OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a power generator that, in theory, generate electrical power in perpetuity.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The base of the generator features a large array of fins designed to rotate around a large shaft, with magnets installed at the perimeter of the fins in such a way that the polarity of the magnets is always the same as the polarity of the fins, which are built out of a magnetic material.
  • The repelling magnetic force causes the fins to rotate at an extremely fast speed and this rotation causes the secondary component of the generator located within the shaft to rotate as well, converting the mechanical energy of the rotating blades into electrical energy, which is then transmitted from the generator via dolovite-insulated malsarr cables.
  • The outer magnets can be manually or automatically retracted a distance from the rotating fins, to lessen the strength of the magnetic field between them to slow the rotation of the fins, as to not overheat or damage the internal components of the generator. The magnets can also be retracted and moved closer depending on power needs.
  • Layers of SACG-23S Shock-Absorbent Gel allow the generator to operate at higher rotational speeds without a compromising build-up of heat, and protect the individual components of the generator from internal damage.
STRENGTHS
  • Infinite Energy: On theory, the RMC-114 Magnetic Energy Generator can produce an infinite amount of energy without ever having to consume any kind of fuel source. While this is theoretical, and components will need replacement after heavy sustained use after the course of years, the magnetic energy generator still provides a clean and affordable source of energy.
WEAKNESSES
  • Electricity, not Fuel: The electrical generation of the magnetic energy generator is not on the same level nor the same type of energy generation as a starship reactor or fuel burner, meaning that propulsion units of vehicles and starships will need reactors or hypermatter annihilators to get airborne.
DESCRIPTION
Power generation, and the concept of infinite energy, has always been a fascinating subject that both intrigued and confounded the scientists and engineers of the galaxy for generations. Such conceptual ideas would make energy cheaper, more affordable, and free up resources for other types of consumption. However, the concept was thought impractical or impossible; that is until Alban Roble drew up the surprisingly simplistic but breakthrough plans for the RMC-114 Magnetic Energy Generator.

The operation of the generator is simplistic in idea and function; the generator uses the concept of polarized magnets to generate heat and friction, which is then converted by the generator into electrical energy. It does not require any fuel, no moving liquids, no rushing air, and no solar rays; just simple magnetic properties. In theory, the magnetic energy generator is able to generate an infinite amount of electrical energy. While this isn't quite the case, as components will eventually need replacing after sustained use over the course of many years or sooner, if the generator is providing power in an environment that induces more wear or tear on the generator, such as in military vehicles. Ultimately, however, the RMC-114 will still be able to provide clean and cheap energy to whatever station, vehicle, or starship installs it for power supply.

So this is a super interesting idea and you've obviously put a lot of work into the concept. I am a little concerned about the "infinite energy" concept with no real drawback, even with the reduced output you've mentioned in the sub's weakness section. Would you be open to increasing the need for replacement parts to months rather than years? I feel this would balance things a little better.

In practicality, this generator is only able to be used to power vehicles and buildings, not on the scale of cities or starcraft. A couple of years before replacement parts seems fair to me, given that the need for replacement comes from the erosion (essentially) of components, which is not an inherently fast process. However, I added wording to stipulate that the more wear and tear a generator receives (for example, if it's powering some military walker vs. an office building) the time period that it'll be operable before needing replacement parts will be shorter. Does that sound good?
