Nathan does not like using what he refers to as "Freak Crystals" normally and goes out of his way to avoid them. However, given the severity of his situation, even he could not ignore the protective benefits of the crystal within this Lightsaber. Sneering at it's supposed source, Nathan reluctantly keeps the weapon in a special area in case of emergencies, and never likes drawing it where other Jedi can see, and certainly would never carry it in public unless left without a choice, and just plain doesn't like using it in general, given how it intensifies his bond to his wife's killer while on his person, an unwanted effect he discovered after attunement.
Dangerously close to being an outright Force Relic already, Nathan is extremely wary of trying to make the weapon more powerful than it already is.

- Imbuement Difficulty: The very nature of the crystal itself makes it difficult to impart extra effects on it unless one is truly skilled. Nathan is still a beginner at imbuement, so whatever effects it has gained at the start of his journey with it, were purely quirks of attuning the crystal to him at that particular moment in his life (New effects will require a sub modification.)

- Agony: The crystal's attunement to Nathan massively amplifies his Force Bond to Syd whenever he holds it, and Syd, being the woman who murdered his wife, fragments of her damaged memories filter through, causing him psychological pain that can make it difficult to focus at crucial moments with extended use of the blade or it simply being around him for more than a day.
