Renegade Reception

Halama City - Halamir
qDr6oqe.png

It must have been something they ate on Halamir that made some so large. Leo knew that she was exceptionally tall and built, even among her own family, and one of her most trusted advisors, Galatene, who stood before her at that moment, was a man just as tall and beefy, though that was likely due to him being a Barabel... Beside him stood Kiyar-Dan, an Ongree man who acted as a diplomat of sorts. That is, if the Horde had diplomats. He merely acted as a go-between to send messages if need be, and occasionally he would also act as an advisor.

Leo herself was sitting in a makeshift 'throne' of sorts at the end of a grand hallway at the heart of Halama City, although it was far from cozy, made that way purposely so that no Horde Boss could get too comfortable in their seat of power. Jagged metals lined most of it while the back 'cushion' was thatched roughly with all different types of splintered wood. A Horde Boss could never complain about such a seat, as it would be a clear-cut sign of weakness and indication that they couldn't handle the stresses of leading a Horde. Leo had cut herself on the throne several times over the course of her eleven-year rule, but she made sure to never vocalize the pain it caused her, remembering that it would always pale in comparison to her responsibilities.

"Just as the empires grow, so too do their enemies in number," Galatene told her. "The core is lost, but the rage of its people has been found. Renegades are born anew, and they will fight for us. They will be the straws to break the empire's back."

"The empires have had all too many straws on their backs already," Leo responded. "The Sith Empire alone has been fighting off our kind for too long. They've learned while we've just begun. Don't get a big head just yet, Galatene, not until we prove ourselves against the greater beasts."

"As you say, boss," the Barabel man said with a nod. "No matter the struggle, I look forward to the challenge."

Leo smirked, hearing exactly what she would have expected from someone she put so much trust in. "As do I. As do we all, I hope. Let me see these would-be renegades. I'd like to gauge them before they prove what they are. You know how much I enjoy smelling fresh meat."

"They've been arriving one after another," Kiyar-Dan informed her. "The largest number of new refugees I've ever seen all at once..."

Leo stood from her throne, slowly taking each individual stride down the shallow staircase that led up to her dais. "If they came here instead of the Rebel Alliance, then let's hope they know what they've chosen. If not, they may end up broken before the end of the month. Get Brenett and Veriss to size up those that I'm unable to get to. I'll leave the rest to the two of you. We have a long few days ahead of us, boys. And even longer years to come."

As she stood out in the open sunlight in Halama Square, where the Halamirians both new and old were gathered around, she raised her heavy hammer into the air before crashing it down on the stone beneath her, causing a deafening sound as the ground quaked from the impact. Cracks reached as far as five meters around the hammer before she hoisted it back over her shoulder again. Having gathered the crowd's attention, all she had to do then was wait for the introductions to come to her. Meanwhile, her sister, Veriss, and a good friend of hers, Brenett Storm, would be elsewhere in the city awaiting arrivals.

Veriss would have been closer to the rail station that connected them to the reaches outside of the cities, and Brenett would have been waiting around the commercial district, probably while grabbing some of the sweets available there. Both of them would be outside buildings designed to process refugees, some of the longest-standing stone huts in the city.

Errreembuhr was completely sure that whoever this Horde Boss was they knew of his arrival in the system long before he finished making the short hyperspace jumps between the opening in the nebulae and the actual star system proper. Still, the Wookiee took his time with the jumps, only going as fast as he needed to. After all, it wasn't everyday that one got to see the edges of dark nebulae up close. Compared to the rest of space it was almost surreal, a massive blob of absolute darkness that went on for who knew how long. He'd never visited this system, not even with his old crew, as back then it was under Sith rule and they made it a point not to deal with the Sith. But now there was a new leader, or so he'd heard. A new Horde Boss that brought with her new rules. Rules that would hopefully allow for him to expand into the sector.

When he saw the bright star up ahead he knew the roughest part of the journey was over. With the jump coordinates and turns now logged on the cruiser's navicomputer, Errreembuhr would be able to return whenever he needed to. Though depending on how this visit went, he wasn't sure whether he would be or not. With the final approach the only thing left, he continued on into orbit, departing the cruiser on his shuttle once he was in range.

The spaceport in Halama City was busy, though without much trouble to get himself situated. As a Wookiee he always looked out of place, though given his limited observations, there was enough diversity in the city to keep him under the radar. Or at least he assumed it would. For now.

