Ghruna had never felt such boredom. She had a plain white ceiling and a camera pointed at her. Her fingers were still sore from punching the floor, but she hadn't broken anything.

She was a maldrani, daughter of the warlord Jhyrack; her bones were strong.

She let out an emphatic sigh.

She stood up.

She sat back down again.

She started to wonder how much of this she could take before her brain just shut down from boredom.

"This isn't really a proper cell, is it?" Aris had approached, speaking up only when he stood on the other side of the glass. Pain, or the memory of it really, flashed through his mind as he stared at the girl who so resembled her father. The red hair that had once been a source of discomfort.

The same as the hair that now drapped over his own shoulders.

"Zaiya captured you. I'm curious."

Ghruna slowly lifted her head. She frowned as she took in the young man standing there. He was particularly tall for a human, with flame red hair.

The maldrani suddenly felt very self conscious about herself and how she sat. She drew herself back to her feet sharply and smoothed out her jerkin.

"Through trickery," Ghruna said plainly. "What... Er... What are you curious about?"

"The why." He spoke just as plainly, raising a brow briefly at the discomfort. Was it the mention of Zaiya? What sort of trickery had she done to warrent that expression? He was quick to misunderstand, but he didn't mention it aloud.

"I don't know what happened, but I figured you'd tell me."

Ghruna crossed her arms rather firmly over her chest. She made a little sound of annoyance at the back of her throat.

"Why must you come and ask me?" she asked rhetrorically.

"We were going to ambush the Jedi. I was going to defeat several on personal combat."

Ghruna made sure that she slightly flexed her bare arms, displaying her strength. She didn't even notice that she dkd so.

"And then betrayal," she said without irony.

"I was trapped in a forcefield and...."

She took a breath.

"I was so annoyed by her endless talking that I threw myself at the energy shield and..."

Ghruna shrugged and looked away in embarrassment.

"To hear your side." He answered, and sure enough she answered anyway. That made sense, though. Zaiya’s skill with technology was always an asset, and he imagined her barriers only got better. Though, she threw herself at the barrier? And knocked herself out, presumably?

He did his best to stifle a laugh. Really did his best.

"To impress your father?"

"Do not laugh at me!" Ghruna snapped.

It didn't come across as angry. She was a fierce maldrani warrior, but she was also an adolescent who was trapped in a cell with a tall and rather well proportioned young man laughing at her.

The corner of her jaw twitched in tension.

Then the Jedi mentioned her father. She turned slowly and let her hands fall to her side.

"What do you know of my father?"

Suddenly that tension revealed her nerves. Eventually he would hear of her embarrassing failure.

"I'm not laughing at you, more laughing that I'd have done the same."
He shrugged, not dwelling on it. Her reaction to the mention of her father was enough for him. Aris reached up, idly rubbing his jaw.

"He throws a very mean punch from what I can remember. Pretty sure he knocked me out cold a couple times."

"Hmph," went Ghruna.

She was not entirely convinced by his explanation, but she turned back towards him.

"You have fought Jhyrack?" she asked.

Ghruna stepped closer to the edge of her cell.

"And you are alive. You must be a fierce Jedi."

She took only two more seconds to reach what was - to her - a perfectly rational next request.

"You should fight me!"

"I was more lucky than fierce." He still wasn't sure how he survived, only that he had. Jhyrack had spared him. Pity? Encouragement? Hope for a better foe? The later would make the most sense, but Aris wasn't about to assume much of the Sith. It was what she said next that had his expression change. He reached a hand up, casually opening the cell with a tap of a button on his side.

The same thought had crossed his mind. A child of the Sith he knew was bound to be strong. And by the grin that had formed, he very much agreed.

"Yeah. Why don't we fight?"

Ghruna Ghruna

Ghruna almost jumped when the cell door slid open with a soft hiss. For a moment she simply stood there facing the Jedi. Most humans she would tower over.

Her blue eyes narrowed slightly, flicking from Aris’s face down to his shoulders and back up again. He was tall for a human, and there was something annoyingly appealing about the easy confidence in the way he moved. The thought made her scowl.

