DESCRIPTION
Thanks in part to the successes of the Republic Engineering’s Space Superiority Line, the Corporation was once again contracted by the Galactic Alliance to create an enhanced X-wing for one of the Defence Force’s premiere Starfighter Squadrons. After happily accepting the contract, the Design Team assigned to the project found themselves divided on how to enhance the Starfighter’s schematics. There were several individuals that believed this new design should be more heavily armoured, much like the SS02 variant of their REC-X-wing. While others believed that the functionality of the Starfighter should be enhanced, making it diverge from the standard template and offer its pilots a broader array of systems at their command. However, the splinter group that eventually won out - was the pilots themselves, as they requested that their Starfighters would rival the most expedient of Interceptors.

While not entirely… normal for Space Superiority Fighters, who was Republic Engineering to deny the request of the Valiant Defenders of the Core? So, the Design teams brought the original X-wing schematics back to the drawing board and sought to devise a way to increase its speed, without compromising the other systems. To do this, the standardized engines were replaced with a more advanced model that was capable of increasing the Starfighter’s output, both in the vacuum of space and within an atmospheric environment. With the combination of turbofans, ionic engines, and various maneuvering thrusters, this variant of the SS01 X-wing would become a swift and nimble Strike Fighter. Essentially, the design teams turned what was considered to be the premiere Space Superiority, into a Hybridized Superiority Interceptor.

The functionality and loadout of the Strike Fighter would remain the same, with only the armoured plating of the Starfighter being micronized - which made the entirety of the spaceframe lighter, without sacrificing the Fighter’s defensive capabilities. Such a decision made several, significant modifications to the Starfighter’s overall design aesthetic, which gave the Starfighter a distinctive silhouette. However, the design teams were sure that the Pilots of the Twin Suns Squadron would appreciate that choice - as it would make them stand out from their more uniformed kindred. And thus, with the modifications to the SS01’s design, the Twin Suns variant was put forth into production and delivered - soon after the requisite order was completed - to those Valiant Defenders on the Frontier.
