Major Locations:
  • Otchayannaya nadezhda - This is the moon closest to the Gas Giant the planets orbit. It has no atmosphere, features temperatures hot enough to melt iron, and is generally only useful as a mining and prison planet. The two uses often go hand in hand and the prisoners live in small biodomes, working beneath the rock in sealed suits. Here is where the worlds gain a large amount of their raw metals and minerals, including neuranium.
  • Nadeyat'sya - The most verdant of all the moons, this planet is located in the 'sweet spot' in orbit around the Gas Giant. The planet is known for it's large amount of tourist areas, wildlife reserves, parks, gardens, farms, and iconic cities. It is also the government's seat of power for all the moons.
  • Chestolyubiye - A moon slightly closer to the Gas Giant featuring its fair share of jungles and deserts. A great amount of military production occurs on this planet and the world is known for high levels of enlistment and features multiple large military bases.
  • Opredeleniye - Another moon slightly closer to the Gas Giant. This world features mainly hot badlands and deserts with wide savannahs around the more temperate areas. Most of the planet's production is industrial and most of the imported goods are raw materials and food.
  • Mirolyubiye - This moon is located in the 'sweet spot' and is known for the raw amount of fertile land available for agriculture. Most of the world is given over to farming while the mountain ranges located here and there are used for mining.
  • Khaos - This moon's name is a bit of a misnomer. Named Khaos initially for the large amount of predator animals, an atmosphere lethal to humans, its colder environment (the moon is one of the furthest from the gas giant), and the general bad luck of the original colonists, the moon is currently used for deep mining, military bases, and vaults. Other planets often send a wide variety of seeds and plants to Khaos for stowage beneath the planet's surface in large vaults. In the event of a catastrophe, the vaults on Khaos can provide plenty of seed to the agricultural societies among the moons. Most habitation is underground or in sealed biodomes.
  • Putanitsa - Another misnomer, this moon was only recently settled after the Gulag Plague. The moon is the smallest one orbiting the Gas Giant and is also the furthest away in orbit. Used primarily as a sensor station, the planet also boasts heavy tourism due to the view of the Gas Giant as well as the massive mountain peaks evident on the planet. The atmosphere is not safe for humans or near humans, but that doesn't seem to stop tourists from coming out to see the sights. The population here is minimal and is tied to either the tourism industry or the military bases.
  • Okhranyayemyy - Known for the high amount of military bases, naval stations, and large numbers of troops, this moon is considered the iron world of the system. The moon is tasked with defending the system as a whole and, specifically, the seat of government; Nadeyat'sya. Most of the population is militarized, though most industry produces generalized goods.
  • Udivlyat'sya - This moon is a bit of a curiosity. The temperate areas of the planet are given over to agriculture entirely and produces a large amount of food to the rest of the system. However, the areas not given over to farming are heavily industrialized. It should be noted that in both cases, facilities are built underground as the atmosphere is not breathable. Factories are built deep into mountainsides and under the ground where they have easy access to the mines bringing up the raw materials needed. In fact, most dwellings are built underground, both industrial and agricultural, no matter where they are. Biodomes are rare on this world. Beings from this moon are often considered a little... odd.
  • Schast'ye - One of the two major metropolis moons, the planet is reminiscent of worlds like Coruscant, Taris, or Nar Shaddaa. A massive city covers the planet entirely, aside from the oceans and mountaintops. Most of the city is given over to industry, though large parts are used for recreation such as casinos, resorts, etc. The atmosphere is toxic and requires sealed suits, however the city itself is sealed to protect the inhabitants.
  • Sila - A planet located a little closer to the Gas Giant than it would like, the residents of this moon are mainly known for their factories, mines, and engineers. Much of the population is given over to industry and engineering, though interestingly enough, most of the production is for the military. The world is also know for its engineering colleges and schools as well as a complete lack of atmosphere.
  • Zhizn' - A dead world known only for two things: Subterranean agriculture and the wanderlust of those populating the moon. The world supplies a large amount of food to the rest of the system but often has labor shortages, leading to the main system government to send more laborers. Strangely, those who migrate from the planet harbor no ill will to the world, but simply desire to see the rest of the system and, now, the galaxy. The major export of this world outside of foodstuffs is, interestingly enough, ship's crew.
Culture:

The system's culture really varies from system to system and is touched on in the descriptions of the moons themselves, albeit briefly.