She stepped out of the cell at last. Ghruna was still growing into her frame. Like most Maldrani she wouldn't reach full size until she was in her thirties. She felt awkward in places, her frame not yet fully settled into the warrior she wanted to be. But she was strong. Even when she walked into door frames.

"You really want to fight me?" she asked. Her Maldrani accent would be familiar enough if she didn't look like Jhyrack and hadn't already admitted the relationship.

She rolled her shoulders, trying to shake off the ache of being in a cramped space and the lingering frustration of capture. Failure tasted bitter.

Jhyrack would not praise a daughter who let herself be taken so easily.

A small, fierce grin tugged at her lips despite herself.

"Excellent," she answered for herself, seeing the truth in her eyes.

"Where are we going?"

Her tail gave an excited flick to one side.

"An exchange of fists is better than any exchange of words. They're much more honest." If her people were anything like his, which they seemed to be on her reactions and her father's, this was the best way to actually speak with her. And, well, he wanted to see if he'd gotten any stronger himself. Jhyrack was still a wall in his mind, looming and waiting unseen, surely one of his children was a good test of Aris's own might.

"The temple. There's a place we can fight there, without worry about damages and the like." To an extent anyway, not that Aris thought about it. The smile on his face hadn't dipped at all, the desire to fight and test himself clear as day on his otherwise emotionless expression. He turned, idly motioning for her to follow him.

"Not too long a walk. Why don't you tell me more about where you're from?"

Ghruna gave a short, rough snort at his words. An exchange of fists was honest. That much she could agree with. Words were slippery things, especially from humans who smiled too easily while their friends set traps.

She hated how appealing that calm confidence looked on him. He grinned like fighting her was a pleasant way to pass the time.

"The temple then," she said, her voice low and carrying that thick Maldrani accent. "If you think we might damage something..."

By maldrani standards, it was a gentle attempt at flirting that would likely sail over a human's head.

Failure still burned in her gut. Jhyrack would expect better from his blood. She had come here to prove herself worthy of the name, not to be dragged in by tricks and forcefields. This fight was her chance to show she was no awkward adolescent still growing into her strength. She was Maldrani. Strength was the only law that mattered.

"I will reveal no weaknesses!" she snapped, sensing deception.

"Malthyl," she answered after a moment, glancing sideways at him. "Mountains and predators that would eat your soft Jedi bones for breakfast. My people do not waste time with polite words. We take what we want." Her blue eyes flicked over his frame again before she looked ahead, jaw tightening. "My father sent me away to learn what the old Sith left behind. I will not return empty-handed or weak."

She flexed her hands at her sides, pale knuckles cracking. Part of her wanted him to keep talking, to hear that calm voice a little longer. Another, louder part wanted to slam him into the nearest wall and see if he could still smile afterwards. The contradiction only made her temper sharper.

"Is this a trick?" she asked bluntly.

"If you're anything like you're father, a lot will be broken." Blunt facts, at least in Aris's mind. Whatever flirting there might have been went well over his head, if only because he had no interest in others in such a way. It wasn't too long a walk to the training rooms, though there were some eyes on them. She was a prisoner, after all. It likely helped that Aris was a Knight escorting her around that kept them silent for the moment, but they would be watched.

"I'll have to visit some time. See just how threatening they are in person." There was a wistfulness to his tone. Challenges were always important to him. He paused though, as they entered the room. Golden rimmed eyes stared down, watching in silence. Then he motioned back to the sparring room. "No, there's no trick. I don't think there's a point to try and talk to you about choosing a different life either, as I'm sure you've heard from others." He shrugged off the outer layer of his robe, hanging it up neatly by the door. He was all lean muscle, akin to his species. Unmarked and unmarred, however. Not a single scar to be seen.

"When you're certain of no more tricks, then we'll talk, yes?"

His comment about visiting Malthyl earned a sharp glance from her blue eyes. The wistfulness in his voice almost made her snort again. He spoke of her home like it was some interesting challenge instead of a place that would chew him up and spit out the bones.

"You would not survive," she declared boldly.

She followed him into the training room without hesitation. She felt self conscious about the eyes that turned their way; she was a prisoner.

