Description:

Following a renewal of Mandalorian aggression against the Republic, the Jedi Arisa Yune began to pour over Mandalorian battle tactics and history to develop effective counter strategies in advance of further conflict. In her research, she would eventually come across the events of Roche, which was the point that relations between the Mandalorians and the Republic took a turn for the worse. This had been the site of the infamous incident where several non-combatants were vented out of a hangar in a gambit by Republic soldiers to dislodge entrenched Mandalorian combatants. After reviewing classified reports and court records, she had concluded that the soldiers had borne no ill intent against the innocent non-combatants, but it had certainly been a poor decision on their part to take such a risk that would have long-standing consequences for the Republic. Relations not only deteriorated with the Mandalorians, but also allies like the Galactic Alliance.

On the flip side, she found it troubling how the name of the late Aaralyn
Rekali and other victims was constantly invoked as a justification of many for continued hostilities against the Republic. She had never known the woman personally, but she imagined that as a fellow Jedi that she wouldn't have approved of the violence from either side.

With that thought in mind, she started working on a solution to help mitigate civilian casualties in such scenarios and to make efforts to mend relations with the Mandalorians for the good of the galaxy.

Cobbling together components from off the shelf, she came up with the design of the Rescue Pod, a tiny unmanned craft that could be immediately launched from a station or ship to retrieve people who would otherwise be lost to the vacuum of space.

In its folded form, the pod resembles a large cone at about a meter in length. However, when deployed, the cone expands into the shape of a sphere as its petal-like flaps envelope the survivor and seal together to form a protective shell. The pod locks onto the survivor for retrieval by a small transponder that can be either worn or embedded into the body, triggered as the wearer is detected exiting the ship through a breach.

After the shell is formed, the stasis field generator will activate to place the survivor in a suspended state for preservation for proper medical attention later. Protective measures like a personal energy shield and
biorestorative underlay are included to insulate the occupant against radiation and small debris.

Following successful retrieval, the pod will rendezvous with a friendly assigned vessel, but if one is not available, then the pod will attempt to maintain its position for easy location later, periodically squawking its coordinates over a simple
hyperwave transceiver.

While the pod's surface is covered with solar panels to keep its cells charged, that alone isn't enough to keep the energy intensive system fully powered. The pod has about two or three weeks worth of operation time before it will fail, depending on conditions for solar collection.

In a pinch, the Rescue Pod can be manually triggered by a user to act as an impromptu escape pod. This feature is handy for small craft that can't normally support dedicated escape pods. It should be noted that the Rescue Pod is not designed for reentry.

When she was satisfied with her
prototype, she submitted it to the biotech firm Panacea to refine the design and begin mass production. In the deal she worked out with Panacea, a portion of the company's profits would go to select charities for war orphans, while she personally donated all her royalties made. As a token of good will to the Mandalorians, she made the design of her original prototype open source so that anyone may use the design and/or develop their own derivative.
