Name: Rapax
Designation: Sentient
Homeworld: Dromund Kaas
Language: Galactic Basic
Average height of adults: Two meters.
Skin color: Pale White, Tan, Dark Skinned.
Hair color: Red, Blonde, Brown, Black, Blue, Purple, Pink, White.
Breathes: Type One
Strengths:
- Enhanced Senses- Rapax have evolved to have impeccable senses of smell, sight, and hearing.
- Physical Strength- Compared to humanoids, the muscles in Rapax's legs and arms are much stronger.
- Blending In- One of the Rapax's greatest strengths is their ability to blend in with the cultures of their prey.
- Rapax's bodies absorb nutrients very slowly, meaning one feeding can last for months.
- Regeneration- As long as a Rapax has a steady source of food, their bodies heal fairly quickly. Small cuts heal in seconds, and grave wounds in days.
- Arrogance- The vast majority of Rapax believe themselves to be vastly superior to the rest of the galaxy, leading them to underestimate other species.
- Because of an enzyme in their bodies, Rapax depend entirely on humanoid species and each other for food. Other sources of food hold no nutrients for them, and is physically revolting to them.
- Low Stamina- Used to being the apex predator, Rapax have become used to being able to end fights quickly. If caught in an extended battle, they are at a disadvantage.
- Rapax have an organ located in their back called a 'telum'.When not in use, the telum is coiled in their back, much like the small intestine. On command, the telum will shoot out of the Rapax's back, and can be brought back in on command. Due to their regenerative abilities, these back wounds heal rather quickly. When brought out, the telum becomes their main weapon; Rapax depend entirely on their telum to win battles. These telum are unique to each Rapax, but four groups are formed. (See Races.)
- The Rapax have distinctive eyes: their pupils are red, surrounded by a black shlera and red veins across the eye and the skin surrounding it.
- Although appearing human, Rapax's bodies contain a special enzyme that when entered into a scanner, makes it far easier to identify them.
Races: Races within the Rapax depend entirely upon the type of telum, and form four groups:
- Pluma-
These Rapax have telum that extend from the shoulder like feathers, and are released as projectiles, though it can be used in melee combat as a blade or shield. Pluma depend on speed and agility, as they have lower stamina than other Rapax.
- Lamina-
Lamina's telum are released under the shoulder blade, in the form of armor or a shield, though it can also be used as a spear, blade, or hammer. They are the heaviest of the telum, and the hardest to wield, and best suited for defense. They are extremely slow, but powerful.
- Lacertus-
Lacertus's telum are released from the back around the waist, in the form of scaled tentacles. Their structure gives them superior striking power, excelling in brute strength. Lacertus can combine their tentacles into one more powerful appendage; however, if their telum are cut off, a lacertus would find themselves defenseless until they grow back.
- Cauda-
The last of the telum, Cauda are released through the tail-bone in the form of a long bladed tail. The most balanced of the telum, cauda have no special strengths or weaknesses, and are a sort of 'trump card'; though they specialize in medium range.
Diet: Rapax depend entirely on the meat of humanoid species and each other for food; anything else makes them sick, and they must throw it up or risk becoming very sick.
Communication: Speech, Body Language.
Culture: The Rapax are very territorial creatures, and while it is not uncommon to gather in small groups, hunting grounds are fought over viciously. What little culture they do have is dependent on one rule: Only the strong survive. If a Rapax is suspected of being weak, any other has the right to challenge them to a duel to the death. The winner inherits all of the loser's hunting grounds, influence, etc.
While their telum divide the Rapax into four different types, it does not affect their social standing. A Rapax is judged by individual merit, not by their telum.
Among Rapax, parental guidance is essentially making sure their child is strong. At the age of thirteen, parents will attempt to kill their young. If they survive, then they are considered a full-fledged adult. If they die, then they are eaten by the parent for they were weak.
Technology level: Spacefaring.
General behavior: A varied species, Rapax spend their days doing two things: eating, and fighting over who gets to eat what. There are very rarely any Rapax scholars or scientists, but a surplus of hunters. Most Rapax stay on the outside of galactic society, only interacting with it to feed; although some have been known to actually live among their prey, and ascend to positions of power.
Rapax attitudes toward non-Rapax usually fall into three camps: Those that want to co-exist with them, those that view them only as food, and those that are actively hostile towards them.
Due to the amount of fear they tend to generate, Rapax have come to hide their existence as much as possible.
History: Throughout their bloody history, the Rapax have always been apex predators. While they existed before, their evolution did not truly start until Sith colonists settled the planet in 4,980 BBY. With the arrival of Vitiate's Sith Empire, the Rapax bitterly resisted their colonization of the planet. The predators and the Sith engaged in open warfare, with heavy causalities on both sides. Over the centuries of combat, the Rapax evolved to better hunt their prey; namely by mimicing their appearance and language. However, this evolution made them completely dependent on humanoids as food. When the Rapax attempted to eat other things, they found that it was revolting, and made them sick. Rapax attacks on colonies steadily increased, until a force was put together to wipe them out. While it was unsuccessful, from that point on the Rapax kept their existence a secret. However, they still needed to eat.
When colonist abandoned the planet, the Rapax were among them, spreading throughout the galaxy, claiming new hunting grounds; though Dromund Kaas still maintained a large presence. Whenever they were exposed as Rapax, however, the galaxy hunted them down; they have been considered extinct by the galaxy many times.
When the Gulag Plague wracked the galaxy, the Rapax were resistant due to their regenerative abilities, but not immune. Many died, and the survivors barely pulled themselves together in time to expand with the rest of the galaxy.
When the Mandalorians bombarded the planet with asteroids, the Rapax on the planet capitalized on the situation, once more engaging in open warfare, until they were once more driven back.
And during the Netherworld event, many Rapax disappeared along with the rest of the galaxy, creating a power-vacuum in their society that erupted in bloodshed lasting to this day.
