She just swatted a hand at him, as if to say “oh stop it, you”. Both Gatz and Inanna were the self-deprecating sort, though Inanna found it difficult to bemoan her low intelligence when her apprentice was always beating her to the punch. We share about one brain cell between us, she thought with a little smirk. Hopefully it won’t prove the end of us both.

Gatz had no questions, but he did muse aloud about their passengers, the rebel survivors. “In my experience, nothing helped but time,” she said. “It took years for me to find a home and a place to belong again. In the meantime, I helped others. That gave me purpose. But it’s probably different for everyone.

Standing up, she popped the seal of her environmental suit, removing the helmet and heaving a sigh. She was more tired than she thought. “If you’re all right here, I’ll go and get some rest.” With that, she headed for the shuttle’s private quarters.
