Repairing the Wreckingball

On Mandalore, Nyos stood with cargo in tow, he was here to perform a surgery for the allied Mandalorians. His contract an ancient one, but the promise kept just like the day he'd signed it. Any and all Mandalorians seeking Cybernetic Prosthesis would get them at a large discount. This was no different with a soldier named Nolan Detta. He'd been seriously wounded in a duel that had shattered not only the man, but his honor as well.

A sad sight to be seen when Nyos met with Nolan and his wife [member="Satine D'ulin"] and their children [member="Kaylanna Detta"] and [member="Corvus Detta"], as the three pushed Nolan into the Operating Room by hover chair, at a Keldabe Medical Center. He lost his left arm completely and his left foot, a prosthetic, was badly damaged, as well were most of his organs and bones. A Massive surgery was about to take place, as well as the largest cybernetic construction he'd ever undertaken. He'd need to replace 90% of Nolan's rib cage, his left lung, a kidney, his heart and parts of his spine/spinal column. This would be very risky, but if it was successful, Nolan would be back to 100% in no time.

He'd be using new techniques and technology to make this surgery happen. Being mostly metal himself, Nyos could comprehend what Nolan was going through with this operation.

"Hello, Mr. Detta, I'm Nyos Val, and I'll be performing your surgery. Madam Satine, I am to understand you could help me with casting the Beskar he is using for the surgery? Younglings, I will need your help the most. You are going to be my assistants. Your father needs you to help make him better."

Satine and the children had been present at the duel they had seen Nolan who was the strength and backbone of Clan Detta defeated, wounded to the point that death could overtake him at any moment.

They walked quietly to get Nolan to someone who could help someone who could find a way to at least make him whole again. But Satine knew that giving her husband a body was not the same as giving him strength and peace of mind. She would have to wait to see how he recovered there.

"We have smith's who can forge the metal you need only tell me what you need and I will see to it that it is done" She could not forge it herself but she could ensure it was taken care of. She looked at her children trying to keep brave faces. When Nyos included them it as a relief that they would feel apart of this process and not stuck waiting for word

Nyos smiled, he was a genuine person, most could attest to that. The children, of which he had none, were the most important part of a fathers life. They were his legacy, and to have them there, Nyos could imagine that it did wonders for Nolan's spirit. As Nyos escorted Nolan to the operating table and laid him down. Out of a back door, three Medical grade droids appeared with carts of supplies. The most important cart was that of the replacement organs. A new model developed especially for Nolan. He would be the test run. Now, Nyos hadn't included this information because, aside from the general lack of favor that idea usually brought, Nyos was confident in his skills to succeed.

First on the list, was wiring the MCD into Nolan's brain and threading the fiber optic 'nerves' to where they will attach to their respective organs. This process alone will take an hour of carefully tracing nerve pathways and nerve clusters to map the whole body and insert the micro-cables. While this was going on, two of the medical droids were implanting the MCD into the brain stem. The last one was activating all of the organs and ensuring functionality before they are transplanted. Nyos peeked up at [member="Satine D'ulin"] and the children, sure that they'd be worried about Nolan's safety. He knew Mandalorians were strong, but watching a loved one cling to life may be the most difficult occurrence in the known universe. Nyos needed to focus on his task, as it was to be his best work yet....

Satine watched it was all she could do really in these moments. Helpless, she hated that word and now she was exactly that she could offer things get things but she could not really help her husband right now.

What Nyos Val was doing, was beyond her skills. She felt her children get closer understanding that Nyos was putting things into their father's brain.

Satine finally felt the shivers of doubt seeping into her thoughts, will he still be my husband when this is over? How much of the man will be left?

She couldn't help it she reached for her children a reassuring hand on each shoulder for them, and herself.

"How long does the procedure take?" She asked though she knew it would take hours.

[member="Nyos Val"]

[member="Satine D'ulin"]

Nyos finished the first part of the procedure in just under 45 minutes. He turned to Satine when she posed her question.

"This may take the whole day. It depends on how well his body can handle the stress and if they accept the prosthetics. If he rejects them at all, it may be fatal. I need to take as much care as I can. The Force only knows what is to come, but I have faith in him, so to should you. And I promise, on my reputation and my company that he'll be the same as he was before the injuries."

Turning to Corvus, "Young man, might you please assist me? I need you to go over to the console there and hit the activation command. That will turn on the device I've just implanted. It's purpose is to connect each prosthetic together and shield them from external damage."