Coming out of hyperspace with what was left of her fighter, a bruised and battered Airi Tobec would struggle to get a handle as she hurdled towards Halamir's atmosphere, coming down like a meteor into the what she could only imagine were ruins down below. All of her efforts to fight the pull and straighten herself out could only accomplish so much as she entered the atmosphere, flames blinding her across the windshield as she screamed in agony, straining every last bit of strength she had left, both physically and mentally, to force the jammed panel before her to cooperate with little success.

Without being able to see what it was she had collided with, the fighter rattled hard and practically skipped along a surface that she could guess was a body of water. She began to spin along its surface, what was left of the hull continuing to be torn apart along its turbulent path. When the craft flipped, she braced herself as she was jostled around in her seat, everything around her crashing and falling apart at its seams until finally she came to a halt, sliding upside-down along solid land.

With fresh blood trickling down her nose and forehead, she tried to gain her bearings, watching her short lekku dangling above her. Or, rather, below her. Her right leg was certainly broken, and her left elbow had a severe gash running along it, exposing some of the bone underneath. It had happened so quickly she didn't have the chance to notice when any of it had happened to her, and it still wasn't over.

She loosened herself from her seat, trying her best and failing to gain her balance before crashing down onto the broken glass of the windshield. As carefully as she could, she lifted herself from the mess of glass, looking at the blood she had stained it with from new cuts on her back and shoulder. A desperate groan escaped her lips in the process, mostly out of fear. It was then when she realized she was shaking violently, making it all that much more difficult to make her way out of the cockpit from the side through a large gap in the windshield.

Cutting her leg on the way out, she whimpered pitifully in pain, but remembered to reach back in to pull out her scatter gun from a battered compartment beside her seat. She then attempted to tear a part of her shirt off, but was too weak with her one good arm to rip it at all, so instead she pulled off her beige headpiece that held her lekku, now stained with red, and wrapped it around the wound on her elbow as best as she could, using the sand of the beach to keep her arm in place.

Spitting out the blood that was in her mouth as it dribbled down her lips, she used her gun as a support as she crawled along the ground at a pace that wasn't likely to get her anywhere anytime soon. Before her was a vast valley made up of strange structures, mostly ruined, that she was in no place to stay and marvel at as she made her way through. She could feel eyes on her from behind the rubble and bramble, but she felt too weak to call out to them.

When she noticed a Sullustan making himself known within view of her, she missed another, larger, more intimidating figure coming out in front of her, driving her into a quick panic. As he raised a primitive club up above her, she fell backward and shakily fired her scatter gun in his vicinity, only grazing his large gut and causing him to grunt and stumble around in pain. Before she could take into account the heavy, crunching footsteps behind her, a fist had come wailing across the back of her head, and everything went dark.

With her foot propped up on the business end of her hammer as she held the handle with one hand, she could see an unmistakable figure making its way through the square. A Wookiee, and one with cybernetic enhancements, something she hadn't seen before. Halamir was no stranger to Wookiees, but even among them, this one stuck out.

"Respect for the Wookiee!" she called out, trying to grab his attention. "You are new to Halamir, I can tell, but you're in the right place! I promise you that much!"

After she was done telling a Mon Calamari woman that she was in the wrong place, Veriss turned to two Gamorreans who each held an arm of a barely conscious blue Twi'lek.

"We found this pilot," one of them said, pushing the Twi'lek closer to Veriss as she barely stood on her own, using the railing beside them to balance herself. "Crash landed in our territory. Shot our people."

Veriss held the bottom of Airi's chin up to get a better look at her face. "Where did you come from, pilot?"

In a wheeze, Airi responded, "Galactic... Alliance... Drove out... by Sith..."

"Gods," Veriss said under her breath, noticing all of the cuts, bruises, and blood that covered her otherwise blue skin. "Been through hell, haven't you? Why'd you shoot at these Gamorreans? Not that I can blame you if you're from the Galactic Alliance..."

"One of them... held up his club..." Airi explained. "Thought he'd... kill me..."

Shrugging, Veriss responded, "She's got a point, boys. You don't go raising your weapons at just anyone."

"She had a-"

"Whatever!" Veriss ignored them. "Go back to your homes or whatever it is you live in, this is official Horde business now, and guess who put me in charge here?"

