R A A M - M 4

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a sensor inverter for the closed market.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Passively-active scan system
    • Spherical scan range-of-influence
  • Telemetry and targeting systems can identify a projectile's vectors and target
  • Emits electromagnetic burst that is capable of redirecting a hostile projectile back to source
  • Reinforced Chassis and Structure
    • Omvendt Ablative Inertial Damper
    • Liquid-Aenite and Ethylene Glycol Coating
STRENGTHS
  • Reverse Card: The RAAM-M4 emits an electromagnetic burst that is capable of redirecting a hostile projectile back to the source that launched it.
WEAKNESSES
  • Close Range Only: The RAAM-M4 only inverts a missile's targeting telemetry, which means that a missile fired at longer ranges will take more time to reverse to the spot
  • Dumb-fire: Dumb-fired munitions will not be effected by the RAAM-M4 due to the fact that they have no onboard active targeting system for the system to invert.
DESCRIPTION
THE RAAM-M4 Sensor Inverter is yet another piece of defensive technology designed by Roble Manufacturing to benefit and aide ships in naval warfare. The design concept of the Sensor Inverter is extremely simple: it reverts an enemy missile's trajectory back towards the launcher. When used correctly, the sensor inverter can be a powerful and deadly countermeasure.

The RAAM-M4 is a passively-active system, meaning that it is constantly scanning the surroundings for hostile projectiles. Once a missile enters the sensor's sphere of detection, the system identifies whether the projectile is hostile; hostile projectiles are identified this is done by quickly calculating the trajectory of said missile: if the missile is on trajectory for collision or near-collision, the system considers it as a hostile projectile. Once a missile is identified as hostile, the RAAM-M4 releases an electromagnetic burst capable of redirecting the hostile projectile back to the source that fired it.

At its base function the RAAM-M4 is extremely potent, however it has two significant flaws: one, that the longer range that the missile has been fired from, the more time that an enemy ship will have to evade the inverted projectile, and two, the system of course can not affect dumb-fire missiles. However, even at long ranges the RAAM-M4 is effective against large, slow-moving capital ships, and altogether it is a vital piece of technology whether used in dog-fights or capital engagements.