"Young lady, for you, I must ask that you assist with my droid here in assembling the spinal prosthetics. My droid is capable, but I need your small fingers and fresh eyes to keep him in line." He gave a playful smile to little Kaylanna.

"Miss D'ulin, if I may, you will be in charge of overseeing that the Beskar is forged properly. With that,...MD-22, will you escort Satine to the ship. You two will go to the forge and caste me the prosthetics I need. One left arm, fitted to my specifications, and the rib cage. MD has the blueprints in his hard drive, off you go, there's no time to waste." Still smiling, Nyos was excited to work with people, and this poor soldiers family no less. They would each have a hand in saving their father/husbands life.

"Now Nolan, you must bare with me, these next few steps will not be pleasant."

[member="Nyos Val"]

Satine accepted the task but even though the reassurances came from the doctor she worried. This procedure would put Nolan at risk once more, this life they lead was one often filled with danger, and life or death but she had not thought to see her husband so badly injured.

"MD-22" she spoke the droid's designation, "let's go shall we" She slowly let go of her children, difficult for her to do but she did it. She turned completely away and headed out towards their ship. They would need to go to the forge, that would require more movement on her part. She was not a metal worker but there were those around them that could.

Where would Satine find the forge? I'm confused on this

[member="Nyos Val"]
Kaylanna looked at the form of her father never had she seen him this still, the doctor wanted her to work with the droid she knew that it was just to keep her busy. She looked at her mother as she walked away, and then over to her brother.

She went towards the droid reaching out to touch the pieces that were going to help her father. She did have small fingers, she knew that, and she knew that she'd miss her father terrible if anything happened to him.

What was Corvus doing?

[member="Satine D'ulin"] [member="Kaylanna Detta"] (as for the forge, make it up, create your own for this scenario)

Nyos looked to the task at hand. The spine needed to be partially reconstructed, and young Kaylanna was going to be his assistant for this part.

"Alright young lady, put some gloves on and please hand me the first pieces of the prosthetic. MD-15 should have them done and set aside for you by now. Those ones there on the table." Nyos pointed to a completed spinal column and the first two vertebrae.

"Now, I need you to hold the column vertically like the length of your body, I'll fix the wires together so I can install it." He welded the wires together and guided Kaylanna to attaching the wires to the MCD, "Second...move the column here and let's put it into place."

Nyos knew this would be hard, but these were born warriors and were bound for a life of violence, as it was their custom. He knew she could take it, but making a child see their parent in this state, may scare them, hopefully the former was the case.

"Perfect, now, the first vertebrae goes like this...'click'... and the second goes here...'click'... Perfectly done youngling. Almost as good as 15 could have done." Nyos smiled. His encouragement was aimed to give hope. Hope that she was making Nolan better, which she was, but it should take her mind away from his situation and look to the future where he is fully restored.

Over the Corvus, "alright lad, I need that MCD turned on, hit the big red button and press Enter on the console."

[member="Kaylanna Detta"]

Corvus stood at the computer and looked over the keys. He found the indicated red button and pressed it. On the screen came an alert, warning him that he was about to activate the device that was now implanted into his father. He hesitated for a moment, worried that he'd mess up some how. Breathing in deeply, he depressed the Enter key and heard a boot up sound come from his fathers head.

Kaylanna was working side by side with the doctor in charge. Mildly jealous, he knew his duty so he stayed at his post. A good soldier stayed where he was ordered. Like his father taught him.

"Done sir!"

The third medical droid was working on the rest of the organs, assembling the last pieces and testing functionality. MD-13 was the eldest droid in Nyos' staff. He'd been the one who performed all of Nyos' cybernetic procedures. Back, all the way to the Bando Gora crisis, 13 had almost lost Nyos a dozen times, but his programming was the best Nyos could buy, and with clouds to 10,000 known surgeries and procedures, he was the highest ranking Medical Droid on staff at InVal Cybernetics.

He was finishing the liver and kidney when he got an alert that the heart wasn't running at the required BPM. Staying well below the average BPM, which was between 65 and 80, it was averaging only 25. At that low of a rate, it would barely pump enough blood to keep Nolan's eyes open, let alone the rest of his body. This was a major issue. After scanning the prosthetic heart, 13 noticed a loose wire inside the secondary valve, it wasn't closing all the way, this not creating any pressure to build up. This meant blood was lax and flows like a river with no current. The primary valve was working overtime to make up for the difference and would burn out soon if not corrected.

