  • Name: Rahab
  • Pronunciation: rey-hab
  • Group classification: Bloom or Swarm
  • Designation: Non-Sentient
  • Origins: The Depths of Lowick Space, Later altered through Draelvasier Technology & Scientific Mutation by The Bryn'adûl
  • Average Lifespan: 8,000-12,000 Galactic Standard Years
  • Estimated Population: Scattered
  • Description: A large space-faring creature predominantly found in the Lowick System. The Rahab is known for its numerous large tentacles and terrifying capacity to quickly travel through space. Known as the "Space Demon'' among the Draelvasier of the Bryn'adûl, these monsters were capable of constricting large naval ships by carelessly wandering through space looking for respite. The main distinction over the years is its odd resemblance to its own opposite, but smaller counterpart; the Floating Jellyfish. Rooted from the many similarities between the two, both creatures have no brain or heart and only a nerve-net system in order to function.

As a massive creature among space the most prominent distinction comes from its physiology. The main base of the creature is in the shape of an angular bell, which from its sight can be immediately described as a flexible jelly top. With lengthy and monstrous tentacles beneath the bell, that are used for breaking apart asteroids over time; Rahab could easily be mistaken as a Kraken of the void. In light of such a guess, while close in proximity, the Rahab is not classified as such. With a towering height and significant width; the Rahab isn't easy to miss and in some respects is faster than its massive frame gives off. Unfortunate enough for their own existence, Rahabs lack two key organs that many would need in order to survive; the brain and heart. Without messages coming from any internal organs, Rahabs are known for their incredible nerve-net capabilities.

In many respects the Rahab is known for lingering around asteroid belts, mainly due to their feeding habits. Many that happen to find the Rahab not in motion, will find that their method for eating entails constriction and slow suctioning processes. This allows the Rahab to strip anything it feeds on of its natural nutrients. This main action is considered the "Resting Period" after a long journey has borne a new asteroid belt to feed on. While asteroids are the most common source of food for these large creatures, ships and other random objects in space have been dissolved or ripped asunder by these complex monsters.

  • Always in Motion: Living a life of constant movement, makes these massive tentacle gifted creatures incredibly fast. The propulsion system of their body and tentacles make this a key ingredient to their survival in space.
  • A Vicious Hunger: While the Rahab have more commonly become accustomed to breaking apart thick and massive asteroids in their Netting Process. The Rahab are also capable of constricting cruiser class ships and breaking them apart over long periods of time.
  • Evasive Maneuvers: Given the flexibility of the Rahab, its organic makeup allows these large creatures to twist and turn with ease. These motions are not restricted to North, South, East or West. The Rahabs can quickly bend and utilize their tentacles to facilitate these evasive tricks.
  • Restorative Growth: In the event the Rahab have had damage dealt to their tentacles, their body generates stored energy to rejuvenate the damage naturally over lengthy periods of time. This is only possible if the Rahab has already finished their Resting Period. This restorative process can regrow lost tentacles from dangerous travel habits that have caused more than one loss of an appendage at any length.
  • So Many Tentacles: The Rahab have strong and flexible tentacles in the hundreds. These loose limbs are equipped with tiny pockets of circular grips making it ideal for latching and constricting. The outer side of these appendages tend to have thick and hard, scale-based shells. This shell morphs into spike intensive ridges capable of cutting through space or air currents to move faster. Considering these ridges are so thick and sharp, they can also be used as defense mechanisms.
  • Enhanced Digestive Filtration System: Substances, gases, and high levels of poisonous environments prove useless against the Rahab internally. Its suction method extracts harmful additives into energy, stripping the once composed toxins of their normal properties.

  • Non-Digestive Liquids: While space provides all necessary elements for Rahab survival, many have accidentally entered planet-side atmospheres through sheer luck. Due to this, some have even wandered beyond the skies of planets, falling prey to large bodies of water or other forms of fluid substances. This contact forces a reaction throughout the nerve-net system of the creature leading to tiny pinpricks of pain. The pain comes in the form of shocks that negatively affect the nerve-net system. Eventually, this continuous barrage of system shock leads to death.
  • One Extreme to Another: Rahab traverse space most of their lives. If Rahab were ever to fall prey to atmospheric entry and live, results would be less than ideal. This event could pose a huge threat to the Rahab once elevation factors begin to play a role in their survival. With little control over where they wander, these large creatures can sometimes find themselves in deep canyons or large crevices below adequate ground level. If this situation does occur, the opposite ends of gravity become too much to handle and otherwise forces the Rahab into a liquid state. By the end of this phenomenon, nothing but a large body of pooled indescribable liquids would be left.
  • Stay In Space, Alien: Being organically created for survival in space, Rahab tend to avoid planets and their natural gravitational pull. Although rare, some can survive upon atmospheric entry, but almost 90% of these accidents result in death.

