"Push your ship beyond its limits."

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create an overcapacitator for the closed market.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Comprehensive ship sensor integration, power distribution monitoring
  • Power grid management capabilities, redirects power to select subsystems
    • Amplification of redirected power via sybarium energy crystal, receiving coils
  • Failsafe protocol, shuts off before irreversible system damage via burnout
    • Manual override available
  • Reinforced Chassis and Structure
    • Omvendt Ablative Inertial Damper
    • Liquid-Aenite and Ethylene Glycol Coating, EMP Resistant
    • SACG-23S Shock-Absorbent Gel Cooling System
STRENGTHS
  • Power Surge: The RMR-15 Overcapacitator allows selected subsystems to enjoy boosted performance and power output, by both diverting all available energy to a specific subsystem and amplifying it with a sybarium energy crystal.
  • EMP Safeguard: The overcapacitator can provide a significant enough power surge to bring systems back online if shut off by an EMP blast, Ion-based damage, or similar.
WEAKNESSES
  • Burnout: The overcapacitator can only be active for a limited amount of time before failsafe protocols shut it off to prevent burnout of subsystems and the overcapacitator itself.
  • Power Prioritization: Boosting power to one specific subsystem with the capacitator will often come at the expense of power being diverted away from other subsystems.
DESCRIPTION
The RMR-S45 Overcapacitator is a module that allows for temporary hyper-amplification of power to a specific subsystem within a ship, greatly boosting performance for a short amount of time. A central power module that both redirects available power and amplifies it via a sybarium energy crystal and receiving coils, the Overcapacitator allows a specific subsystem to overperform for a short amount of time. Whether it is gaining extra acceleration from a thruster beyond its normal power threshold or more damage from weapon systems, the overcapacitator makes this temporarily possible.

Temporary is the name of the game, however. Despite Roble Manufacturing's advanced cooling technology, the amount of energy generated by the overcapacitator can quickly spiral beyond any attempt to cool it and has the ability to both burn out the overcapacitator itself as well as whatever subsystem is experiencing the power surge. Advanced sensors monitoring power distribution and heat levels will automatically shut off the overcapacitator before it crosses this threshold; however, this can be manually overriden at the expense of the overcapacitator or the ship itself. While manually overriding this failsafe protocol can push a ship beyond its limits, those limits exist for a reason and can often lead to irreversible damage to a ship's systems along with the destruction of the overcapacitator, which must be replaced after such an event.

The overcapacitator also serves as a countermeasure against EMP systems, providing a surge of electrical power that overrides damage to electrical systems and bringing systems online much more quickly.

Altogether the overcapacitator is a very useful module that can greatly enhance the performance of any given subsystem for a limited amount of time.
