Name: Resuspawn, or New Resu
Designation: Sentient, although bordering on Semi-Sentient
Homeworld: The Realm of Resu, specifically Shikyu
Language: Broken Resune, (Very) Broken Basic, Respawne
Average Lifespan: Most likely 20 years from birth to death, shorter for those who are converted. This is even shorter than the original Resu from the constant state of tug of war between machine flesh and true flesh.
Estimated Population: Thus far, the only population of the Resuspawn can be found on Shikyu... though it's only a matter of time before more Morossian Resu and Resu alike to be converted and the entire Realm of Resu is consumed by the Horde (assuming they do not flee the system in time to avoid such a fate).

Average height of adults: (Females) 4 meters tall when standing (typically) / (Males) 3 meters tall when standing (typically)
Average length of adults: (Females) 2 meter tail length when standing (typically) / (Males) 1 meter tail length when standing (typically)
Skin color: Silver and other metallic reflective tones, combined with dull grays and sometimes black.
Hair color: N/a
Distinctions:
  • Technoflesh - Similar to their Morossian Resu predecessors, much of their body is fighting against the magically self-generating technoviral flesh, providing them with the unique advantages that having machine flesh provides. However, it is not nearly as prevalent as it is for their predecessors, encompassing almost half of their entire bodies as opposed to near all of it.
  • Vongflesh - In a similar manner to their technoflesh, the Vongspawn Virus fights for control over the body against the Technovirus. It provides new flesh to the Resu (if it has enough nutrients to draw from) in the form of bony sprouts from the body, as well as (though more rarely) converting Technoflesh into Vongflesh due to the partially similar Sith Alchemy techniques utilized to create these viruses conflicting over one another. Vongflesh has allowed the Resuspawn to successfully breed in spite of the presence of the Technovirus. Strangely, offspring develop only with the Vongspawn virus, but are then infected by the Technovirus as well once they have hatched from their mothers eggsacs.
  • Four Tusked - Diverging from their original form, it seems the bony spines of the Vongspawn Virus have created an extra pair of Tusks on the Resu. Other similar extra protrusions exist throughout the body, manifesting in an overabundant number of backspines, extra claws, and rarely an extra set of teeth inside the mouth. Sometimes these mutations are helpful, other times they can be a hindrance (like an extra set of teeth too far back in the throat, making it difficult to swallow food, leading to malnutrition, leading to a viral imbalance, leading to brain death).
  • Toxic Tail - As a result of the introduction to the less rigid vong-flesh, the tails of these "Resu" have become flexible by nature, and at the tip possesses a sharp bladed stinger. This stinger is the location of the symbiotic plant which generates and holds the Resuspawn Toxin. The toxin itself is a cocktail of silicon and carbon-based cells produced by the exotic symbiotic plant, which can flood the bloodstream of a Resu and "carbonize" their silicon based tissues, in a hybrid carbon-silicon lattice. This lattice, is what allows the effects of the Vongspawn Virus to take root in tandem with the Technovirus. This means the stinger delivers a two-fold cocktail in the form of the "Resuspawn Toxin", which is responsible for converting Morossian Resu, or original Resu, into a new abomination: The Resuspawn, an unholy fusion of a specialized technovirus and the vongspawn virus concocted specifically for Resu biology.
  • Hydrogen Sacs - Just like their predecessors, organic-synthetic sacs of hydrogen rest on their back which supply their gills with hydrogen into their water tubes. As described below, these are a critical spot for the Resuspawn, which if severely damaged (which does not take much), hydrogen will not be distilled into their water tubes, and they will die from a lack of hydrogen going to the brain, which does not take long at all. Luckily, there are two of them, but only for each gill. This means that if only one hydrogen sac is burst, the Resu has a fighting chance to survival, but is severely weakened (essentially breathing as if they had one functional lung, to provide a simile to their situation).
Breathes: Hydrogen Distilled Water
Biological Strengths and Weaknesses (An addendum to the Biological/Technoviral S/W's from both the Resu and the Morossian Resu):