Grumbling to themselves, the Gamorreans sulked back to where they had come from, leaving Veriss to order one of her guards standing by to escort the Twi'lek to the nearest medical facility. The moment she heard pilot was when she knew that this could have been a valuable prospective renegade, though she wondered why exactly it was a crash landing.

"New indeed," the Wookiee said through his translation device. "I've never visited your planet before, due to the allegiances of the previous ruler, but I hear that you're a woman I can do business with." He stopped short of where [member="Leo"] stood, raising a furred fist to his chest as he bowed in respect. Though to be honest he wasn't quite sure what the proper greeting would be for her people, a bow was typical across the galaxy. "I am Errreembuhr, but you may call me Ember if you'd like."

"People are telling you that I'm a woman," Leo said with a chuckle. "If that suits you, then so be it!" She raised a hand to shake Ember's, knowing that she could withstand a Wookiee's grip. Even if the Wookiee didn't want to grip her hand back, she would make sure that their hands interlocked, not to be relegated to a soft human's treatment. Some were convinced that she was part Wookiee herself, or part Dravala or even part Rancor, but she knew the only blood that ever mattered for her was the Kiffar blood that flowed through both her mother and father.

"Business with the Horde is the best business there is! We take care of our traders, our builders, our innovators. So long as you're trading, building, and innovating against the Sith..."

Her eyes narrowed as she awaited the response, trying to get the most honest read she could on the mechanical man.

Anither day, another group willing to do the right thing. This one, in particular, seemed more willing than most. From what he could gather, they would go the extra mile and do what most people would never consider: killing whoever stood in the way of bringing down the bad guys, civilian or not. That was bold. Zek liked bold. He also liked getting SPECTRE involved in things outside of the Republic.

They were quite the secret organization. Outside of two people in the Republic, the only people to know that the group existedwere people involved with it. Best way to keep an organization secret was to make sure nobody knew about it. The more groups they infiltrated, the more intel they gathered and the more they could bring the fight to the enemies of peace in the galaxy. Zek just favored fighting Sith more than the others.

The streets of Halama City were dark and slightly uninviting. He liked it. Reminded him of the SPECTRE base. It was kind of nice to feel at ease. He pulled his jacket sleeves down and made sure his lightsaber was tucked out of the way as he walked down one of the streets in search of thr group known as the Horde. He spotted a wookie and a few gammoreans, and chose to follow the former, ducking his horned head through an entryway.

His kind weren't exactly the most sought after presences in the galaxy. People were often afraid of them because of their tendency towards violence. The people who didn't feel such often drew his interest. He wondered if [member="Leo"] would be like that. Looking st her clasp the wookie by the arm, made him smirk. She had his admiration at least. Shaking hands with a wookie was pretty bold.

He had a good feeling about this.

Her comment about the Sith made the Wookiee grin.

"Trade, construction, innovation, destruction..." he replied to [member="Leo"] as he nodded, taking her massive hand and shaking it, surprised by her tolerance for his powerful grip. "The Sith are no friends of EODD, nor are they friends of my friends. They're responsible for the collapse of the Alderaan Coalition, for the warfare in the Core, countless attacks against those I'd call customers and friends."

He looked into her eyes, noting strength deeper than her firm muscles would imply. Strength beyond the physical. Strength drawn from the support of the crowd gathered in the square, from the warriors he'd spotted nearby and around. This was a person worthy of support.

"I came to you having heard rumors of your dedication to fighting the Sith when and wherever possible. Tell me, are they more than rumors?"

Leo could only laugh heartily at the question, answering, "There are many rumors about the Horde Boss of the Renegade Horde, yes! This is no mere rumor, my friend. The world you see before you is one of refugees, those who seek to be free of oppression and tyranny! I ended the previous rule with the very same hammer you see here." She stomped on the dense head of the hammer beneath her foot.

"That man was a grotesque bump in the road of Halamir's legacy. He was Sith, though he wouldn't mention it. So many of us were driven to the brink by that worthless man. We will do anything to end that terror from spreading any further now that the Galactic Alliance has fallen, and we're not afraid of being their terror if that's what it takes. No negotiating, no compromising. The Imperial threat ends here."

Another man, white as a ghost, approached from the side as she waved him over, getting a better look at him. "Welcome to Halamir, friend!" she shouted despite him being in distance to hear her regardless.

