DESCRIPTION
With the naval battle for Roche at an end and a sizable supply of phrik secured for the Mandalorian Clans, Rygel Larraq of Mandal Hypernautics began to analyze the tactical recordings of the naval battle for the system. Analyzing the ships and tactics used by the Republic, as well as the performance of his own ships and tactics, Larraq came to the conclusion that the Mandalorians' Naval Forces required a new line of ships. While the Rekali Starfighters performed spectacularly, as did the Beskar plated [member="Naast'ika Laaran"], Larraq noted that the 150 meter bio-corvette was not fast enough to keep pace with the smaller, more agile ships in the asteroid belt. Likewise, it was the Republic's use of stealth shuttles and the near-inability of both the Rekali Fighters and the Naast'ika Laaran to run down and accurately track said shuttles that proved to be a major contributor to the newly designed craft.
Since the focus of the new design was to operate within and around dense asteroid fields similar to Roche, and due to the inspiration for the design coming from the battle for Roche, the new classification of ship was labeled the Roche-class Light Corvette. Designed as a maximum efficiency middle ground between the elite Rekali Fighter and a larger, more capable Corvette, the Roche-class would opt to forgo conventional artificial gravity systems in favor of relying on the ship's own thrust to provide the sensation of gravity. The space and power saved by this decision allowed the ship to incorporate a secondary sensor suite, an advanced targeting computer, and a powerful, finely tuned Hyperdrive.
Optimizing on the concept of utilizing the ship's own thrust to provide gravity, the entire internal crew space for the ship focuses on a vertical stacking of multiple small decks instead of the horizontal stacking of a few long decks, not entirely dissimilar to an office building. The base of the ship is placed atop a single massive drive cone. At this lowest level, a single powerful fusion reactor rests directly over the drive cone. On the port side of this "engineering deck" is a tall, narrow structure that houses the ship's water tank. On the starboard side, the same tall, narrow structure serves as the ship's cargo bay. Inside the cargo bay, magnetic clamps and floors secure shipment crated during flight in spite of the intense gravity forces that would otherwise force them towards the aft of the ship. For the sake of the crew and to prevent these clamps from being overloaded and allowing loose cargo to damage the ship, inertial compensators are included in the design of the ship and activate should the G-forces exerted on the ship exceed 3x standard gravity, but are only used to maintain this 3x maximum limit, not to negate it entirely.
Situated above the engineering deck is a machine shop stocked with all the tools and supplies required to enact emergency repairs and perform general maintenance on the ship and the combat gear held within her. Above the machine shop was the habitation deck. This deck was comprised of a central galley that also served as a recreational area. The galley housed a full kitchen, a table that seated twelve, and a number of ceiling mounted display screens that could be folded down for viewing from the central table. These screens enabled the crew to monitor the condition and surroundings of the ship while at rest, as well as serving as entertainment stations when allowed. There were 12 small rooms that surrounded this central galley. Each room contained a Zero-G safe bed, a high-G safe chair, several security cabinets that were bolted to the floors and walls, and a single bathroom. Each bathroom contained a toilet that functioned in zero-G, a shower that functioned in 0.25-G, a sink that functioned in 0.25-G, and numerous other conventional amenities.
Above the habitation deck is the storage deck. The storage deck holds a small armory, including racks for 12 suits of void-capable armor or Beskar'gam, as well as a Medical Bay that houses six fully automated Athakam II Medical Beds, a single Bacta Tank, and a well stocked drug cabinet. Also on the storage deck was a dorsal crew airlock. The only other entry points into the ship are a starboard facing airlock that connects to the cargo bay and an emergency maintenance port just above the reactor housing. On the ventral side of the ship, opposite the crew airlock, is an access point for the reloading of ammunition. On the port side of the ship, opposite the cargo bay doors, is an access point for the reloading of fuel and water, as well as a tether for connection to a station's power supply while docked.
At the prow of the ship, situated above the storage deck, is the operations deck. Four primary stations are situated on an elivated platform. These are the pilot's station, co-pilot's station, weapon's control station, and tactical system's station. Situated below these four stations, an additional six support stations line the walls of the operations deck. These six stations are identical and can be configured for a number of purposes.
The primary armament of the Roche-class Light Corvette is a pair of Torpedo Launchers. One launcher rests on the ship's ventral side while the other rests on the dorsal side. Though both launchers face directly forwards, the advanced munitions that they fire are capable of engaging a target at any angle. The Roche-class carries 20 Heavy Torpedoes with advanced guidance systems and long-range fuel complements. These Torpedoes are typically armed with any of a variety of warheads; including but not limited to: High-Yield Plasma Warheads, Fusion Warheads, Proton Warheads, Ion Warheads, and Creespa Warheads. These missiles can either rely on traditional guidance locks to find their targets or can be guided onto target with a targeting laser.