(+) Durasteel Patches - Similar to their Morossian predecessors, the Resupawn possess patches of skin and muscles as strong as Durasteel, though it is no longer as prevalent as it was in their predecessors thanks to the introduction of their Vongflesh. So in other words, they can absorb a good amount of damage without suffering too much, but are more fragile than their purely technoviral predecessor.
(+) Regenerative - Due to the combined effects of the Technovirus self-generating nature, and the new flesh generated by the Vongspawn virus working in tandem (and sometimes against each other), the Resuspawn boast an enviable regenerative ability. This though does take time for it take a effect, and drains their vitality and thinking consciousness if rushed for the sake of battle, making them weaker over all even if they replenish their wounds in battle.
(+) Toxic Transmission - The Resuspawn are the ultimate plague bearers, and are excellent at transmitting the technovirus, as well as the vongspawn virus into any and all species of both carbon and silicon biologies either through the use of their teeth, tusks, claws, back spines, or in the case of silicon life the Toxic barb at the end of their tails which holds the symbiote plant containing transformative Resuspawn Toxin.
(+) Rampant Breeders - Now that the Resuspawn are capable of breeding, hundreds, possibly thousands of Resuspawn are being birthed. They are a horde of lethal children. This is likely in response to their shortened lifespan likelihood, and response to the perceived population crisis.
(+) Fearless - They quite literally do not have the mental capacity to understand fear, which makes for one terrifying opponent.
(+) Brood Loyalty - Grudges between Resuspawn seems to be nonexistent, and their self-sacrificial loyalty to their brood mothers and their race seems absolute. They likely no longer posses the intelligence for rebellious behavior.

(+/-) Force Blind - Like all of their forerunners, they are incapable of perceiving the force in any capacity, now more than ever due to the introduction of Vongflesh suppressing any possible attunement.
(+/-) Slightly Improved Senses - Given their increasingly land based mutations, the Resuspawn's sense of infrared radiation has adapted better to a non-aquatic environment, and their electrical sense (although not as good as they would be in water) has improved slightly in non-aquatic environments. They are also developing a very rudimentary sense of smell. They are now capable of "smelling" something that is burning through their skin, but that seems to be the farthest extent of their abilities. In other words, their senses out of water are no longer a weakness, but are not so inherently good as to be considered a strength. For example, fire can still greatly distort their thermal vision, but with their new rudimentary olfactory sense of burning, they are now capable of recognizing when one is attempting to hide behind heat, and might be able to reach out with their electrical sense to locate them (unlikely).

(-) "Achilles Heel" - Hydrogen Sacs, located on their backs only moderately defended by back spines, are near-instantly lethal if pierced or otherwise seriously damaged. Another reason for the incredible lethality, is the fact they are filled with hydrogen, so if set ablaze by say, a blaster bolt, they will explode destroying both and massively damaging the body. They also must refill them with hydrogen every once in a while in order to breathe (this is done by swimming in their hydrogenated oceans, or physically attaching a tube to a specialized sphincter to accept the hydrogen gas into their sacs).
(-) Vulnerable Patches - Given that almost half their flesh is composed of the Vongspawn virus, much of their flesh is not protected by the Durasteel skin that they posses. This means that much of their flesh is exposed to damage and attack, particularly large portions of their torso/underbelly.
(-) Force Light - Now more than ever, being a composite of two viruses with some relation to Sith Alchemy, the use of Force Light is a lethal application of the force against them.
(-) Decreased Intelligence - Unlike their innately curious and intelligent ancestors, the shortened lifespan, increased hyper-aggressive nature, and viruses constantly warring over their bodies as well as their mind, the Resuspawn are among the least intelligent offshoots of the Resu to exist thus far. Their minds are merely a focal point for aggression, and lust.
(-) Susceptibility to Mind Control - Thanks to their decreased intelligence, and a closer relation to carbon based life as well as their mental patterns, the Resuspawn are more open to mentalist abilities of the force. Although largely immune to typical illusions given their unique senses (though that can be circumvented if an illusionist is skilled enough to create phantoms they can perceive), they are rather easy to influence through the use of force suggestion. They are even more susceptible to mind control attempts that are inherently derived of the dark side, given the largely Sithspawn nature of the Technovirus and partially from the Vongspawn virus.
(-) Prone to Traps - Given their insane hyper-aggression and instantaneous provocation, earning the attention and ire of a Resuspawn is simply a matter of existing and making it aware you exist. As such, setting it up for an ambush or similar traps couldn't be more simple. They are no longer very intelligent. Beware of Broods hunting together, however, they are more dangerous in groups.
(-) Uncomfortable in Standard Gravity (Lunar Specific) - Any Resuspawn derived from a converted Lunar Resu, or Lunar Morossian Resu, will be used to gravity that is 1/3rd Standard, and will thus be weaker for it when present in Standard gravity. Even if they possess difficulty existing in Standard gravity, do not underestimate their threat, as if they convert a Terrestrial predecessor, they will breed and lose this weakness. It is best to exterminate them before reaching such a stage.