[member="Errreembuhr"] | [member="Zek Koth"]

"Then it seems you and I are in agreement," the Wookiee replied, satisfied with her answers. "And that you and I can do business. I'm looking to expand my operations to your system, if you'd be willing to have us. Weapons, ships, weapons for those ships. I've seen your yards in Fayli on the way down, they're in a bit of a sorry state but I can help you get them up and running at full capacity as well."

There was more he had to offer, of course, and he'd yet to tell her exactly what he wanted out of the situation. But there would come a time for that. Always first talk about what was offered, not what was wanted.

"A hearty welcome indeed," he said, as he ambled towards what his eyes assumed was a woman.

Of course there was the wookie there as well. Wookies were aboit the only species that could ever cause him to feel uneasy. Not many could match the ferocity of his species, but wookies could and they had extensive strength to back it up. He rather liked having his limbs attached to his body, so he often made a point of avoiding interactions with wookies that could lead to bad things. This didn't seem like a situation he need worry about.

Having been to The Galaxy Tree, and seen the rapid influx of refugees, it was easy to see how this wasn't a good thing. There were just far too many displaced people in the galaxy. That was why he signed up for the various rebel groups that popped up. Sure, it was part of his job,but it was morr than that. It was personal too. He hated Sith, and he wanted to do everything he could to take them down a peg.

"I hear you could use some muscle. Here to offer it."

[member="Leo"] [member="Errreembuhr"]

Looking down at the man, Leo began flexing her right arm for him to see. "Do I look like I need the muscle!?" she said with an intimidating roar, taking a step closer to see if he would flinch. Then, her lips cracked into a smile as she punched [member="Zek Koth"] in the arm playfully.

"Of course, scary-looking man! I am Leo, Horde Boss! You know that joining the Horde means pledging yourself to me, yes?" She made a sweeping gesture with one arm as she looked around at all the Halamirians around. "All of these people you see- they're under my wing, and my wings span a very long distance indeed! I protect them, I grant their wishes, and in return, I gain their belief. Their trust. That is more valuable to me than all the credits in the world, and I will fight for that until my dying breath."

She placed a colossal, firm hand on Zek's shoulder, asking, "Are you ready to be a renegade?"

Zek didn't flinch, he just raised an eyebrow. Did she think she could intimidate him with size? That was adorable. Big ones were more fun to take down. He actually got a workout then. She punched him in the arm and he looked down, wondering if it would bruise or not. He shrugged and looked back up at her with a grin on his face.

"Not bad, your strength is there but your form is lousy," he said, prepared for her to strike again.

In part it was some showmanship from him. Mostlt, though, he was trying to prove a point that it was going to take a lot more for her to have any sort of affect on him.

"I've been doing what it takes for years. Fighting the Empires if the galaxy, protecting the innocent. All that jazz. I'll fight by your side, of course. Long as you don't mind me helping out some rebel cells from time to time."

He lifted a hand to rub at a horn.

"Hard to get my fill of fighting elsewise."

[member="Leo"]

"Tough boy," she said in a patronizing, yet lighthearted tone. "You fight, you prove yourself to the Horde, and the Horde will respect you. That much is earned through merit. I look forward to seeing you prove yourself - or fall flat on your face. Either way is entertainment, eh?"

She looked back to the Wookiee, holding a hand to her chin in wonder for a moment. "You too, Wookiee," she said. "Earn your place in the Horde and start construction. You'll be watched. Pull through and you will be glad you came to Halamir! Metals and scrap as far as the eye can see! Prime real estate for your business! And oh, will there be plenty of business to be had!" Looking him up and down for a moment, she narrowed her eyes and added, "I have been Horde Boss for eleven years. I have learned to trust my good feelings, and I have a good feeling about you... Don't disappoint me, hm?"

[member="Zek Koth"] | [member="Errreembuhr"]

"You will not be disappointed, this I promise," he replied, nodding as [member="Leo"] sized him up. "I'll send word back to HQ and we'll begin construction as soon as possible. You planet's resources make it perfect for some of the products I have planned. Products which your Horde will have entirely free access to, I should say. As well as some exclusive items."

He'd heard of the baradium processing capabilities of New Nabat, and he'd seen their ruined shipyards firsthand. Errreembuhr was almost assured that this place would be a massive stepping stone to expansion. He would make it so.
