ASHES OF AUTHORITY
OBJECTIVE II: Boardroom Diplomacy
Zenith Spire, District 1, Denon
Dominique took a moment to regard the lovely
Blaire Sal-Soren
as she began to introduce herself. It was true they were a relatively small company, but she had Vexx's undivided attention. As someone that had forcibly clawed her way back to the top, Vexx knew all too well a company's current size was a poor measure of its potential.
Her smile softened a hair at Blaire's offer. Malastarian fuel contracts? Quite the introductory offer. With ports and indsutry as bustling as Denon's there was no shortage for fuel; to say nothing of the world being relative nearby. It was on the edge of the Alliance's influence, and would be at risk of being pillaged should war break out, but these were all standard variables taken into account when weighing an opportunity.
"I would love to show you some of our finest venues, Miss Sal-Soren." Dominique didn't mind hosting guests unlike some among the DireX. She'd gotten used to it as a Senator trying to soften the impacts of the Board to the galactic audience.
"And I'm certain Denon has opportunities the Senator will find to his liking as well." That their company had begun with and continued to engage in less strictly-speaking legal endeavors didn't much matter, did it? So long as they weren't trafficking sapient lifeforms through Denon -- or gave Denon plausible deniability with inspection-proof holds -- most other matters could be negotiated. After all, what was illegal on one world might be perfectly legal on another and wasn't it only fair to facilitate all trade equitably?
And then there was Darkwire. Dominique's smile didn't wilt at its mention. It was bound to surface. After all, it had gotten a fair bit of attention in the holonet and Galactic Alliance's Senate. Members of the Naboo Republic would want to know 'the truth' that might have gotten lost in the media; or, perhaps, they wanted to see just how far Vexx would go to downplay it.
Annis Riyaré
expressed her own curiosity on the topic, and added CorpSec's handling on top of it -- not to let Dominique focus solely on Darkwire's activities.
Like their Muun guest, Dominique was content to be patient as
Sossi Hallisk
started in on Darkwire first. Though his use of the word 'restore' wasn't quite the terminology Vexx had hoped to hear. Had the Senate's proclamation regarding corporate ownership really had that much of an effect? Or had it been the lockdown? A question she wouldn't ask because it would only open up a very unfortunate line of conversation.
Before she had a chance to speak about Darkwire, however, to placate concerns, Sossi posited an idea to 'restore' Denon's position in the galactic markets. An idea that immediately set Judah ablaze with the thought of corporate attack.
"I would, of course, be interested in reviewing the details of your proposal, Director Hallisk. We have countless corporate entities on the planet with a sizeable volume of merchandise passing through our ports. Denon would welcome efforts to bring stability and assurance to our partners," Dominique replied openly, but wouldn't approve a blank check. The man was intelligent, no doubt, but he was also a very savvy banker. The wrong agreement could sell the planet right out from under the Corporate Authorities' control. On the other hand, if his proposal would make them indispensible to Naboo and the galaxy that would be quite the boon.
With a smile, Vexx nodded in
Judah Dashiell
's direction,
"Recently, there was a faction of well-meaning individuals... the Foundation. A group that the Royal Naboo Republic had an interest in coordinating to handle an influex of immigrants, along with that of the Confederacy. With their recent, and abrupt departure there are countless worlds in need of your services. It may not generate capital like the Banking Clan's proposal, but Denon is grateful to offer you an opportunity to relocate your headquarters here to benefit not just the Republic, but all the worlds that surround it." The Muun might have focused on the financial aspect, but Dominique was also interested in the political one. If Naboo saw Denon involved in hosting someone such as Judah it might temper any preconceived notions or misgivings they had from the past. So long as Judah didn't relocate all those immigrants to Denon, of course, but Vexx trusted the man wouldn't consider such a thing.
There was little more to say about Darkwire, and likely both women were more keen on Denon's response; as loathe as Vexx was to bring it back around, she felt ignoring it might be that negative impression she sought to avoid. There might be some amount that was unavoidable, but not to manage their image at all would lead to the same problems they had with the Alliance.
"As for our disruptive anti-corporatists, their attempt on Valery Noble's life threatened an untenable diplomatic crisis. CorpSec was mobilized in force to find and bring Miss Noble to safety once we discerned she'd survived their initial attempt and were closing on her position. Were there unfortunate clashes resulting from such a rapid mobilization? Yes. But Valery Noble survived the assassination attempt, and kept Denon from being accused of subverting the Galactic Alliance's authority." That CorpSec wasn't directly or single-handedly responsible for Valery's safety was a minor detail. They had given it their all. And then some.
"While CorpSec followed established procedures at the time, efforts have since been undertaken to retool personnel and material alike in the extremely unlikely event such a crisis should occur again. There is no excuse for undue hardships for our citizens. If law enforcement partners of the Republic would like to review the new procedures, we would gladly welcome them to Denon to meet those responsible for its implementation."