  • Size Matters: While the Rahab have speed and maneuverability, if a predator were to pursue such a large creature, keeping sight of them would be seamless. This makes them incredibly easy to spot and pursue in the event of a hunt.
  • Susceptible to Naval Weaponry: Being a creature of nerve and organic compound, many technological advancements in naval warfare pose a massive threat to these incredible creatures. The most vulnerable section of the Rahab is the Bell or Body, any turbo laser enhanced equipment could render the creature useless.
  • Vulnerable Feeding Process: Given the reliance the Rahab have during their Resting Period for food, once they’ve found a new source to feed off of they are open to attacks.. Becoming latched to the food source means that the Bell is incredibly exposed for other space-faring beast or naval ships to strike.
  • Mindless: With no brain to operate their natural affinity for exploration, they go where they please and can sometimes place them in detrimental circumstances that would otherwise have been avoided with organic thought.
  • Comms Are Dead: While sensory waves are a way to maintain communication between swarms or blooms of Rahab. There are many forms of jammers that could disrupt this communication process easily. Frequently this occurs in the form of naturally-occurring electromagnetic pulses found in interstellar environments.
  • Falling Into Limbo: With vast distances being a critical key to the way Rahab live, several Rahab fall victim to limbo. This is an exhaustive state that keeps the large creature drifting through space in a form of stasis. In slow fashion the creature withers away and dies. This is usually a product of failure to find new food sources.

  • Diet: Lithovore. As a product of their normal habitual tendencies. The Rahab is known best for eating many solids that have a potential of delivering nutrients to the core nerve-net. This method is part of the Resting Period called “Netting.” This is mainly due to the wrapping method the Rahab uses. Many who get a chance to see the Resting Period tend to think a net is being laid over the asteroid, but in truth it’s inter-connected tentacles providing the mirage. At times, although rare; during the Netting, Rahab can break the asteroids either in quarters or halves depending on the size. While it’s extremely rare, liquids deep within the asteroids or other metals can provide toxic forms of water, which also rejuvenates the Rahab’s nerve-net system. This is mainly in part due to their natural habitat being in the cosmos which is riddled with toxic gases, thus they've gained immunity to poison or complex substances internally.
  • Communication: With only nerve based methods of movement and function, Rahab communication practices rely on small sensory glands near the maw. These glands sit just beneath the bell or body. Strokes of upward motion allow these waves to reach through space. The sensory glands pick up the waves in the form of hearing and feeling, allowing them to communicate over significant distances.
  • Technology level: While most of the galaxy relies on the advancement in technology, Rahab’s have no knowledge of such an existence and therefore lack any sufficient process to understand or operate technology in its entirety.
  • Religion/Beliefs: Rahab can’t understand the concept of either religion or belief.

In the most simple of terms, Rahab are mindless explorers of space. In fact, their survival actually depends on their travel tendencies. Many Rahab seek out large clumps of asteroids or lingering objects in space big enough to replenish their energy after covering vast distances. These distances would normally leave other space-faring beasts incapable or exhausted to the brink of death. With voyages spanning great areas of coverage it’s imperative to find any source of food to supplement future exploration. While many Rahab travel alone, blooms or swarms are roughly filled with a dozen to a half-dozen Rahab migrating together. Although rare, these blooms or swarms are usually designed to protect newborn Rahabs during excursions to find new food sources.

Birth is usually done through a process called Nesting. The Nesting process is filled with many interlocking tentacles from multiple Rahab. Usually this consists of several males and one female. This Nest is meant to facilitate a massive amount of births in one long month of intimacy between many suitable males and the birthing mother. During birth, the mother carries several children inside the Bell, when ready for placement, the mother forms a home inside large asteroids for the eggs to stay warm and safe from potential threats. The amount of time for a batch of eggs to hatch results from increasing size of the eggs, once the eggs have reached a large enough size, the mother leaves the eggs unattended in hopes for healthy birth. Newborns tend to be incredibly independent and prefer loose restrictions so they too, can begin their vast journey among the stars. Some newborns are slower to adapt and otherwise form a swarm or bloom to protect them in their early stages of transportation.

Besides these main behavioral tendencies the Rahab do not sleep. The only way they conserve their energy is through the Resting Period, that comes in the form of the Netting Process. This particular fact allows them to travel vastly across the galaxy.

Within the galactic years of 855-857 ABY, a moving force known as The Bryn'adûl scoured the galaxy for its next target to expand their ruthless empire among the cosmos. In the year of 857 ABY, the Bryn advanced into Calaron Sector, preparing for a full assault on the already vulnerable planet Lowick. The raging proof that fell upon the inhabitants of the planet was a hellish reality of despair and glorified violence. With Ra'mak War Beasts and Servitors ravaging the world below, people of Lowick were broken and dismantled beyond repair. With almost more than half of the planet fully decimated, The Bryn'adûl closed in to send more troops on the ground for support. With several ships traveling through the Calaron Sector to reach Lowick in support of the attack, a stray ship came upon a creature so massive even the Bryn were unsure of their chances against it. Reporting the unusual contact, many Bryn warriors began to give it a name, “Space Demon.”

Later, the Draelvasier would come to rename the creature as Rahab, taking the meaning of Sea Monster in the language of Drael. It was fitting for the creature's tendencies to latch onto stray ships and rip them in two. These facts continued to reverberate through the Bryn ranks and left them stunned of an existence so terrifying and massive that it could pose a threat to their naval forces. Learning to maneuver around the Rahabs in the area became a game of tag throughout the bombardment of Lowick. Once the Super Construct was finished on Lowick, the Bryn began to study these massive creatures. This resulted in numerous expeditions. By observing and following these creatures, they found that the Rahab preferred belts of asteroids deep in the Calaron Sector of space. Their studies brought them to a full length conclusion about the anatomy, behavior, diet and process of the creature in its entirety. Now, many Bryn respect the creature for its subtle & carefree lifestyle. The Bryn went far enough to record many things about the Rahab with Draelvasier Technology. Storing speeds, mating periods, feeding habits and overall capabilities for future experiments that remained on the horizon. Till this day, no other forces have reported contact with these creatures. Luckily, the Bryn knew exactly where to find them when they needed to.