Races: None as of yet, though it is likely that once they escape Shikyu and began to attack Terrestrial Morossian Resu, they will gain the natural increased strength of those races which exist in their Standard gravity environments.

Diet: Carnivorous, of both Silicon and Carbon based lifeforms. They are still intolerant of oxygen in their diet however, and sometimes develop allergies to meats possessing oxygen in their bodies.
Communication: Generally speaking they are capable of speaking Resune, a language consisting of electrical frequency discharges and field interactions, with more subtle infrared signally acting as social cues. However, most likely due to their decrease in intelligence, their Resune is considered 'broken' to other Resu predecessors, despite being fully capable of providing the subtle infrared signally that their immediate Morossian predecessor was largely incapable of. They are also capable of speaking Basic through a quasi-synthetic voice box, creating a semi-digitized audio voice or roar. Their Basic however, once again most likely due to their decreased intelligence, is very broken, only capable of single phrased thoughts or ideas, very rarely stringed together in anything cohesive.

Lastly, it has been observed that between two Resuspawn there is an unknown language which is foreign to Resune speakers, and has thus been dubbed Respawne. It is similar to Resune as far as the main body of the language, except it seems to incorporate more body motion (similar to the Morossian Resu), audio cues, and sometimes even physical contact.

Culture: Culture as it existed in either the Resu or the Morossian Resu, no longer seem to exist with the Resuspawn Horde. They seem to work together as a community of hunters, bent on the death or conversion of all other huntable life forms they encounter. There is no centralized leadership, or even multiple governments. Every one seems to derive from Broods, large groups of Resuspawn who are closely genetically related, and/or at least "descended" from the same Resuspawn who converted them. As such, there are no real unique strengths or weaknesses to the culture they have specifically, only because it very nearly doesn't exist. Some of the rituals which are practiced by the Resu surrounding birth are occasionally absent, such as the exact number which may survive their mothers jaws, or the father-role providing food to eat which guarantees infantile death. This may however, only be due to a biological response to a perceived population crisis, or possibly from their decrease in intelligence.

Technology level: Although they seem intelligent enough to use some of the familiar technologies of the Resu, they have largely abandoned its use in general, reverting to a more primitive state.
General behavior: If the Resu are bees, and the Morossian Resu are wasps, the Resuspawn Horde is a swarm of Killer Bees. They will sting you, and keep stinging you, until you either look like them, or die. There is very little (read: no) room for negotiation with these hyper-aggressive predators.

History:
Dawn of the Spawn...

In the year 849 ABY, a dozen years since the Moross Crusade had changed the Resu forever... they would face a new change. Twelve Shikyun Queens were arrayed before the First Convert Stone Hermes, and became the first Morossian Resu to be infected with the Resuspawn Toxin... becoming Resuspawn, the New Resu. The ramifications for this, are still being processed. May the galaxy pray the Resuspawn Horde remains confined to the Kathol Outback, for if they are released only chaos and death will follow.