Perhaps the most unifying cultural anomoly of the worlds is the belief of unity. Despite their varied backgrounds and different economies and outlooks, the residents of the moons quickly band together to aid one another and to support their government. Despite the system being ruled by a socialist state, the societies there tend to believe such a government is necessary, if not required, for their people. Why this is the case, none truly know, but many often point back to the original colonization of the system when strong, unified leadership was the only way to survive.

Regardless, other traits do exist. Common trends are simple, if a bit varied. Most of the inhabitants of the worlds are friendly and welcoming to outsiders, though visitors are warned that they will be watched closely. Neznakomtsyans aren't normally suspicious, but do prefer to keep tabs on those they do not know as well, though this seems to be a passive outlook and few actively watch others. Neznakomtsyans also hold laws to a high regard and, for the most part, advocate for harsh punishments for lawbreakers. Another trait seems to be a preference for basic, practical clothing and attire. Even the most affluent of Neznakomtsyans tend to wear what most of the galaxy's rich consider more suited to the middle class or common laborers. Neznakomtsyans also tend not to carry weapons openly, relying on their rather substantial and, admittedly, well armed police to keep them very safe.

Lastly, despite the establishment of prisons on one of the moons and a relatively high number of prisoners there, crime throughout the system is much lower than the average throughout the galaxy.

Technology: Standard
History:

Little is known about the initial colonization outside of stories passed by word of mouth that were later put to paper. The general themes were that settling the worlds was difficult and frought with danger, death, and hardships. In order to survive, the colonists banded together under a single banner, giving absolute to the group that led them. General plots from various sources place this occurrance many thousands of years ago.

In time, the situation stablized and societies formed, still following the same group, now a political party, that had led them before. Time went on and the other moons were settled and established with populations of their own. By the time of the clone wars, two things had happened. First, the worlds had been fully settled and established, each with a stable economy and population. Second, due to genetic mutations, natural adaptations, and a variety of other biological processes, the beings inhabiting the system deviated genetically from humans and became near-humans.

The system remained undiscovered before the Gulag Plague and, when the Gulag Plague struck, were untouched. Life went on with minimal occurrances outside a minor uproar or riot every other decade or so until it was rediscovered when the Gulag Plague lifted. The discovering parties were raiders and slavers who found the worlds and deemed them easy pickings.

As the Neznakomtsyan fleet salvaged the wrecks of the raiding ships, hyperspace data back to the galaxy as a whole was discovered. Using the wreckage to reverse engineer the technology found, they developed their own hyperspace engines, hyperdrives, and commlinks. Armed with new technology, the Neznakomtsyans have managed to burst out of their system and, after a few trial and error runs with the new hyperdrives, rediscovered the galaxy for the first time since the colony was settled.

I'm only seeing one issue. The neuraniam. This is a restricted item here at SWRP.

Neuraniam (( Objective : Complete an entire role-play from the first person perspective in which you only use the first pronoun ( “I” or “me” or “my” ) only six times. ))

So you'll either need to perform an excellent RP based around the moon using your first person perspective or remove it from your list of mining materials.

I selected neuranium because it gives flavor to the planet system, but it can't be mined to achieve it ooc. It requires a separate achievement and, much like Asahi (another planet submitted that was approved without a Dev thread that holds Songsteel, another restricted material that cannot be mined), grants no other benefit outside of fluff and background story. Unless the restricted material in question has its objectives changed, all the neuranium does is become fluff and, possibly, a planet to list when one achieves the objective and wants to list where the material came from.

A past submission is not a guide to judge others by. Rules and staff change over time.

I have spoken to my boss (the Codex Admin) and a planet with a restricted material requires 100 posts with five(5+) or more writers. You may do the development thread based on the rare mineral in question or you can remove it from your moon and I shall happily stick this up for Pending. The dev thread would not have to be in the first person perspective since it is not you mining it, this is merely a thread for the planet.

I understand the rules of previous submissions not being used as a guide for current submissions, however, previous submissions do create the foundations upon which the current factory, codex or tech, is based upon. At least, that was how it was explained to me during my time as an FJ by my boss(es) at the time.

My intention to include the restricted material was for fluff only. Neuranium, per your quote of the metal's objectives, cannot be mined and, therefore, more than likely should not have any dev thread attached to it for such purposes. Stygium, beskar, phrik... sure, those would need one as they are achieved by objectives as well as straight mining. With substances like neuranium, songsteel, ultrachrome, etc... I fail to see any reasoning for a dev thread. So long as the objectives remain the same for them, one could place those substances on every planet in the galaxy... and no one could mine it to get it.