13 opened up the heart and using his surgical precision, he located, removed and replaced the bad wire. Upon inspection, it looked like the heart suffered a severe overload of power, causing this wire to short out. Upon further inspection, 13 determined it was caused by the lack of Pyronium wiring. This heart was made with standard copper. The Pyronium could absorb am innumerable about of energy and with the use of Rybcoarse, the extra power was necessary. It also meant that Nolan could never be restarted by simple CPR or defibrillation. He'd need raw electricity from lightning or a transformer. It also meant the MCD would need to be in peek working order.

13 moved over to Nolan and began scanning the MCD. Luckily it came up clean and operating at 100%. So the heart was the only part that needed repairs. Easy as pi.

There were smith's not far from where they had brought Nolan in, she hoped that they would take the credits and be able to work the metal . She'd pay whatever she had to. Walking into the smith's forge she could feel the heat and smell the smelting in the air.

She nodded, "I'm looking for the Beskar Smith who can make these for me" She produced the plans, "I know it will take a little time but it's important and I will pay whatever the amount is" Nolan's life was more precious to her than any amount of credits.

A large burly man covered in soot from the forge approached her, "let's see it" She handed everything over and waited. He seemed to study the plans for a long time, "Delicate work"

Satine nodded, "for my riduur who is injured"

the Smith looked at her again, "A vod?"

"Yes ner vod"

He nodded, "I can do this we will talk price when I"m done"

Satine nodded again, "I'll wait"

Kaylanna put on the gloves the snapped at her wrists and they felt funny inside. She couldn't help but make a face. She did as the Doctor told her she was fascinated and grossed out at the same time.

She picked up the pieces and handed them over. She knew inside she was helping to save her father but this was gross.

She looked over to [member="Corvus Detta"] to see what he was doing, she didn't like him being too far from her. She smiled.

But then turned her attention back to what the doctor needed her to do.

Nyos looked over the patient; he had to distance himself to prevent any possible emotional strife to occur. As much metal as he was, he still had a heart that felt sorrow for this man. He'd done what he could for his family, but it was not enough. Nyos had seen too many die on his table during the wars of the Bando Gora and beyond. He was a doctor and CEO now, but a soldier before all that. When it came to honor, that came before all else.

As MD-13 fixed Nolan's heart, Nyos moved onto the liver and kidneys. Little Corvus and Kaylanna were proving their lineage was worth its salt. As young as they were, they were strong and brave as any he'd served with in the Protectorate.

"Alright, we're approaching the half way point. Kaylanna, 13 and 15, continue with the spine. They will tell you what to do lass... Corvus, you and I are moving into the liver and kidneys. At the console, key in the command "Alpha-01" and hit "Enter". Then hand me that servo-driver and the ratchet."

____________________

MD-13 took the first section of spine and began to solder the nerves into the wiring. This was a painfully slow process. While this was going 15 and Kaylanna would be assembling the rest of the spine.

<Youngling, acquire product number 3C and 7G. The vertebrae and the connectors. Attach 7G here with a drill-driver. Subsequently, I'll be attaching 3C to your part.>

Assembling the spine was rudimentary programming for 15, but he did as Master commanded. This lifeform needed the remedial work and 15 wasn't going to defy his programming.

With Corvus at the console, Nyos was free to implant the liver and as the commanders entered, the liver began processing the body's waste and toxins. The Rybcoarse in the liver would boost processing by 18%, meaning getting drunk would take longer and last less time, medication would work faster and toxins could be filtered quicker. In combination with the implanted kidneys, Nolan would be almost immune to natural toxins like alcohol and poison gases, although he'd need to build up a tolerance first. It would take some time, but not much.

The organs having been finished would signal the 50% mark. Now, the arm and rib cage would be the last parts. Satine was off getting the arm built and Nyos had the rib cage ready for implant.

[member="Satine D'ulin"] [member="Corvus Detta"] [member="Kaylanna Detta"]

The smith worked the metal into the shapes that [member="Nyos Val"] needed for Nolan Satine kept a careful eye on each peace as it was forged from the pieces of metal with no shape or purpose until the smith melted it completed down into the liquid form and formed the pieces needed for Nolan.

It was an extraordinary process to watch knowing what these pieces would do for Nolan parts of him would be indestructible, and yet parts of him would still be vulnerable to pain, suffering, and death. She looked to the droid who would point out the flaws in the work noting that it must be perfect .

Perfect.

Nolan had been so perfect on the day they had met. A warrior through and through, his heart beat loud and true. They had a whirlwind romance clinging to one another, and never leaving each other until the Netherworld. She had been taken, and what she saw then would forever haunt her.