As soon as the first queen (and mate to Stone Hermes) was fully converted into the abominable hybrid of machine flesh and vongflesh, she had forgotten nearly everything about herself and her race, giving in only into aggression to the point that it was senseless even to the hyper-aggressive Morossian Resu. Immediately, just as Stone Hermes was about to proclaim himself the living god, Aesir Liad the Plague Bearer, he was struck down by the Shikyun Queen, stabbed through the torso by her toxic barb. Once more, Stone Hermes would become the first convert of a new race (if we are to exclude the twelve Shikyun Queens), and would lose all sense of self... minus his final word: Liad.

Now with the Shikyun Queens and their collective mate Liad, conversion and breeding became their only concerns, and many Morossian Resu died fighting or were converted, while Liad mated with his Queens, inseminating them with what would become the first broods of the Resuspawn Horde. Shikyun's waters are now bloodied silver once more, as a new crusade carves through everything civilization represents.

It is the sort of threat that may make allies out of enemies, between the schismed Morossian Resu, and the CybeResu who protect their original kin. Can the horde of abominations be stopped? Only time will tell in the Kathol Outback.

Notable Player-Characters: None yet

Intent: To create the final evolution to this years long (since the founding of Chaos and the Factory) story-line involving the Resu.

So the submission is very nice, but... as it is the result of both a technovirus and a Vongspawn Virus, I'm gonna need some significant development for the species. Looking at about 60 posts unless you have a thread or two lying around detailing these things and how they were made

[member="Taeli Raaf"] I have innumerable threads detailing the creation and development of the technoviral portion of this creature, as that had been approved for over two years now in the form of the Morossian Resu (they were only just recently separated from the main Resu submission, into their own).

I have a few mediocre/incomplete threads from about a year ago suggesting this sort of approach, fusing the vongspawn virus to a technovirus infected patient, but in the most resent Kathol Outback Dominion (posts 32, 74, 75, 99, 100, 111, 114, 117, 124, 159, 160, 163. With a total word count of: 7723 not including post contributions made by Neelig or Bryce. If we cut out everything other than what is directly related to their formation, the word count is still, 2456 words) which absorbed their planet, a number of lengthy posts were dedicated to explaining just that process in a good amount of detail. Out of the twelve posts so far (may do one more for closure), around a third of them were directly tied to the conversion of the first twelve Queens. The other portion were dedicated to the war and history which acts as the background catalyst for these things even 'needing' to be created in the first place. The 'abominations' as they were called in some of those posts, were related experiments to the Resuspawn before they were successfully converted.

I suspect another thread will be likely required for the Resuspawn Toxin, which I would like to count for this species as well, if needed, considering they are so closely tied together.

Considering all that, do you require extra links, or would the thread listed above be acceptable (or enough to considerably reduce the stated 60 posts of dev)?

[member="Taeli Raaf"] Do you require any dev threads in relation to the Technovirus developed over the years, or is that 40 post count solely for the Vongspawn/toxin portion?

Well-Known Member
[member="Taeli Raaf"] It'll take me some time to get up to the forty posts, so you may archive this or whatever the standard procedure is for submissions awaiting requested dev threads. :)

(though I do loathe that part...)

[member="Reverance"] Should this submission be updated to the current template, or keep it as is to get judgment moving? Where would you like this link (was intended to be longer before I knew I was leaving for bootcamp next month, and considering the pace of the thread in question...)?

[member="Fatty"]

Sorry I didn't catch this, been distracted with other responsibilities. For now, stick with this template and put the thread where it normally would go (as relevant roleplay) and I will discuss the matter with Mahet. If it needs changing to the new template, I will let you know.

This species has a lot of traits and strengths to it, but I feel the weaknesses balance this submission fairly.

However, I couldn't find any references (unless I missed them, then I'm sorry!) to the conversion process itself. Could you explain how the conversion works, how long it takes, and what the success rate of the conversions is like? As well as any necessary details you feel the need to mention. The only thing I can tell is that the tail may be involved.

This would be your explanation, if you require more clarity here I am more than happy to oblige :) But yes, the Stinger is what allows the Resu, or Morossian Resu, to be affected by the Vongspawn Virus portion of the Resuspawn Toxin, in order to become a Resuspawn.
