  • Description: ri Nairis are nightmarish beings, twisted by the dark side and their own fear into creatures that haunt the dreams and nightmares of others. Their faces have faded away, completely obscured by dark side energies that bleed away from them, and their bodies have shifted into an amalgamation of scaly skin and tentacles. They constantly search out survivors and other sentient beings, delighting and feasting off the fear and nightmares they cause.

  • Distinctions: Having become embodiments of fear, the most distinctive trait of the ri Nairis are their blank and dark side shrouded faces and the tentacles that sprout from their body and have replaced their lower halves.

Strengths:
  • As they become living embodiments of fear, ri Nairis have naturally gained the ability to use Force Fear and Memory Walk on victims while moving through the world through a mixture of Force Sense and Force Sight. They use these abilities to both incapacitate their chosen prey and to feed upon their fears and thoughts. Like ri Arkis, these abilities also propagate their species by leaving an imprint of their presence within the minds of their victims, if they are left alive. This imprint gradually overtakes their minds, turning them slowly into a new ri Nairi.
  • The continued experimentation of the alchemists and sorcerers of the Sphere of Research and Science have allowed the creatures to release sleep-mist from their tentacles to knock out victims they encounter. They can release this mist through their mouths as a concentrated breath attack or through the pores of their tentacles for an area-of-effect explosion of the mist.
  • The other ability granted to them by the alchemists and sorcerers working on Project Sinful is a limited ability to turn themselves invisible through Force Cloak, allowing them to quietly infiltrate locations and unleash their terror unseen, and to Phase through solid surfaces. However, they cannot use both abilities at the same time and utilizing them can quickly tire them out and leave them vulnerable until they recover.
  • Their tentacles exude a strong adhesive that allows them to move over vertical surfaces or even hang from the ceilings of structures and rooms and can even be used to grapple enemies.
Weaknesses:
  • Their ability to inflict fear and nightmares upon victims, while potent, is not strong enough to affect trained Force users equivalent to Jedi or Sith Knights. The imprint they can pass onto their victims can also not affect a victim that is already corrupted by a different aspect of the dark side or are being bolstered by the light side of the Force with techniques such as Battle Meditation or Force Valor. Beings that are also able to face down their nightmares through sheer willpower or mental stability can also resist the effects and the imprint.
  • While the creatures can exude sleep-mist from their bodies, beings that have particularly strong wills or can command the Force can resist the effects of the mist. Strong winds and environmental systems can also clear out the area of the mist.
  • The light side of the Force is anathema to ri Nairis, even if they are drawn to presences that radiate the Force. When subjected to a direct application of the light, such as Force Light, the creatures are quickly burned away and killed, their souls so intertwined with the fear created by the dark side that they cannot survive otherwise.

  • Communication: Among others of their kind and other Sinful Sithspawn, they can communicate through various moans, howls, and hisses. They can also mimic voices they have heard speak in Galactic Basic, luring potential victims away from larger groups. They also understand commands given through the Sith language or through the dark side of the Force.

  • General behavior:
    • The need to spread fear is the overriding prerogative of the creatures; with everything they do in service to unleashing what they embody. They are generally individual hunters, preferring to remain unseen while they lull prey to sleep through their mists before using their powers to access the memories and dreams of their unconscious victim. While unleashing this terror, absorbing it in a horrifying feedback loop of nightmares to feed, they take perverse pleasure in causing their victims terror. Once they have latched onto victims, they will linger in that area for days as they feed on the same person or persons, leaving and fostering an imprint of their essence on them until the moment it reveals itself to them and begins to evoke the change in their victims into more of its kind. It then moves onto search for its next prey, leaving its new fellows to seek out their own prey.
    • Under the control of a dark side Force user such as a Sith, they act as infiltrators against enemy positions and their home fronts to sap morale and unleash fear within the ranks. Acting as cloaked terrors under the command of their Master, they will refrain from leaving too many imprints to reproduce, instead opting to shatter the morale and minds of its Master's enemies to make them easier to destroy or dominate. However, if the commands they receive deprive them or spreading fear for too long, they can turn on their controller and attempt to trap them in an endless cycle of nightmares as they drain them into a husk. Considering the similar behavior of other Sinful Sithspawn, the alchemists and sorcerers believe this behavior is the dark side punishing an errant Sith for not embracing all of its aspects.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

As the studies on the corruption of Elrood continued under the Sphere of Research and Science, the alchemists and sorcerers under Darth Arcanix became aware of entities warped by the dark side to embody fear and the fear the dark side and its practitioners unleash on the galaxy. These people, their identities bleeding away from the terror and breaking of their minds, were seeking out survivors and other groups to feed on the fear they were unleashing and were brought to one of the orbital stations keeping the planet under quarantine for further alchemy and sorcery experiments to accelerate their mutations.

The experiments warped their lower bodies into a writhing nest of tentacles and caused their faces to vanish away to a constant miasma of dark side energies, their powers focused and enhanced by the Sith to cement their ability to spread and feed upon fear. Dubbed the ri Nairi, of the Fear in the Sith language, the sorcerers overseeing the experiments for Darth Arcanix saw an opportunity for a new type of infiltrator to break the morale and minds of their enemies. They were gifted the ability to move unseen and through solid matter, allowing them better access to potential prey, and the alchemists manipulated parts of their body such as their sweat and saliva glands to produce a natural sleep-mist analogue to render victims unconscious.
