Until then, Nylea would center herself, seeking a state of serenity and clarity of mind, so that she would be ready for what was to come.

[OOC: Apologies for the short post, this weekend got busy pretty much out of nowhere and I am pretty tired. I still wanted to get something out there, though.]

The first round hadn't gone too well for Thalo. The reason for that, he didn't know. But he was determined this time it would go better. Now he was more prepared for what he could come to face. It was usually sith he fought, so the way a jedi duelled another jedi was partially unknown to him. But now he knew more.

He got dressed in the robes the contestants were to use, and went over to the selection of training-sabers. He had used a lightpike in the last round, and it hadn't really helped him too much. So this time he chose his second favourite: the curved-hilted lightsaber. He took up the one from the selection and tried swinging it a few times. When he thought he had got the feeling of it, he deactivated it, and clipped it to its holster.

Then he walked out, and into the duelling circle he would fight in. His opponent was already there. She was sitting on the ground, it looked like she was meditating. Thalo entered the circle, walked up to her and extended a hand for her to shake. "Good Luck," he said, before the duel began.

When Nylea heard the door open, so did her eyes, allowing her to see the pantoran man step into the chamber and towards her. While looking him over to take in the physical features of her opponent for this round she went to get back on her feet. "Hello, it is a pleasure to meet you," she said with the ever calm and peaceful tone in her voice as he approached her, "my name is Nylea." Hands were shook and the echani took a few steps backwards to the edge of the ring, taking her place there. "Good luck to you as well. I look forward to getting to know you." With her heritage came that she truly knew somebody after they had sparred, after all. Where words could be filled with lies, the language one's body spoke was always truthful.

Nylea took a deep breath before unclipping the training saber from her belt with her left hand, then nodded towards Thalo and let it spring to life with the familiar 'snap-hiss' sound known to all who practiced the art of the lightsaber. The stance she took was indicative of the Makashi form, the one she was most comfortable with. "I am ready," she informed her opponent, "may we learn much from each other." This duel carried no hostility. As such there ,was no reason to omit courtesy- she would wait until Thalo too declared he was ready to begin.

"A pleasure to meet you too. I'm Thalo." Just as Nylea, he took a few steps backwards. He had to think for a second when she said she looked forward to getting to know him. But he quickly remembered that the echani used combat as a way to getting to know People. Not that strange, at least Thalo didn't think so. Many others didn't understand it, so they thought it was wierd. Thalo didn't completly understand either, but he had experienced that one could learn much about someone when fighting them. He looked forward to this duel.

"I'm ready too," he answered her. He took up his lightsaber and activated it. The stance she took was the one for Makashi, so he chose to use Djem So. When used correctly, form five was the best form to Counter Makashi. He wasn't a master of this form, but it was of those he knew the best. Both forms were aggresive, more or less. At lest both were designed for combat against another lightsaber user.

Much of what had made him lose his previous duel was his Focus on quick offense. It had tired him out. Now, he would try to utilize form five to it's fullest: Block and fast Counter-attack. He readied himself, and took an opening stance of Djem So; holding his blade over his head, ready to deflect incoming attacks.

Thalo informed Nylea that he too was ready and with little hesitation she quickly dashed forward, taking the iniative that she failed to ever capture in her previous duel. It had forced her to remain on the defensive, but she would be looking to grasp and use it effectively this time. He had taken a stance signature of the Djem So form, one that would be difficult to overcome once the momentum shifted. It was going to be imperative that the duel ended sooner rather than later, or that she found ways to disengage and reset the duel back into a neutral state if she started to lose control. With a ring of this size that was going to be tall task- stylistically she had her work cut out for her, but she would count on her many years of experience to be her edge.

Once the distance was closed the echani wasted little time sending out the first strikes, a feint strike that aimed at her opponent's upper right arm, only to be quickly withdrawn before a clash of sabers could occur in order to redirect her lightsaber towards the upper leg instead. The steeled expression on her face displayed nothing but focus, removing any notion that she let emotion play a part in situations such as these before they could even be formed. To her combat was highly important and to be taken seriously, her demeanor and body language reflected that.

The duel started quickly, and Nylea was right in front of him fast. It was clear that she would be the attacker in this duel, which was fine by Thalo. He had already planned on being the one who recieved attacks, and redirected them to get in attacks of his own. He raised his lightsaber to block her first strike, but quickly twisted his hand around when he saw that she redirected hers. The only reason he managed to twist the lightsaber so fast, was because he used a curved-hilt. Any other lightsaber would have made that pretty hard. He blocked the strike, and prepared for a counter-strike.

One needed little thinking in fights like this. The movements came naturally, as the result of training, or when one used the force to feel instead of thinking. When he blocked the strike, he continued his movement into a complete turn, and aimed a strike at his opponents upper body. The momentum he recieved from the turn made this attack faster than it normally would. This was not his usual way of fighting. Normally, he would try to act very fast, and surprise his opponent with unorthodox maneuvers and unusual moves. But this time, he had decided to try it a little different.

Like the tide ebbed and flowed, a duel between two bladesmen was a continuous trade of opportunities to strike when the playing field was even. Nylea's strike was interrupted but instead of committing to bladelock, she pulled back once more in an attempt to find a new angle of attack. Her goal was to keep a high pace and force him to match it, hopefully causing him to slip up and leave a gap in his defense somewhere. An intricate puzzle, where the slightest movement could bring you a step further to solving it or set you three steps backwards.

Keeping up the offense wasn't in the cards until Thalo's counter-strike was staved off, though. Nylea's opponent spun to add momentum and power to his attack before sending his blade on a collision course with the echani's upper body, and she knew that simply blocking it would be near-impossible. Instead, after bringing up her blade to meet it she put enough strength behind it to slow it down so she could sidestep it. Then, for just a flash her lightsaber deactivated as she struck out towards his right upper arm from her newfound position.

The start of the fight had gone as he had hoped, with his opponent taking the role of attacker. The counter-strike had been semi-succesful, having earned him a slight advantage. But his opponents next move came as a surprise, with her deactivating her lightsaber, then striking at his upper arm. There was no way he could deflect it, as he had hoped to do for much of the match, and the only real thing he could do was to try and evade it.

Thalo acted as quick as he could, and spun to the side, and then proceeded to jump backwards a bit away from Nylea. This was not ideal, as they were now out of direct reach from each other. One would have to close the distance, and in the time before that happened they would both have had time to think and analyze.

In his new position, he raised his lightsaber, standing prepared for incoming attacks. He would still not be the one attacking, thinking it would be smart to preserve his energy. The last attack had cought him unprepared, a mistake he could not do again. But now he knew more of how Nylea fought, although he wouldn't claim to know everything about it. At least it could prove useful.