When they stepped fully into the sparring area she paused, watching him shrug off the outer layer of his robe. Lean muscle, unmarked and unscarred. Her interest in the sight of him slightly reduced for his lack of scarring. They were considered attractive, a sign of experience to a maldrani.

She started removing the wraps from around her wrists.

"I cannot shrug off injury quite like Jhyrack. He will not show me how he does that unless I prove myself."

She realised what she had said a moment later. He might have been under the impression that all of her kind were so invulnerable. She swore under her breath. Her expression tightened.

She dropped into a ready stance, feet planted wide, fists raised. The frustration of her capture still burned hot in her gut. Jhyrack would not accept a daughter who let herself be taken so easily.

"Enough talking," she growled, a fierce grin pulling at her lips despite the scowl that lingered. "Come on then, pretty Jedi. Show me."

After everything she had been through, her frustration was very real but her confidence was skin deep.

"You can decide that after." He idly flexed a fist before his grin widened just a bit more. The thrill of a fight, the heart beat in his chest. Frustrated as Ghruna might be, he simply was ecstatic to trade blows. The moment she demanded him to show her, let herself scowl, Aris was upon her. Unnaturally quick, unnaturally strong, even if she couldn't heal as her father did he was certain she could take his blows without breaking. He counted on it.

True to his words, no trickery. He wasn't trying to be clever in his fighting, wasn't trying to trip her up. Every punch he threw was straightforward and honest. Hammering blows to temper her anger. He wouldn't give time to think, wouldn't give any inch. It was a brawl, and perhaps a way to break down whatever walls she felt she needed to put up in a place like this.

Ghruna Ghruna

Ghruna barely had time to register the widening grin before Aris was on her. He moved with unnatural speed and strength, each straightforward punch hammering into her guard like a battering ram. She met him head-on, her own fists swinging back with raw power on those rare occasions she could break guard.

The heavy thud of impact echoing through the training room. They stood eye to eye, and she refused to give ground.

Crimson braids whipped with every sharp turn of her head. The frustration of capture still burned hot inside her, but the honest violence of the fight sent a fierce thrill through her blood. He was strong. Strong enough that she felt every blow rattle her bones, and that only made her hit harder.

One slipped through her guard and caught her chip. She gave a step and spat blood. Crimson outlined her sharp teeth. She threw a few jabs to try and make some space between them.

Aris didn't evade the first punch. He took it right on the chin in turn after his connected. The bruise was almost instant, red forming over his skin. Right up until it faded away. All the bruising, cuts, blemishes, all of it faded only moments after each punch connected, and he grinned all the wider through it. Raw brawling shifted as his posture changed, stance widened. He started weaving through her blows rather than let himself get hit. All it'd take was a solid blow and he could be knocked out cold, even for a second.

That'd be far too long.

A few more traded blows and he saw a moment to catch her retaliation in an attempt to just swing her over his shoulder and right to the ground.

Ghruna snarled as her fist connected solidly with his chin, only for the bruise to bloom and then vanish almost instantly. The sight sent fresh irritation surging through her.

He healed too quickly. Her father had some way of preventing injury entirely. This was different but it made every punch feel pointless. She pressed forward anyway, throwing heavier blows, but he began to weave through them with that same annoying grin.

Before she could land another solid hit, Aris caught her arm and swung her over his shoulder. She hit the ground hard with a heavy thud, the impact jarring her bones.

For a split second she was furious at being taken down so easily.

A rough laugh escaped her as she twisted and tried to get a grapple hold on him somewhere.

Ground wrestling suited her far better than trading useless punches against his healing skin.

"We can fight like this!" she declared, trying to get her powerful legs involved in the grapple.

Frustration was what Aris had expected. It was how he felt trying to fight her father, and while he wasn't the same wall, he wanted to see just what the daughter could think of. The blink that followed as he was suddenly brought to the ground made that grin only grow that much more. If she couldn't hit him with lasting damage, then just grappling him out would work. It made sense.

Aris wasn't much of a grappler, though. He had a monstrous strength, but it mattered little if he couldn't take hold of his foe. She knew more than him, with him grasping only where she'd been as she shuffled around. A laugh ended up escaping him as he gave up on trying to just capture her and instead aimed to slam her against the ground using his body as a battering ram for it.
