TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Specialized. This lightsaber is designed to allow the skilled or practiced wielder to take full advantage of the Makashi form of lightsaber dueling. Some Shii-cho and Djem So moves can also be used with it, but in both design and function it is intended to aid in classical lightsaber dueling.
  • Variable Blade Cutting Power. The combination of the krayt dragon pearl core and an Ossus dueling lens resulted in an extremely destructive and precise beam that boasted better-than-average cutting power for a lightsaber. The addition of a blade power adjustment knob enabled the wielder to fine-tune the output, to allow for non-lethal training sessions or increase power for cutting through thick objects as required.
  • Anti-Corrosive Construction. Being the lightsaber of a Nautolan Jedi, Riptide was created to remain fully functional even when submerged in water. The use of duralumin and agrinium in the construction of the hilt was done to mitigate the corrosive effects of salt water.
WEAKNESSES
  • Contact with pure cortosis will short out the weapon.
  • Increased Difficulty for Blaster Deflection. This is intended for lightsaber vs lightsaber combat and is not designed for use in either Soresu or Shien styles of blaster defense.
  • Overly Specialized. This lightsaber is designed for use with the Makashi style and so is either wholly disadvantaged or outright incompatible with other styles of lightsaber combat. It requires that the wielder be proficient with the Makashi style or practiced in classical lightsaber dueling in order to wield with any efficiency, and in most cases will be less precise or clumsy in comparison to a straight-hilt lightsaber without training and adaptation.
DESCRIPTION
The weapon of a Nautolan Jedi, Riptide was an antiquated design that harkened back to the days of the Old Republic, when Sith and Jedi clashed in lightsaber combat and the Second Form of lightsaber combat, Makashi, was at its prime.

A student of Jedi Knight Nefertari Sovint Nefertari Sovint , who studied the classical form and taught it to her padawan, Zak incorporated the retro ideal into his design to produce a curved-hilt lightsaber that was ideal for the Makashi-Djem So style that the boy developed under her tutelage. The addition of a focusing lens supplies a finely-tuned blade, while the krayt dragon pearl supplied the weapon with additional punch when connecting with an object or other lightsaber blade. The downside to the curvature in the design was that it required a variation in how the handle was held, as a result of which the lightsaber is more difficult to wield for blaster-bolt deflection.

The core krayt dragon shard produced an opalescent white blade, as well as gave the weapon a sound that was distinctive from other lightsabers when being ignited. That is, it produced a howl not unlike a faint echo of a Greater Krayt Dragon roar. Though longing to become a Jedi Guardian, because Zak is not yet a Jedi Knight, he has opted to keep the blade white rather than use a lens to create a blue coloring.