To defend against similar missile systems from enemy ships, the Roche-class is armed with six retracting 20mm point defense gatling mass-drivers. While these weapons are intended to protect the ship from hostile torpedoes, they are also quite effective against hostile starfighters at close range and can be a considerable nuisance to the shield systems of hostile capital ships.
Needing a secondary armament to utilize once the ship has fired all of its torpedoes, the Roche-class also sports a keel-mounted shield cutter and a rail gun that fires five-pound tungsten rods at a speed of 6km/s.

Needing a secondary armament to utilize once the ship has fired all of its torpedoes, the Roche-class also sports a keel-mounted shield cutter and a rail gun that fires five-pound tungsten rods at a speed of 6km/s.

Strengths:
- Compact Design: Thanks in part to her lack of artificial gravity and vertical deck layout, the Roche-class benefits from a tight frame and compact design that make her a relatively small target for a corvette.
- Floor It: Much of the ship's total mass is comprised of reactors and maneuvering systems. As such, she is highly agile and very fast, able to keep up with many ships half her size.
- Phrik and Shine: Equipped with the sturdy yet lightweight Alusteel and Phrik as the primary material from which she is created, the Roche-class is capable of withstanding an impressive beating for a ship as light and fast as she is. Seeking to capitalize on this, she also sports a dual shield system to maximize her durability. Unfortunately, this additional shielding overtaxed the reactors and forced the engineers to rely on more ancient weapon systems as offense.
- Angel Eyes: Equipped with a secondary Angel Eye Sensor Suite, the Roche-class is capable active sensor detection of gravity disturbances at standard sensor ranges and at point blank ranges is capable of detecting ships equipped with gravitic modulators. Unfortunately, the use of said active scanning technique makes the Roche-class highly visible in the process.
- Hide and Seek: The Roche-class includes advanced stealth systems to protect her from magnetic and mass-detecting sensors, as well as protecting her ion trail from detection. This can sometimes fool military sensor ships that rely on such detection methods. However, in order to hide from more basic detection methods, the crew must rely on basic silent running techniques to avoid detection.
- Missile Magnet: While initially included in the design, tests proved that the ship was too large for traditional chaff and flare systems to confusing incoming missiles. While the ship's jamming system is capable of confusing most missile guidance systems, the use of said system requires that the ship's crew be aware of a hostile missile lock and the direction of the approaching missile with enough time to point and activate the guidance jammer.
- Dislikes QQB: Though her point defense systems pack a punch, they are largely ineffective against the thick armor plating of larger capital ships. At close ranges, where using her torpedoes would result in damaging herself, the ship's only option is to flee to gain ground, or to maneuver her prow towards her opposition, often greatly limiting the ship's maneuvering options.
- Hide and Seek: While the ship's advanced stealth systems keep her ion drive trail hidden and protect from magnetic and mass-detecting sensors, the Roche-class lacks the more basic stealth protection, like reflec, that would hide her from standard sensors. For that, her crew and commander must rely on traditional silent running tricks.
- Thrust for Gravity: While the Roche-class gained a number of advanced features from the removal of the artificial gravity systems from her design, she gained a number of flaws as compensation. When not under active thrust, the occupants of the ship are in a zero-G environment and require magnetic boots to operate normally, or must familiarize themselves with floating. When under thrust, the ship and crew can experience as much as 3 times standard gravity, or greater under some conditions.
- Conflict of Gravity: Due to her unique internal layout, the crew of a Roche-class Corvette is greatly inconvenienced by operating near a strong gravity field or a planet. Though the ship is equipped with repulsor engines, the ship is typically restricted to vertical take-offs and landings only and is incapable of supporting its own weight on its drive cone.
- Awkward Landing: In order to properly land a Roche-class Corvette, she must be laid on her ventral side. She lacks landing skids, but her thick outer plating and sturdy design allows for the ventral side of the ship to support the weight of the Roche-class. In order to perform such a landing, or to take off from this position, all loose items must be physically or magnetically secured to a surface that shares a corner with both the ventral side of the ship and the aft side of the ship. This includes any crew or passengers not in their bunks or on the operations deck. To facilitate this purpose, a number of fold-out jump seats are placed throughout the ship. Each of these seats is built into a ventral wall and folds out flat with the floor. A crew-member would fasten themselves in a seated position with their legs flag and extended and their backs firmly against the wall. While horizontal, the forces of gravity make such crew-members feel as if they are laying on the floor with their feet against the wall. Once the ship takes off and goes vertical, each crew-member feels as if they are seated on the floor with their back to the wall. Crew-members on the Operations Deck or in their cabin must secure themselves into their chairs for the duration of the horizontal experience. In most cases, attempting to leave such a chair while horizontal will result in the given crew-member falling several feet.