Anyways, I've said my piece on that bit of business. I've removed Neuranium from the lists and replaced it with, what I believe to be, a small list of metals and ores that can be exported for a roughly equivalent amount of fluff income compared to neuranium.

EDIT: Also, kind of just realized I sounded a bit pompous. My apologies. I'm fighting a cold and am on all sorts of cold meds so I'm not really... with it at the moment.

I have no authority to change the dev thread system set forth by the Codex Admin. If you feel the system is unfair then I would encourage you to post your concerns to the Codex Discussion.

Either way, since you removed the restricted material, Pending Secondary.

We are currently reviewing the restricted materials rules.

This would be a good exercise to try out an idea of mine. So here are your options:
  • No dev thread: neuranium in quantities sufficient for unique production submissions (provided the other challenge is completed).
  • 25 post dev thread: neuranium in quantities sufficient for limited production submissions (provided the other challenge is completed)
  • 50 post dev thread: neuranium in quantities sufficient for minor production submissions (provided the other challenge is completed)

I must also say that I find it astonishingly unlikely that 11 habitable moons would be ranged around a gas giant. Granted, our real world perspective may be limited, but from our solar system, planets of a large enough size are limited to 4 for Jupiter, perhaps 3 for Saturn and 2 for Uranus and Neptune. Surveys of exo-solar planets have found similar results around other stars.

Thus, I will have to insist that the number comes down from 11 inhabited worlds. Since this is Star Wars and your idea is pretty cool, I will accept 4 as a maximum. Though this is stretching credulity I am curious as to what you will do with this so I won't want to stomp on it entirely.

I'll go ahead and leave the neuranium out of the submission. I really intended it to be an easter egg of sorts, much like Asahi. I was more "wtf"ing over the principle of the matter.

As for why, I felt that the number both made it unique and gave a wide variety of backgrounds to choose from. Near humans aren't always found on multiple worlds considered a home planet. Immigrated, sure, but as a whole you don't get a species that calls a decent amount of worlds home. The concept is a diverse culture that RPers can build on. One world is known for underground habitations and seen as odd by the other members of the same species. Another planet's population is know for ambition while another is known for a sort of random wanderlust.

It gives writers an array of options when making a character of the species inhabiting the star system. That way, they're all united by the same principles, but vary in personality, methodology, and slight variations in culture to keep things interesting.

Lastly, it explains why the system survived the entire time. Between the mining, industrial, agricultural, and administrative planets it shows that they had the food, the raw materials, and the tools at their disposal to survive the entire time in that system alone.

I can drop the list of habitable planets down to four if you really want me to, but I would most likely edit the other planets that are not naturally habitable to include sealed environments and habitats to still contain life and maintain the same diversity I was aiming for to start with. Leaving it as is is just... Simpler in my opinion, I guess :p

You may have the other moons settled within bio domes or other means.

However, I'm still going to insist that this not be on all of them. I want them to have come from one of the moons and spread to some of the others, and then settled some of the otherwise uninhabitable worlds.

And noted about the material.

[member="Valiens Nantaris"]
Eh, I'm a little iffy on the 'not all of them' bit. I can pull the majority of the population from some of the more outlying ones, but all would have some form of habitation on them, even if only for military bases, sensor stations, or tourist areas.

As for coming from one moon and moving to the others, I thought I'd already included that. I don't think I listed which moon, though. That said, arguably, I didn't think to include that as they may or may not have forgotten which. I'll tinker with it a bit and the like.

[member="Valiens Nantaris"]
Actually, thought occurred to me. Would a Dev thread work to explain those planets? I figure if the Maw was assembled by an ancient, all powerful race, maybe they got bored and wanted to see what would happen if they loaded up a gas giant with moons? I can even include some anomalies from the gas giant to reflect a slightly more unstable state. Render two or three planets like the original dead world?

[member="Yekaterina Zolnerowich"]
That can work. After all, Corellia and other systems were engineered.

That would form a good explanation. Just so long as whatever tech was used to do it no longer exists I have no problem with it.

[member="Valiens Nantaris"]
Nah, I'm thinking maybe some scraps of architecture or something along those lines. Most you'd probably find of their technology would be an electric toothbrush or something. Any length ballparks you wanna see?