Now her father was dead. She was sad but..he did not really have a relationship with her, but still he was gone. Nolan, Kaylanna and Corvus were all she had now they were her family. Mya had disappeared with her husband and son. One day perhaps she would look for them.

A voice drew her back, "they are working the final pieces mam"

Satine nodded.

Kaylanna frowned she was only 7 why was she having to do this?

oh yeah, her father. Who she loved who loved her he needed her help, all of them to help.

it was hard to be so serious when one is only 7.

She wanted to play she wanted to have things they way they were before not like this.

her fingers worked as she peered at it closer..

The liver and kidney having been finished, MD-13 and Nyos went over the patient to make sure the implants were taking. Vitals appeared normal and brain activity was surprisingly active. Nolan was dreaming in there. With all the trams his body was experiencing, he was able to dream. That was impressive. Mandalorians were a breed that by many galactic standards, were the most hardy and difficult to break race in the known universe.

Nyos looked to the mans offspring and with a smile that matched his intrigue, he would appear proud to be here. On Mandalore with this family, what strength they all had to be willing and able to help so adamantly. Any other family on any other planet wouldn't be able to be in the same room as Nyos, yet these younglings were working Woth Nyos to fix their father. And Miss Satine, being able to leave them here and go off to finish a task, strength wasn't a strong enough word for this families capacity.

[member="Kaylanna Detta"] [member="Satine D'ulin"]

Satine came back with the medical droid in a case, carefully protected they carried all of the pieces that were needed for Nolan. She waited as she looked in she couldn't help that part of her felt overwhelmed by watching them literally rebuild her husband.

Oh Nolan was all she kept thinking but she looked them at Kaylanna and Corvus who worked with such great care to help their father. They would remember doing this all their lives she imagined, sorry that they would, but yet glad they would. They were helping to save their father.

That was what family was for helping one another, it was clan life it had always been clan life.

She smiled. It was a comfort.

[member="Nyos Val"]

[member="Satine D'ulin"] [member="Kaylanna Detta"] [member="Corvus Detta"]

As Nyos finished stitching up the Mandalorian's insides and had thrown in a little surprise. While he was rebuilding the rib cage, 13 had moved on from the finished spine and given Nolan's entire body Rybcoarse implants. Making him twice as strong as he was before. His whole body would be working at 200% capacity. Blood moved faster, neurons fired quicker and muscles flexed/extended stronger than any normal human.

As Satine returned with the arm and foot, Nyos, MD-13, 15, and 22 began attaching all of the parts together then subsequently to Nolan's shoulder and ankle respectively.

"Younglings, you have done very well. And Miss, you also. You've all helped recover the life your Aliit'buir lost. I've added a bonus to the arm. Repulser generators have been installed inside the hand. This is a weapon he can use to destroy duracrete, deflect melee weapons and shred skin and break bone on contact. The only downside is he must be wary of its controls at the start. He could potentially harm you three by accident. Keep him mindful and keep him training on its uses. Last part is in place, let's wake him back up. Corvus, would you like to turn on his implants for me, on the console like before. Enter command "Initiate Alpha-04". Lady Kaylanna, administer the counter-anesthetic to wake him him. Satine, you and I will greet him first. He'll need to get use to his body. So he needs to move slow."

So she had to get this straight her husband now possessed in the palm of his hand a way to kill her and their children if he wasn't careful. She had to look away the doctor had reassured her that her husband would not be changed, but he was changed.

She had fallen in love with his strength, his courage, his ability to think outside the box, his honor, his ability to make her laugh and the way he held her precious and protected. His mind would be the same his body changed. Satine was struggling too, but Nolan came first, she would see to his needs see to it that as fiercely as he protected her she would now do for him.

"Yes Doctor" she smiled, "will it take long for him to wake up?"

Would what the doctor had done be sufficient, would Nolan be pleased with it?

[member="Nyos Val"]

Nyos noticed the averted look at the mention of the weapon installed. He may have explained it incorrectly.

"Not to worry, he'd just need to train with it. Like a new muscle, it must be worked. But he'd need concentration to do so. You'll need to designate a training schedule so he can learn to turn it on and off. It's not impossible, he may get it right away, he's a natural survivor, he'll know what to do." He gave a reassuring smile.

"He should wake in about 10 minutes. I'd say grab a coffee, some food, he'll be hungry too I'm sure."

The vitals were normal, the brain was functional and he was about to have most of his life back.
